Unpopular Green Day Opinions

John's drumming on everything is better than Tré's.

I believe that John's drumming would have been really good for Green Day until Nimrod hit. John focused on his chops and building speed up which is why he did so well with early Green Day music since the band was still heavily influenced by punk. I don't think John's chop-intensive style would have worked well after Nimrod though because that's when the band really started to slow down the songs. Not all of them, of course, but it is when Green Day morphed into a pop-rock band that fast drum set chops wouldn't have meshed well with.

I've always wished that 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours had had a better sound quality. I understand that it was in the early days of Lookout but I think a good audio recording of John's work on older Sweet Children/Green Day songs would be really awesome to hear.

The last two minutes of Homecoming ruin the song.

Warning is an incredible album, only bad bit on that album is the verses in Church On Sunday.

Geek Stink Breath was a terrible choice for first single.

The trilogy only has about 3 good songs on each album.

East Jesus Nowhere is one of Green Day's best songs, this song needed to have a proper third chorus.

Carpe Diem, Let Yourself Go, Makeout Party are shit.

Going To Pasalacqua and a few other songs from Kerplunk and 39 Smooth should be re-recorded, with a Nimrod-American Idiot sound, not a trilogy one.

The trilogy would have been better if it had better vocals, and a bit of distortion in the guitar.

Green Day's punk music has always been pop-punk. There are like no punk songs on Kerplunk or 39 Smooth and I consider Green Day to be just a rock band

Do Da Da should have been on Insomniac or Nimrod

Dos is the best album from the trilogy.

2,000 Light Years Away is overrated

Had Ciggarettes and Valentines been in the trilogy, it would have been one of my favorite trilogy songs, maybe even my favorite

Ive seen people say Tre is so much of a better drummer than John was and he probally is but listening to the 1039 songs (yes tman i know its 39 smooth and 2 eps but for sakes of this post it's 1039) when performed with Tre there's no difference to the songs he doesnt add nor take away any where as when Dave Ghrohl replaced Chad Channing you noticed a BIG difference

I prefer Tre in Green Day over John tho so I'm happy John left

I actually think that Mike's singing on "Sex, Drugs and Violence" really sucks. There is nothing to it, no purpose whatsoever. Just always gets me shaking my head, like what the fuck is this.

Totally agree. :ninja:

there are a million differences between john and tres drumming for 39 tres made it more full and filled in the spots john was pretty fast but he messed up a ton.. well live that is.. and even so he was pretty sloppy during the recording but i totally agree about the dave and chad thing for sure!

I don't know why so many people dislike Ashley from ¡DOS!

Many people wanted songs like Insomniac/Nimrod era, and Ashley sounds so Insomniac but more rock n' roll in a certain way.

I hear no difference in the drums for going to pasalaqua or paper lanterns sorry just my opinion

I will say i dont believe John could do Longview even half way decent

In my post I wasnt trying to take away from Tre's drumming skills by any means he is a very talented drummer but to me when they do 1039's material i dont hear any upgrades to them

to add to my other post

I like Nightlife and Kill the DJ

DOS is my third favorite Green Day album of all time

Last of the American girls is a great music video

I think people just bandwagoned with the whole "Know your Enemy Sucks" , when it's actually a good song

Another unpopular

But video wise AAF over BIAB simply cause AAF was more complete and didnt have interviews cut in after the songs fucking up the flow

Rest is a terrible song. And I'm not much of a fan of "Good Riddance", "21 Guns", or "When I Came Around"

Kerplunk is my least favorite album.

I'm very disappointed in the trilogy.

My two most favorite Green Day songs were written by Mike: HaHa You're Dead and JAR. I wish he would write more songs.

I really don't care for Uno, I think most of the songs are just ok. Misery is a great Green Day song and I wish they would pull that one out at least once. The worst songs: Take Back and Nightlife.

I still love them more than anything, though

My unpopular opinion-

I really have nothing to complain about anything Green Day related. I love it all.

Dude, they're all 40+ now, between the break of these three albums and a new album is gonna be at least 5 years (my prediction anyways). They'll all be nearing 50, they won't be able to take the strain of touring anymore too.

I just can't imagine them be nearing 50 and creating the kind of music they produce now, that's all.

The Offspring is almost 50 and they still make albums and tour.

I also don't like "Wake Me Up When September Ends" or "Boulevard of Broken Dreams."

Uno! is my favorite from the trilogy. And Tre my least favorite.

Ohh here we go.

1) Take Back is one of the best songs on Nimrod. Love that simple, powerful riff & the raw guitar tone. I don't know why Platypus is seen as the "angry" Green Day song, I mean, the music actually sounds upbeat in places. It's like, a fun song to take the piss out of all the really outrageous thoughts you concoct when you're annoyed, while Take Back is the real shit. It IS anger, not poking fun at it.

holy crap. someone else that loves take back! :runaround:

American Idiot is the greatest track the band has ever recorded.

Little Boy named Train is one of the best trilogy songs.

I always seem to love which people in general dont appreciate.

KYE, I love the song. I love playing it too.

Nightlife, KTDJ are some of my favorites from the Trilogy.

Nimrod and Insomniac is the best! Dookie is great but I find myself listening to Nimrod and Insomniac more than Dookie or AI.

Take back is so freaking good, I love to listen to it when I am full of rage and stuff.

I have worn out BOBD and 21 Guns. I rarely listen to them and skip them while jamming. Those were my first songs on bass, so yeah.

Oh, another one. I don't really like When I Come Around. I even turn the station when it comes on the radio sometimes.

THIS. And the song choice was way better on Awesome As Fuck.

I'll take BIAB over AAF (I personally like the interviews)

I love both Extraordinary Girl and She's a Rebel

And Last of the American Girls is another least fave song of mine.

:o

I love that song so much! It just made it even better when I found out what it was about.

Also, underrated Green Day songs:

The Grouch

All The Time

Castaway

Armatage Shanks

Overrated Green Day songs:

21 Guns

Know Your Enemy

Oh Love

Christie Road

How is KYE overrated? The majority of the fan base seems to hate it :P

Edit: for some reason the quote fucked up. I didn't edit Christie road to be huge and in the quote code it still says size 8
