Cath
King For A Day is shit live. Well it's not shit, but now it's so predictable what's happening, the first time I saw it I loved it, with all the costumes and the covers. But now everyone in the crowd knows what's going to happen and I just don't feel there's the same buzz about the song anymore i wouldn't say it's shit but i pretty agree. i wouldn't bother if they took off that one from the setlist. it's funny, it gives them a little break but i'd prefer them to add some rare songs. (they could add 4-5 songs)

And the vast majority won't have watched any given song multiple times on youtube either. So it's still surprising and entertaining for most people. They put together a show to entertain the crowd as a whole, not just the small proportion of it who've seen loads of their shows (live or on video). I've seen it live three times and on video countless times and still get a buzz from it anyway . Plus they do mix it up a bit with different covers, costumes and banter etc too. They've got a lot of other setlist staples that they vary less. (Always have to defend my fav live song )

That was one of their staple songs and they took it off. I think maybe they should switch it up between those two a bit more. Don't get me wrong if I'm seeing Green Day live I will get a buzz off every single song they play and I will love it. I just want them to mash the setlist up a bit. It hasn't varied much at all from the 21st CB tour.

I wouldn't mind seeing them mix things up either, but I just have a soft spot for songs that are full of silly/entertaining traditions and antics . If I had my way there'd be King For A Day and Brain Stew/Jaded at every show for that reason. I'd always rather see staple songs that are less antic-filled get the chop instead. Yeah personally I would get rid of Longview, When I Come Around and Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. Bring in The Grouch, Platypus and Homecoming. Or Green Day could just play every single one of their songs they've written and play all night long (like they say they are going to at every show )
Z J
Regarding some of the recent posts complaining about the "hey-ohs" and King for a day. I agree, for the most part. They Hey-ohs have slightly increased in volume, and it is annoying at times. King For a Day is a bit played out, for me. But I'm an avid Green Day fan. I've seen countless youtube videos of their live performances. So obviously I notice these things more. But to an average concert goer, Green Day is so incredible because of those things. You can read countless reviews of some of their biggest arena shows and you will find that the reason they are so good is the "hey-ohs" and the silly King For a Day act. These reviews are sometimes from first time Green Day concert goers. That's the crowd they aim to please.

It involves the crowd, and just makes you feel part of the whole experience (well for me it does) I hey ohs! The more the merrier. I'm definitely with you on Homecoming! But now everyone in the crowd knows what's going to happen and I just don't feel there's the same buzz about the song anymore It's not really that predictable. Every once in a while they add something new to it. It's an amazing song for interaction with the crowd and making people laugh and have fun, while the band clearly has fun too... I just love love love every second of it. I hope it never goes away because it's one of those parts of the set that, to me, define a GD show. When I'm there in the crowd I'm so engrossed in the show and singing along and everything that they don't seem repetitive, it's just fun doing them back. musso_kn
I can't for the life of me find the Most Underrated Green Day Song Thread, so I'm going to use this thread as a platform to say Best Thing In Town is the best thing in their early discography. munns6691
I think they should do a secret show with true fans only and play all the songs they've never performed live. For example: Worry Rock, Deadbeat Holiday, Suffocate, Misery, Stuart and the Ave., No Pride, Andriod, etc.

It's here if you want it, obviously that's fine for this thread too though! I can't agree (those Sweet Children EP songs are my least favourite of all their songs). But I have another unpopular favourite early song: The One I Want
musso_kn
Jeez, the whole 'true fan', 'fake fan', 'old Green Day', 'new Green Day' talk is just bollocks. They really seem to be only the band in the world at the moment whose fanbase love to throw this kind of shit around. I'm a casual fan of many other bands, but I don't find they're core fanbases half as uptight. And the stigma surrounding young female fans... It's probably the curse of their punk roots. It's here if you want it, obviously that's fine for this thread too though! I can't agree (those Sweet Children EP songs are my least favourite of all their songs). But I have another unpopular favourite early song: The One I Want Ahh, thanks. The One I Want is awesome, I agree. The solo is really genuinely emotional stuff. I'm slightly embarrassed to say they were the soundtrack to my tween/early teen school crushes.

Z J
Green Day albums (main releases) ranked best to worst (note that when I say "worst" I mean slightly less awesome): 1. American Idiot 2. 21st Century Breakdown 3. Dookie 4. Insomniac 5. Warning 6. Kerplunk 7. 39/Smooth 8. Nimrod 9. Tre 10. Uno 11. Dos ------ I'll happily discuss why I believe certain albums are in certain positions if someone wants to

Part of why it is up there for me is because the 21cb tour is by far the best they did. They were incredible. The songs have so much power live. Nimrod just never really caught on with me. I enjoy some of the songs, but the only standout to me was Good Riddance (not to state obvious)
BJROCKER
Not many people here would give their arms and legs to hear Stuart and the Ave. live I guess. Well I would! And Stuart and the Ave. is by far the best song on Insomniac imo
