musso_kn
As much as I love their early work, songs like Dry Ice, The One I Want, Only Of You and even 80 are extremely sappy. I normally hate sappy lyrics. My mother had this tape of love songs she used to play over and over when she drove us to school. I grew to hate the sentiment eventually. Replace the fast guitar, drums and bass in those aforementioned tracks with a slow pianos and strings and you essentially have a set of Backstreet Boys songs in the making. Yet, I - and I'm sure many others - would totally dismiss a ballad by such a 'boy band'. It's a huge double standard.

The huge difference in this case is that Billie wrote those lyrics from personal experience, making them truly heartfelt, whereas songs for the Backstreet Boys were written by faceless professional songwriters in exchange for mountains of cash. The fact that he was a teenager is enough of an excuse. Give past Billie some slack

Z J
To me it's Billies voice definitely the voice, it's kind of soft on the studio version because of the effect they were using, and live it doesn't work as well. I still like the song though
musso_kn
Both are fantastic, but 1039 is a far superior record to Kerplunk.
Asa.
Now that it's past and problems have been resolved, I think the whole iHeart thing was one of the most legendary acts of badassery ever. Yes, it was under awful circumstances, and I wouldn't want it to ever happen again, but I mean..."I'm not fucking Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers". No one has the balls to say that. Billie fucking said it.

munns6691
Both are fantastic, but 1039 is a far superior record to Kerplunk. Is liking Kerplunk more than 1,039 smooth an unpopular opinion? Because i feel if you took the top 10 songs from both records combined, only one or maybe two would belong to 1039

Clockwise
Yeah, Kerplunk is in my top three GD records and 39/smooth ranks pretty low on that list.

SmoothedOut
All he does in this is backing vocals? And they are fine. Doesn't make him a lead singer. I'll counter with this video...go to about 4:30 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBeUDqJI5y8 Have you ever listened to the Frustrators? Or do you hate them?? And I think Mike's SUPPOSED to sing like that especially for these punk rock operas they've been releasing. For the part that he sings in Homecoming, that voice suits it well. Or any voice - it's his part of the song.
Guest
Unpopular Opinion: I fucking love No One Knows I have seen exactly one person on this site say they didn't like No One Knows. It's as popular an opinion as can be.

Lots of people feel Kerplunk is their favourite Green Day album, but not many would say that about 1039. Also, 1000 hours is better than Dry Ice. St. Christian Of Suburbia
Ooh, I have one. Basket Case isn't that good. It's not bad at all, but in my personal opinion it doesn't deserve to be one of their biggest hits. To me the song is just very plain, not much about it stands out as being special. But I don't want to undermine the fact that I don't dislike it... I guess I'd just say that it's overrated. There were better songs on Dookie that I would've preferred as singles. SmoothedOut
I actually don't mind Green Day's setlists on the 99 Revolutions Tour. Some people are saying it's really bad and the song-choices aren't good. I'd say it's back to the way Green Day toured during the 90's. If you guys take a look at their 90s tours their setlists were just full of handpicked songs. It was just a mixed bag really and they didn't try to play the song in an order that would be the best. Armatage Shanks would get played in the beginning, Brat somewhere in the middle, Jaded last? It was pretty normal. Now we get professional footage of Nice Guys Finish Last in the Rock Am Ring 2013 show which may not seem normal.. but before American Idiot small-time hits got their coverages too. It wasn't just Basket Case and She. PRESENTATION-WISE it's obviously a step down. That's what most people are probably disappointed about. Green Day didn't top their previous selves but ONLY in that area. Musically, if their career in their 90s was anything to go by, they are still kicking it. However, there are no pyros, massive intros, catwalks, background arts, and all that. Just a plain stage and music. Wasn't Green Day always like that? Why is it that of all their songs back in 2000, they played "Brat" in Much Music? It's really pretty normal for them to choose random songs. Again, it may not be the popular vote but whatever they're doing now is very similar to what they were doing in the 90s so people should calm down. It's also nice to see songs like Waiting, Missing You, Nice Guys Finish Last, and a whole lot more of their trilogy stuff replace SOME of their rock opera era stuff like 21 Guns, 21st Century Breakdown, and etc. because we people can actually relive the era of their fast-paced 90s career. Fast, upbeat songs, no ballads, and just lots of fun. It sounds very Green Day to me. The Green Day of 2004-2012 wasn't always Green Day even if during that era they had the best formula of songs - presentation-wise.

NowhereBound
You can't deny that the fact that she likes "Rest" is a pretty unpopular opinion though Word. Hold up, who doesn't love No One Knows?! Since both No One Knows and Rest are on the slower side, I clumped them together in the same category. I actually didn't know that No One Knows was so popular amongst fans, so I apologize. I guess me loving Rest would be the unpopular opinion then.
