Unpopular Green Day Opinions

I completely agree! The Sweet Children EP gets a lot of hate, but I love those songs. Best Thing In Town is great.

I dong understand the level of hate. The production isn't great - so what??? That's the point. I love the rawness and aggression.

I don't like Nightlife. I can't listen to it.

And, as I read that, I'm actually listening to Nightlife.

Jesus Christ, do I have to lecture yet another fan about the awesomeness of the heyyy-ooooohhhh's,etc.? I have never heard anyone leave a Green Day concert saying "God, I wish there hadn't been so much interaction with the crowd. That Billie. What a goddam asshole, he could have fit in way more songs if he hadn't cared about engaging the crowd so much." The only people who bitch about it are people following a live-stream from home, reviewers, or hardcore, jaded fans.

The thread is about unpopular opinions, and this is my opinion. No lectures needed.

It's not about crowd interaction, it's about the specific use of the 'heyyooos'. I have no problem at all with him interacting with the crowd, but you don't need to throw in 'heyyooo's' 100 times in one set, it gets old after a while. It's fun sometimes, like during Minority and Hitchin a Ride, but throwing them in during fast paced songs that were perfectly fine as they were, is unnecessary to me. You can still interact with the crowd without doing it. They already get people on stage, fire water cannons, have fans sing their songs, getting the audience to sing whole verses of songs like BOBD and Basket Case.. that kind of thing is perfect. It is true that you notice it more on TV or DVD though, it's not like I go to the shows and complain, I'm too busy dancing around like a lunatic.

It's not the Hey Ohs by themselves, it's when they make the same 3 minute song 7 minutes everytime. Once I would like Letterbomb played through espcially because i feel that song is diluted live with the huge break in between

It really doesn't. 'Bitchy' would suggest that people come in and say "oh, Green Day totally sucks ass since American Idiot" or something like that, but most people make quite balanced, well reasoned contributions to this thread.

What?

I said they played Letterbomb on 99 Revolutions tour. It was freaking amazing :ga:

I love letterbomb live but taking a 3 minute break in between the 2nd course and the height of the songs everytime takes somethinf away from it

It was cool the first time in Rosemont (I was there :)) when Billie sat on Tre's stairs and told the crowd to sing/chant independently but now it should be retired. I can understand Hitchin a Ride, KFAD, and Brain Stew getting long breaks, but it's unnecessary on other songs to take 2+ minute breaks.

Brain Stew is ok for me because that's the moment when they give away t-shirts. But Hitchin' a Ride is horrible

Oh, that reminds me - exemption for St. Jimmy now that it's the one for the guns and water

I really enjoy Are We the Waiting and I'm not the biggest Brain Stew fan, but I like the current Brain Stew/St. Jimmy combo.

I love Are We the Waiting! I have to be in a certain mood to listen to it, but it's a beautiful song. I've never been a huge fan of Brain Stew, either. I like the lyrics but I hate the instrumentation. It drives me crazy, 'cause it's so boring. I understand that's the point, but I don't like it.

And the song drags on for far too long, especially at the end. It's the only GD song that, when I hear it on the radio, I won't listen to it because it's just not a good song to listen to when you're in the car. Or ever.

i'm beyond ready for st. jimmy to leave the setlist  it's a good time live whenever you're there but yeah, if i could choose one song that they would realistically remove from the setlist it would be st. jimmy. sadly i don't think they'll ever get rid of basket case no matter how sick of it i am.

Idea: Jaded. No Brain Stew. WHAAAT?!

Also, I think She's A Rebel could be amazing as a staple, with a call and answer type interaction. Billie, then crowd, then both together.

That's When I Come Around and Longview for me. I almost always change the channel when those are on. I've heard them a million times and they're both really repetitive.

Fact of the matter is, the songs they play live work. We find it repetitive here because we are big fans who are viewing the whole tour, not just a single show, like most people attending are. They will always have songs where a lot is added on. If it isn't Hitchin a Ride then it'll be another song. It works for them. Just like Know Your Enemy in the #2 whole. High energy and when you are there, you get pumped. Basket Case, When I come around, and Longview are Dookie staples and should not leave the set list, because your average fan needs to here those classic songs. I think BJA should do acoustic 2nd encore everytime. Brutal Love/AI/JOS with whole band. Then BJA plays Last Night on Earth/Good Riddance/ and some other ballad. Green Day is the best live band in the world for a reason. They know what they are doing.

Welcome to Paradise is not my favourite. I understand the feelings etc, but the actual wording seems forced and awkward.....

Except for X Kid live. That reeeeeeeally doesn't work.

Yeah! Please, Green Day, make this happen! Like:

Billie: She's a rebel

Audience: She's a saint

Everyone: She's the salt of the Earth and she's dangerous

Billie: She's a rebel

Audience: Vigilante!

Everyone: Missing link on the brink of destruction

That would be so fucking lovely I'd die of happiness and cuteness and eargasm and and... *explodes*

It'd be more like:

Billie: She's a rebel
Audience: She's a saint
Everyone: She's the salt of the Earth and she's dangerous
Billie: She's a rebel
Audience: Vigilante!
Everyone: Missing link on the brink of destruction
because only like 20% of the audience would know the words.

They can have the lyrics on their big fuck off screens and it'll be like a disney sing-along
