Unpopular Green Day Opinions

You can't deny that the fact that she likes "Rest" is a pretty unpopular opinion though :P

I love Rest. Something about the harmonies just makes me love it lots.

I actually love it too. It's different and the harmonies are awesome. It gets a lot of hate on here though

I've honestly loved it from the first time I heard it. It's sad that it's unpopular, though. I think it's an excellent song.

I'm pissed of at Green Day's marketing team. Where are the singles at? There has only been Stray Heart from Dos, and X-Kid (kinda, its not a single in New Zealand) from Tre. It almost seems like when Billie Joe went to rehab, they all took a holiday. The 99 revolutions tour has been amazing on all accounts and the promotion great, but SINGLES! Shouldn't at least 99 Revolutions be a single since they named their tour after it? Just my opinion :)

I actually care about them being popular and mainstream.

Have you ever listened to the Frustrators? Or do you hate them?? And I think Mike's SUPPOSED to sing like that especially for these punk rock operas they've been releasing. For the part that he sings in Homecoming, that voice suits it well. Or any voice - it's his part of the song.

Mike doesn't sing lead in The Frustrators though, he does backing there too.

So many people bash me up when I say this.I mean what the fuck is wrong in expecting your favourite band to have a little success? It's really stupid.

Exactly. I'm not sure why, but it seems to be the biggest taboo around here.

I think lots of peeps feel more comfortable when their favorite band is only known by like a cult audience, cause they feel more close to it, as if the music is just for them. Apart of them. They feel special having their own little scene going on with nobody to kill their buzz. When their favorite band starts getting exposure to a wider audience, they get upset cause they don't wanna associate themselves with other kinds of people. It's kinda creepy.

I think most people here do like it when they have success. But it's not the most important thing, more the icing on the cake (the cake being made of them making great music and playing great shows :D). I think a lot of the time when people say "I don't care if they're successful/popular" etc it's not that they don't want them to be successful, it's just that they're still happy even if they're not.

Although of course there are some people who say they don't want them to be successful because they don't want them attracting fangirls etc. Or people who assume that because you say you'd like to see them popular it means the only thing you care about is them being popular. And I agree with you there, that's silly.

Never heard of them, and yes his voice does suit him well, I just think Billie is better.

The Frustrators is another band Mike plays bass in. I'd say Terry the singer is nowhere near as good as Billie Joe but the point is, I just don't believe musicians should be judged by their level of talent. But I do agree that Billie's voice is better than Mike's in many ways. But Mike's backing vocals are great.

In Italy we have the so called "bimbeminkia". It's a blend word made up of "bimbe" (little children girl) and "minkia" (sicilian word to say "cazzo", which in Italian does not only mean "penis", but even "f*ck" in the expression "what the f*ck?!"). So they're like "WFTchildren".

Well, this category of people, generally included between 8-15 years old (I say generally, because A LOT of them are older), use to say that Billie Joe should marry them, that they feel punk. They go to shows with their daddies since the day before, camping outside the gates, during the show they use their hands only to record EVERY FUCKING SONG in a video and they are shocked when you accidentally push them during pogo. They believe to every fake spoiler on Billie's death, band split up, gossip etc. etc. Generally they started to listen to Green Day after 21stCB era and so they can sing the whole trilogy but they don't even know what Logview is.

I mean, this is what getting into mainstream brought to the band, at least in Italy. A bunch of bimbeminkia.

AND I LOVE mainstream Green Day, I love that my favourite band is world wide known and appreciated.

But I hate bimbeminkia.

I hate this too. The best is when spoiled little brats show up with their moms 2 hours before the show and try to skip to the front of the line and argue with the people at the front who won't let them cut. "BUT THEY'RE ONLY 12 YEARS OLD." So? "BUT WE LOVE GREEN DAY!" So do we. But to me, the pride i have in the band for being as successful as they are totally outweighs the annoyances that their success might cause for the more hardcore fans.

I wouldn't care about the younger fans if they didn't think they were superior or had more privilege just 'cause they're a kid. I mean, I wasn't being a dick and cutting everyone in line when I saw Green Day (I was 11, I think) 'cause I realized that I got there kind of late, compared to everyone else, so I should just stand in the back of the damn line. It's really not that hard. Some kids just don't get it though.

I don't know if this is an "unpopular" opinion per se but is it just me or is "Stuart and the Ave." one of the best break-up songs in the history of break-up songs?

Great song but I can never find a live version where he doesn't forget the freaking lyrics. Anyone here know of one?

Great point. Seemed like some of their songs were definitely radio-ready (Stray Heart, Let Yourself Go, Nuclear Family, X-Kid, Amy, 99 Revolutions) but somebody dropped the ball because despite the rehab, the radio performance was abysmal for a band whose lead single off of 21cb has 70million youtube hits

When the best your team can do is Japanese women's thighs... your promo ain't that good. I suspect that many employees of Warner or Green Day's team may have an account here at GDC and elsewhere, even the band itself, which makes me wonder why, amid the clamor, they haven't heard that we want DRB and other things.

Unpopular Opinion:

I fucking love No One Knows and Rest. Always have. That's right, I said it.

Those are actually my favorite songs from their respective albums.

Promo stopped at the label when rehab started cause simply it cost thousands to million of dollars to promote an album and with no band to be on the road to go on tv shows and meet and greets it's risky and hard to promote an album with no band a few years ago a labrl might have been more open to continue but those days are dead and gone...

Looks like we have good taste. ;). And it seems as though we're not completely alone on this, considering the love Rest is getting in the above posts. :)

that begs the question: Now that they are back, should they try and re-release a single or at least get the promo train rolling again for when they are back in the U.S.? Get some songs on some TV ads, radios will pick them up. (See: FUN) (I hate FUN BTW)

They could and should I'm willing to bet those remixed tracks are going to be released as a ep or maybe a best of the trilogy in the near future (i dont know that for a fact im just guessing)

I've been listening to a lot of early Green Day recently, and I've come to the conclusion that Dookie and Insomniac, while solid records, come across as a little...forced. There is material on Kerplunk that is far more genuinely aggressive than anything on Insomniac.

I wouldn't say that about Dookie, but Insomniac maybe. Insomniac could of been trying to prove something to the folks back at Gilman. Still a rad album of course. Kerplunk and 1039/Smooth hit some chords in me that none of their other albums have, granted I'm around the age they were when they made those records.

I may get flamed for this. But I've noticed that Billie's 'Heyyyoooo's' and screams of 'Let's go crazy' are getting more frequent these days. I don't mind it during some songs, as it adds to the party atmosphere and all. But is it really necessary to drop them into pretty much every single song they play live? I admire his attempts to engage the crowd, and he does it brilliantly, but it's a little too much sometimes I feel. Also, Jason Freese playing the organ during some of the older songs just sounds wrong.

King For A Day is shit live.

Well it's not shit, but now it's so predictable what's happening, the first time I saw it I loved it, with all the costumes and the covers. But now everyone in the crowd knows what's going to happen and I just don't feel there's the same buzz about the song anymore
