LazyPhil
Yeah i dont view AI as a political album either like some make it out to be other than a couple of songs its about jos jimmy whatshername imo It's about both, you can't deny that Holiday is a political song for example "Zieg hail to the president gasman bombs away is your punishment, pulverize the eiffel towers who criticize your government". It's a song about JoS's adventure in the city and about the political situation after 9/11. And American Idiot is political too there's no denying. But I think I kinda get what you're saying

Four.
American Idiot is not political it's about a guy who's lost.
jacknovella
American Idiot is not political it's about a guy who's lost. It's not political as a whole, but it does have political undertones and one of the reasons the guy's lost is because of dissolution with the political state and war in 21st Century America. joeysturkeyhead
Speaking of Take Back, Billie should scream/growl more often. A whole record of screamers (maybe going completely hardcore for the first time ever) would be fascinating. I like that song but Green Day doing an album full of growling... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DannyDirnt
I think Don't Wanna Fall In Love would be a very good live song.
joeysturkeyhead
That's the whole point. I want to see him shit himself when he hears The Magnificent Seven for the first time There's a lot of people giving The Clash shit for not sounding punk enough, I don't think he could take it... On that matter. Why can't people listen to the music they like instead of hating it because it's not punk even though you like it? I listen to a lot of punk bands like The Clash, Rancid, Ramones, Green Day. Will you all kill me? I think Green Day has a lot of punk songs, they're just a bit more mixed and don't stick to one certain genre which is awesome. Please don't argue with me because I think Green Day is punk. I don't even care if they are or not, they're both punk, pop, rock, pop punk. imo

Kerplunk!!!
Dunno if unpopular or not as i don't think i've ever seen it mentioned on here but F.O.D is a great song that could of been so much better with a little extra care put into it. The first half sounds like it was played on an acoustic guitar worth $5 from a pawn shop and the mixing is awful, i find myself having to turn the song up for the start because it's so quiet and then have to remember to turn it down so i don't get the shit scared out of me when the band kicks in, it could of been mixed alot better. Cob
Mmm...not quite sure I agree with you there. Cob pointed some 'good' political songs they've recorded and he's right. Yes, there are bands out there who were more political than Green Day from the very beginning of their careers. Yes, Green Day have only dropped three albums containing some political songs. However, Billie Joe's lyrical strength lies not in the fact that he writes about political themes in great detail or in regards to a specific left wing/anarachist etc mentality, but in that he humanises big themes: something which you rightly said he's very good at doing with issues in general. Songs like American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown, Minority, Macy's... are all very personal while still having an important message and that is what makes them unique. So basically at the end of the day I'm right? Dunno if unpopular or not as i don't think i've ever seen it mentioned on here but F.O.D is a great song that could of been so much better with a little extra care put into it. But that's the character of the song. It's supposed to kick from a shitty acoustic demo into a heavy rock song. The volume adds to that effect. And it's fantastic. I know what you mean, but when i'm listening to it i want to enjoy the song, not be thinking the whole time to remember to change volume after the second chorus, perhaps i'm being a pussy but i like to hear the intro properlly and loud enough because i prefer that half of the song and it gives my ears a good bashing on headphones if i forget to change it! Insomniac45
I think Rotting is one hell of a great fucking song. Agreed. The lyrics are just straight up depressing though. Guitar is kinda weak IMO as well. But yeah, love that song.. Also, I think that Pulling Teeth is the best song off Dookie.
Unholy Sister of Grace
Also, I think that Pulling Teeth is the best song off Dookie. Pulling Teeth is probably my favorite off of Dookie. I don't know how people generally feel about All the Time, but that is a badass song.
Cob
Pulling Teeth used to really bother me. I have no idea why. I REALLY love it now, especially because of the satirical lyrics and music. Who knew that poking fun at boy-pop would turn out so good? And All The Time is super sick. Tre's drumming is ridiculous on that tune.
