Unpopular Green Day Opinions

I love every single song on the trilogy. It wasn't always this way. Just kinda happened!

Hehe yeah me too, i love every song, even Nightlife

Sure The Forgotten is supposed to be this beautiful ballad. But what the heck is it really about?? "Where in the world is my forgotten?" <-----??? That's one of the reasons it isn't good, to me. The lyrics aren't their best

It's "Where in the world's the forgotten?" :P

There isn't much wrong lyrically with The Forgotten. It just doesn't fit with the rest of the trilogy. I think if it had been a simple acoustic number, it might have worked a lot better.

Speaking of Trilogy songs. Sweet 16 is really growing on me. I can't get that solo/bridge out of my head.

i

speaking of worst songs on the trilogy...walk away is pretty much tied with the forgotten for worst at this point. i just think it's so boring. ashley has grown on me slightly though

Lyrically, Walk Away isn't the best. But I kind of like it in a weird kind of way. Ashley is one of my favourites, I love the lyrics to that song. Probably because it reminds me of an ex of the same name :P

ooh i love sweet 16  it's just a lovely song, that's really the only way to describe it. it's one of my favorites along with fell for you.

It's a great love song. I don't care that it's sentimental, you can tell it comes from a deep place. Fell For You is a great little upbeat number too. 'I first at thought that I pissed the bed' is a legendary line

Don’t look away from the arms of a moment

Don’t look away from the arms of tomorrow

Don’t look away from the arms of a moment

Don’t look away from the arms of love

That's not the only example, they are just cheesy, no?

Now that I think about it, it is pretty damn cheesy. It's been a while since I've properly listened to it.

Here's a few thoughts:

Missing You live is great.

The worst Trilogy songs to me come from Dos: Makeout Party, Nightlife, Lady Cobra, and Fuck Time are all unappealing for Green Day.

Kill The D.J. Is weak too

I like Sex, Drugs and Violence and Walk Away has grown on me but it's nothing above average.

The Forgotten's lyrics are too vauge and not personal enough for me, plus it's long. I liked it at first but it's un-grown on me.

Same with Amy, i hate the bridge of "amy please don't gooooooo" its just weak when the song starts powerful.

If Oh Love wasn't a single for Uno than A lot more people would like it in my opinion.

i agree with all you said. i really like the trilogy but the only weak points i see in it, you just wrote them!

I don't get why everyone hates Walk Away. I really like that song, and the harmonies when they go "HEEEEEEYYYYYYY WALK AWAY" during the solo gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it.

I will say what I have been telling my friends lately so get ready for anger I guess:

1: I honestly DO NOT CARE what people think, every song on the trilogy is memorable and powerful, making them my favorite Green Day songs in the bands discography

2: Loss Of Control is my favorite Green Day song, as well as being my personal favorite from the trilogy, along with Kill The DJ, Nuclear Family, Nightlife (yes Nightlife I typed that because I fucking LOVE that song), Wow! That's Loud, A Little Boy Named Train, Dirty Rotten Bastards, Makeout Party, and Lazy Bones

3: As much as I love American Idiot, I think it is much too overrated (I still love it though)

4: Dookie is overrated as well, but it's fucking GREAT (I love Having A Blast :) )

5: I see ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE between "old Green Day" and "new Green Day" ok? They're still the same people, making grandiose songs, all of which should be equally appreciated if you call yourself a "fan" of Green Day. Does anyone actually know where the term "fan" comes from anyway? It comes from the word "FANATIC", and a fanatic likes everything from an artist.

6: I like all albums and songs equally, with the exception of some being more badass, but no song is "horrible"

7: I like Christians Inferno and Restless Heart Syndrome A LOT because CI is just badass and RHS I can relate to

Honestly, I don't like pre-Dookie Green Day for behaving like assholes just to prove that they're true "punks". I think they were provoked by Tim Yohannon (he always disliked Green Day, claiming their sound was too pop) Since I discovered this story, I'm started to hate punk music and whole subculture more. :angry And started to like Platypus more. (Everyone here will hate me)

She's A Rebel is a catchy song, love it. I don't understand why it's so underrated. The Forgotten just a filler track on Tre, I think. Good Riddance, BOBD, Macy's Day Parade are far superior to The Forgotten. I dunno why I can't properly listen to it, I always skip this track. I don't like people who call the trilogy "pop rock garbage". They are barely listened to The Forgotten and Kill The DJ (I like this song, tho) maybe. These aren't really unpopular opinions.

