Ok I'd say a solid 85% kicks ass, there are songs like See the Light or Angel Blue in my opinion that are putrid

Nope. I could say the vice versa for you.

Weakest on American Idiot is Are We The Waiting for me.

I don't think every Green Day song is shit dude. I just accept that some of them aren't good.

You sure hide that well. Just as well I don't think every Green Day song is the greatest thing ever, but there's nothing in their catalog isn't "good" to me. Even the songs that I despise or don't enjoy listening to, I recognize that they're pretty strong efforts for the most part. There's a reason they're my favorite band, and a reason why I'd even go so far as to join a fan-site of theres.

I fail to understand the dislike of See The Light on this site. Of all my "real-life" Green Day fan-friends-things whatever its a favorite. Angel Blue I can kind of see, but I love the energy and explosiveness of that song. It's one of my favorites off Uno. Nothing like just strapping on a Les Paul and letting it rip.

I only say that because I rarely ever listen to the song on it's own. I can listen to everything on American Idiot without it's lead in, lead out track except that song. Without St. Jimmy and without a context it comes off as pointless. All together though, as a whole, it's perfect.

When have I ever said every Green Day song is shit?

In case you didn't notice, I joined this site too. And Green Day are probably my favourite band of all time, even if I'm not as infatuated with every noise they make anymore.

Agreed.

But let this performance change your mind about See The Light: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcFUMIi_Pmo

It worked for me.

That is actually a much better version of the song I gotta admit.

I wish I had real life green day fan friends. But no See The Light is bland and a filler in my opinion. Angel Blue just doesn't grab my attention and the lyrics are weak, I mean, wtf does Angel Blue even MEAN?

The lyrics are about writing heartbreak songs. It's a callback to when Billie just started writing. It was originally titled "Teenage Blue", remember. Calling it "Angel Blue" goes back to that adolescent "innocence" that was seen in their earliest work.

I don't see where the "Blue" comes in

Blue = sadness. Like in every other artistic endeavor that involves that color.

Or his guitar.

That's a possibility. I know a lot of people were like "omg iz bout his guitar" after he posted that photo on instagram. I don't think it's literally about the guitar, but he definitely could be referencing sitting there, writing all those old songs on Blue when he was a kid.

I think See the Light is an excellent bookend to 21st Century Breakdown.

Add me to the list of people who like She's a Rebel. I have no problem at all with the repetition in that song, I think it is so catchy and upbeat. And the way they were able to combine it with Last of the American Girls in the musical was fucking phenomenal.

One of my favorite Green Day songs of all time. One of my favorite songs of all time, period.

Little Girl is phenomenal. The first time that F# comes it after the piano intro is like getting smacked in the face with a guitar amp. That's one of the most powerful moment's in a Green Day song, I believe.

Don't get why people hate See the Light. I really like that song. The guitar and drum solos, plus Billie's subtle scream, are awesome.

Also the lyrics and those impossible high harmonies. It's such a good song.

Right? I wholeheartedly agree. It is incredibly powerful. My heart always skips a beat when the guitar kicks in.

I also love the heaviness and darkness of that song. It is a lot heavier than a lot of Green Day's music, and I love it when they do heavier songs. The verses also sound reminiscent of the Misery for me, which is a huge plus.

Anyone else think Makeout Party is one of the not so good songs on the trilogy? I love the song and all but I feel like it isn't as good as some of the others. Little Boy Named Train is my least favorite of the entire trilogy though.

Aw, those are two of my top Trilogy favorites. Makeout Party makes me think of early Stooges. Like I can't get that riff out of my head. It's perfect. The lyrics are kinda funny because these are 40 year olds hahaha but that music is HOT.

Little Boy Named Train is pretty good. It has a good flow. I think there are much worse songs than this one in the Trilogy.

I just watched the Bullet in a Bible Hitchin' a Ride performance again

Maybe I've seen it one too many times (that makes me sound like a perv, but I objectively believe it's a great live song in all eras) but Billie Joe's public, so called 'jacking off' is really not that dirty.

I agree. Before I saw BiaB all the way through, I had heard so many people say "Oh, I was so embarrassed that my parents saw it! It's the dirtiest thing he's ever done!" --- BJ's done much dirtier things than that.
