DannyDirnt
I don't know if this opinion is unpopular but I don't remember seeing anyone say this: In my opinion, the trilogy does have few really good lyrics. It looks like its lyrics don't have as much effort put in them. BUT, the trilogy makes up for what it lacks in lyric writing with its amazing instrumental writing. It has some truly epic basslines, and the drumming is excellent. It also has some good guitar solos. However what really stood up for me was the bass in the trilogy. InvaderPhantom
I have no idea why people hate Christian's Inferno, I absolutely love everything about it. It's definitely one of my favorites from 21stCB. But maybe I'm biased because my name is Christian. But seriously, it's a great song. A fast punk rock song with loud guitars with great creative lyrics and a "wooooah-hoooo" that you can easily sing along with. What's not to love? I also love Billie's "evil" vocals that sound like he's the devil himself, and his diabolical laugh. Also the strong distortion on the guitars and on the vocals. When I first heard the song I thought it was going to be a live staple and a fan favorite, man I couldn't have been farther from the truth And they only played it live like twice... Tubbie Head
Kill the DJ is one of my favorite songs on ¡Uno!, and probably from the whole trilogy. I really like its sound, and the solo is orgasmic live I think Kill the DJ is one of those that you either love or hate. I've seen many people loving that one, and other people(like myself) who finds it one of their worst songs. Damn, I love the Broadway Cast Recording. When it first came out I wasn't sure so I put it off for a while. When I finally gave it a chance, I was blown away by the quality! Granted, none of my friends liked it either. I listen to a wide array of music to begin with so I guess that was why I liked it. *shrugs* I like quite a few musicals I really loved it too... But I already knew I would
redundant22
While the Oh Love video is undeniably sexist, I find it strange that no one cares that there were women in green leotards prancing somewhat provocatively around Billie in the Holiday video. agreed. & look at the Stray Heart video. It's such a cute idea & nothing sexist. And sure, a music video isn't always representing the band, but look at the Walking Contradiction video. It HAS to be Green Day
InvaderPhantom
Billie's live singing voice got worse over the years. I recently watched Bullet In A Bible and other concerts from the American Idiot era like Rock am Ring and Reading 2005, and I think that was the peak of his voice. It was very "clear" and pretty much perfect. His voice in the 21stCB era was still pretty good, but to be honest, in all of the live videos I have watched from the trilogy era his voice was pretty average or below-average. Listen to the Oh Love performance on American Idol or w/e, his voice is so... rough. And I'm 100% sure it's because of the cigarettes. Billie has been smoking his whole life, and it just makes your voice worse over the years. It's still good, but it's not as amazing as in the AI era. I thought his live voice would be better now because of the "Broadway training", but I think it got worse. I really hope his rehab means that he also quits cigarettes... That probably won't happen but I'm sure it would improve his voice. Oh and I also wanted to say that I love this thread! I love Green Day to death but I think it feels very refreshing to criticize them once in a while. I also enjoy reading your criticisms even if I don't agree with them. It's just very interesting what other people think
FatVince
I was a little bit disappointed by the final version of Kill the DJ. I like this song (well-written but not my cup of tea) but after the trailer, I expected something more grandiose. I instantly loved the riff in the ¡Uno! trailer. But I thought it was a intro riff and not the solo.

I used to like it quite a bit until I started watching and listening to other musicals. It's not awful but it's not the best, especially by Broadway standards. .:Whatsername:.
I don't like many of their early songs from Kerplunk or 39/Smooth. There are only a few I won't skip when they come up on my iTunes. I just don't like the sound of them for some reason. :/ I also REALLY, REALLY love Kill the DJ, and I really dislike Let Yourself Go. I remember when we first heard them it seemed like everyone hated Kill the DJ and loved Let Yourself Go, so it feels like an unpopular opinion. Let Yourself Go isn't terrible but I just love the way Kill the DJ sounds, it's a really different sound for Green Day. It's probably one of my favourite songs from the entire Trilogy. And to go with that, I barely like any of the songs on ¡DOS!, but I think ¡TRE! is an amazing album and I listen to it ALL the time.
redundant22
I always wonder how those songs would sound if they'd been new recorded. But on the other hand it would destroy something. This dirty, old sounds belongs to Green Day.

I see what you did there Also, I'm not a big fan of the 1039/Kerplunk era in huge part due to the recordings themselves. I'm more than in favor of re-recording all those songs. This whole "it belongs to old Green Day" stuff doesn't effect me at all, I don't enjoy when we make such deep statements about really simple things. Some people just take a lot of this stuff too seriously.
DannyDirnt
I'm not very fond of Rusty James Yeah, me neither. I find it overrated. The only thing I really like in the song is the 'and your heart can't even breathe when it doesn't even pound' part I always have to skip it. I'll agree it could have been heavier on some songs. I wish they had gone more the AI route with the huge sound for a few tracks. Others, like Kill The Dj, were perfect how they were. There are a lot of the things about the band that just wouldn't make for a good recording of 39/Smooth or any other old Green Day EP (or album) right now. Tre wasn't the drummer back then, Billie's changed how he sings, the band's style has completely changed, etc.

Remastered would be a fine compromise sure, but I'd prefer a recording. Live if possible would be fantastic, as that's much closer to the older style. But I PREFER how much they've changed, because they've matured. Back then Billie could barely sing and the songwriting was very amatuer. The recordings are awful, granted they had no money of course. In the end, I'd prefer these recorded again, even though I know it won't happen. A live recording would be fine, I'd be happy either way. The originals are just awful. That shitty "Yeah, we're 15 year old kids playing punk rock in Larry Livermore's bedroom" sound is the essence of where Green Day came and developed from. If you take that away it's not the same music. Also, the songwriting for the EPs and Kerplunk wouldn't get any better if they re-recorded it. As much as they've changed over the years, I don't think Billie or Mike would want to change those songs very much because they were the first ones the two of them had ever written. Ashleycase
I don't like saying that but I think I got bored of the trilogy... Lately when I wanted to listen to Green Day I listened to all the albums except Uno Dos or Tré. I barely remember some songs on Uno... So I don't know, I really never was disappointed when I heard the songs on the trilogy but usually I don't get bored of new albums that fast...Even though I really love Tre and Dos (Uno less). Maybe if I listen again to these songs they will grow up in me again?

I wouldn't really want them to change the songs too much either, but those are really amatuer songs. I guarentee I'm not the only one who would enjoy a new edition.
