Cob
I don't like how Mike dumbed down his playing since the 2000s. Listen to what he plays on Dookie, Kerplunk and especially Insomniac. It's fucking amazing! It's probably the most complex and melodic bass I've heard in any pop punk band, most bass players just play a simplified version of what the guitar plays, but Mike plays his own melody in those albums. But his bass lines still perfectly harmonize with Billie's guitar. I understand that he had to dumb down his bass for American Idiot and 21stCB because those were rock operas. But I hoped he would go nuts again for the trilogy... We did get some badass bass lines (Dirty Rotten Bastards, Makeout Party, Missing You) but those were solos and not the kind of bass playing I wanted from Mike (melodic bass lines that harmonize with the guitar). But it's still better than what we got from AI and 21stCB I guess. I just really hope Mike really dumbs down his playing for the "sake of the music", not because he lost his skills or something. o_O I don't even think that could happen. But he was so talented in his 20s, you would expect he would be even more amazing in his 40s. Based on his work on the Trilogy, he scaled back his playing for the music. I actually think he's a better bass player now, because a good bass player knows when the right time for a good fill is.
InvaderPhantom
Maybe it's also because we have two guitars in Green Day now. Back then it was only one guitar so Mike played as melodic and much as possible to make the sound richer. But now that we have two guitars that isn't necessary anymore, unfortunately. I guess it would sound like a mess if Mike went all out when we already have two melodic guitars.

Well, when the band started incorporating new sounds and dynamics into the music, while also going for a wider guitar sound, it stopped being necessary for Mike to fill in the melody with his fills and lines. Him and Tre are still one of the best rhythm sections in rock though, regardless if he's playing "Stuart and the Ave." or not.
Bam-Itz-GreenDay
I love Nightlife. I love Billie's voice in it and it's different. Having songs all the same on the trilogy would get boring. Nightlife is almost the 'plot twist' in the middle of the trilogy. Plus, I have 'Lady Cobra's' part memorized I love 21st Century Breakdown. I think Last Night On Earth and Restless Heart Syndrome are great songs. I don't know why, but I just love them. Call me a 'fangirl' for it but I honestly don't care.. I love Warning. Castaway, Waiting, Macy's Day Parade, and Blood, Sex, and Booze are fantastic songs. I love their beat and they make me smile. I think the trilogy is brilliant. Each album has a whole different feel to it, just like Billie said it would. Each one is for a different mood and that is one of the things I love about it. I'll probably come up with more later. Perfect lyrics, and during the part where the music stops, Billie sings "Know your enemy..." and the guitars crash in, I get goosebumps every time. So underrated. Castaway is also so underrated! One of my favorites from Warning and it should have been a single... And they should play it live way more often, it would be so much fun live. I think they only played it during the Warning tour. armatage
I actually like Oh Love. Surely, it is hard to compare Oh Love, and let's say, Basket Case. Still, I think Oh Love is something a bit different, yet good in the band's catalog.

Still, I think Oh Love is something a bit different, yet good in the band's catalog. That's actually a really good point! Oh love is, without meaning to be, quite the oddball in this bands catalog if you are familiar with it. Sure, to a stranger or not an obsessed fan it could just be another Green Day song, but it really is unique. It's hard to say what's different about it though, if you know what I mean. Andrew
I agree about Warning, I think it's a great album. I can understand why some fans don't like it but I actually like every song on the album, and Misery is a masterpiece.

Like, it somehow goes along with Uno, yet it doesn't disappear in the crowd of other songs.
J&TheNight
Yeah, dude. Like, it somehow goes along with Uno, yet it doesn't disappear in the crowd of other songs. Exactly! Something about it makes me either love it or hate it, really depending on the moment for sure. IT's my most conflicted Green Day track I think. I can't make my mind up at all. I'm not sure what that instrument is on Misery but it's awesome and I could listen to all day.
YoYoFantaFanta
Warning is only slightly more distorted than Uno, Dos, and Tre. I find that American Idiot seemed to be the most distorted album. I like Uno very slightly more than Dos, but Tre was extremely similar to Uno. I think Baby Eyes would be much better if they developed from the intro riff. It seems kind of fillerish but that intro riff is amazing. I wish Green Day had more minor key songs. The only albums with more than one or two minor key songs were 21st Century Breakdown and Dos. All of Tre was major key. I think Boulevard of Broken Dreams and American Idiot are nowhere near overrated, probably because they're my favorite songs. Know Your Enemy and Christian's Inferno are actually some of my favorites on 21st Century Breakdown. Nightlife was really cool. That bassline was awesome and so was the drumming. JAR and Favorite Son are some of Green Day's best songs and both are underrated.
Eva
JAR and Favorite Son are some of Green Day's best songs and both are underrated. Those are two of my favorite Green Day songs. I agree. Both are completely underrated. On the subject of JAR, I wish Mike would write/sing more songs. I love his style of writing and he has an incredibly good voice that should be showed off a little more.
GenesisJames
Let's not get into this here, there's an overly active thread for this XD But no, that link doesn't actually specify official or not, as BJ makes a quote of himself saying "let's bring him in, he can be the fourth member", in a manner that sounds almost hypothetical. I'm not his close friend so I can't tell you what he ACTUALLY meant, but that's what I gleaned from it. No one has labeled Jason as official yet, no one, so I prefer to look at him as the "official unofficial fourth member", coined by No Rhyme Or Reason on the actual thread. Fair enough. Ritz
The more I listen to Warning, the more I fall in love with the record. Its should have been the 'Dookie' of Green Day's career. One more thing is promotion in Asia. We have a lot of fans here but most of them long for interviews of the band by Asian sources. I'd be stoked if an Indian magazine did an interview with them. That would make GD know that India has a fanbase too. Idk who to blame for it. The indian media or the PR guy of GD The end of Homecoming is messy. My ear aches sometimes when I listen to it. Firecracker Lell
I think it's really great that they try a new kinda sound & something new in every album. It makes their music more interesting & not the same sound in every album So I think, the trilogy is amazing! They aren't afraid to take risks & try something brand new
Nemo.
I hate the song "Sex, Drugs and Violence". imo a weak song. one of the worst songs of the triology. that gimme, gimme danger - part is just horrible.
