HolyHandGrenade
i love the whole trilogy except the forgotten i dont like it at all its too long and repetitive The Forgotten is basically Green Day's (unsuccessful) attempt to recreate 21 Guns. It doesn't help that it was on Twilight's soundtrack. That just forfeited any consideration I would have made as to whether I liked it.

WhiteTim
If you don't like a song because it's featured on a soundtrack or it plays into why you don't like it well I won't say are a fucking idiot but I will say seriously needs to grow up ... You better mind yourself anyway, I do recall a very rude comment made about my innocent little sister a while ago.If you don't like a song because it's featured on a soundtrack or it plays into why you don't like it well I won't say are a fucking idiot but I will say seriously needs to grow up ... Excuse my hyperbole I was just disappointed that Green Day('s PR team) decided that Twilight's audience was the correct niche to market to. Cob
I really don't get The Forgotten/21 Guns comparison. Those songs are nothing alike, I really don't see how it's an attempt at rehashing 21 Guns other than the fact that the public loves ballads. HolyHandGrenade
actually it's Twilight who asked them and Mike said he was honored to be part of this because songs chosen on the Twilight soundtrack used to be good. So how would that process work? Did the members of the production team listen to the whole trilogy and pick The Forgotten, or did GD pick it themselves? I mean if you don't like the song that's cool but to use twilight as a reason is idiotic. I'm not a huge fan of it myself i listen to it only when im listening to the album in full it's a okay song but maybe 30 seconds to a minute too long imo
St. Christian Of Suburbia
To be honest I think that the middle section is generally where all three of the trilogy albums get weak. ¡Uno! is great up until Loss of Control and then doesn't pick up again till Oh Love, and even if LOC isn't bad it's considerably weaker than the others. I love pretty much all of ¡Dos! but I think Ashley is a very weak track, however I do think it immediately picks back up with Baby Eyes (I really enjoy that one) but unfortunately I lump the two together. And ¡Tré! is fantastic up until SD&V, at which point the songs get super repetitive and musically weak until DRB (except for Amanda, that one's great). stories and songs
Apparently this is an unpopular opinion - I love Ashley! It made it onto my Ultimate Trilogy Playlist, lol.

HolyHandGrenade
I mean if you don't like the song that's cool but to use twilight as a reason is idiotic. I'm not a huge fan of it myself i listen to it only when im listening to the album in full it's a okay song but maybe 30 seconds to a minute too long imo Here, let me rephrase. I had only heard perhaps 10 seconds of the song prior to listening to it with the rest of Tre. I prefer to listen to songs in context first, because that's ruined some songs for me, specifically Oh Love and Get on Your Boots (U2). Upon listening to it a good few times, I found that I really didn't care for it, and thought that GD had done better ballads before (even with their limited library of such songs). I have a long standing distaste for Twilight, stretching back years before the trilogy, and once I realized I didn't like the song, the fact that it was in a Twilight movie did no favors to make me want to convince myself to like it - which I am capable of doing. There have been many songs from many albums that I was entirely indifferent to, or even hated, that I have put on repeat and made myself like. Not a bad idea, since some of them are now my favorites. Cob
Funny, that was my hubby's criticism of the trilogy - too many ballads! Did he listen to the same Trilogy we all did? Out of 37 songs there are arguably 2-4 ballads, and I really only consider 2 of them to be traditional Green Day ballads (The Forgotten and Brutal Love, the argument could be made for Amy and Drama Queen but those are in completely different styles). Of course. He just focused on the few he heard and based his opinion of the whole trilogy on those. Silly boy!

lizziebix
Maybe he isn't defining them as "ballads" per se but rather slower songs which he doesn't really care for.