I honestly really love Dry Ice.

I don't really understand what so many people have against it. I mean, yeah, it's a pretty sappy love song and all, but you can tell it's really heartfelt and the emotion in Billie's voice is stunning.

The guitar solo is also totally badass.

I ignore the lyrics. & the solo completely redeems the song.

This might not apply if you hate it :P, but it's surprisingly good live. It's just an average song on the Trilogy for me and I was expecting it to be one of the duller and not so memorable songs on the setlist when I went to see them, but it's really good for a swaying singalong . Something about the rhythm of it makes it really enjoyable when you're in the crowd.

.

Actually, I've seen a lot of live versions on YouTube etc. and I will admit I was tapping my feet along the whole time; but that's because Green Day are such an awesome live band they can make anything come alive.

I like some of the lyrics in Oh Love, Nuclear Family should've been the lead single though. Walk Away is decent. The Forgotten puts me to freaking sleep. But A little boy named train, Nightlife, Baby Eyes, Sex Drugs and Violence, IMO are far better candidates for worst song of trilogy

I actually quite like all the ones you hate, except for Sex, Drugs and Violence. The music is boring and the lyrics are naff and unconvincing.

As for other set suggestions, I personally wouldn't open with 99 Revs (even though it's a great song, and the tour is named after it). I see it more as a closer to send the audience home buzzing. Nuclear Family would be a good way to kick things off, or perhaps Let Yourself Go. Brutal Love is a fantastic song live, but I don't know if it should be closing the show. Maybe the first song of the encore, followed by American Idiot and then 99 Revs.

Before the 99 revolutions tour officially started and back in time when they were doing those secret shows with new songs being played, I also thought that Nuclear Family would be a great opener song, y'know with the first verses gonna ride the world like a merry-go-round seemed perfect to me.
But now I think 99 revolutions is best choice as an opener song and I personally would never put it as a closing song. Altough, Brutal love is kinda highlight of this tour to me, I do think that Good Riddance shouldn't have been replaced.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, 99 Revolutions is the weakest show opener GD have ever used. It's just a bit flat.

I personally wanted to hear more to the first verse of "Dirty Rotten Bastards" The whole song is epic, but the idea that the first verse used to be a song on it's own with a second verse, is sexy.

Also, since apparently this is now an unpopular opinion, I love "The Forgotten." SO much. One of my favorite songs off the Trilogy

Same here.

I think it would have been a great song to end the concerts with. But I love Brutal Love as well. :)

I cried hysterically every time they played "Brutal Love" when I saw them during the US tour earlier this year... I'm pretty positive "The Forgotten" would get the exact same emotional reaction out of me. I like leaving GD shows in tears, don't judge :P

AW! Agreed, I'd freak out if they'll play either Brutal love or The Forgotten at the shows I'm going to.

No judging here! I cry at GD shows as well. :ga:

see when they opened with 99Revs, it was amazing. AI is definitely one of their best opener and yeah, Nuclear Family would have been a better choice for this tour but 99Revs really did surprise me live, i love it.

American Idiot and Insomniac are two very similar albums in tone. They might be wildly different in terms of production, narrative, experimentation etc. but they seem to present very similar emotions and ideas. Although Insomniac is an introspective record, Billie Joe does also put forward subtle elements of social commentary or observations (think Walking Contradiction and Tight Wad Hill) just like on American idiot. I know that it's also present on Warning, but Warning to me has a really satisfied, old wise man feel to it; American Idiot, while smart, was almost a return to an angrier sounding Green Day. Yeah, that sounded like utter bollocks. :D

For all those complaining about Oh Love being the lead single:

Just imagine if it was Nightlife.

Doesn't seem so bad now, eh? Imagine all the fans that would have scared off.

Am i the only one who heard "She gave up on Jesus for living on penis/peanuts" insted "She gave up on Jesus for living on Venus" on "Wild One"?
