Comrade
All this is AI their best chat is stupid because Nimrod is their best album. It has their best songs (Hitchin' A Ride, Scattered, Redundant, Worry Rock, Good Riddance, King For A Day) but also somehow their very worst (Take Back). Eva
Really? I would expect American Idiot to be one of your favorite songs. This whole week I've been obsessed with that song. The attitude, the energy, the aggression that punches into each strum. Everything about that song is done so well, even if it's just a simple punk rock song. Can you imagine being a kid, walking into your living room where your parents are watching Letterman and seeing this for the first time? My mind would absolutely explode. It's repetitive, repetitive, repetitive, repetitive as hell. I love the idea behind it. I love the lyrics. I can't stand the instrumental. It just sounds too clean for that. If it was dirty, awful quality recording, I'd probably love it. But the combination of repetitive punk power chords and higher quality production just rubs me the wrong way and I get bored. I love the politics and social analysis behind the lyrics but.... And yes, I can imagine being a kid and seeing things like that on TV. American Idiot came out when I was seven. My brother was obsessed. The first music video I ever remember seeing was Jesus Of Suburbia, which quickly became my favorite song. I love the album. For sentimental and emotional reasons, it's probably my favorite Green Day album. I just don't like the title track anymore. Just wanted to clear up in this thread that Sweet Children is not the first release Green Day put out. It was actually put out after 39/smooth and Slappy had been out for a while and was the last thing John Kiffmeyer recorded with them. The reason why it sounds so shitty is because it was recorded in two hours, but yeah. Not sure if anyone had/got the wrong impression, but just thought it needed to be said.It wasn't recorded while they were in California, either. It was recorded in two hours while they were on tour. I think they were in Minnesota? Not sure about that.
stories and songs
I actually think the bridge and ending to Restless Heart Syndrome is one of the best things Green Day have ever done. Perfectly captures that sense of fury, inner conflict and (self) loathing that the protagonist was feeling. All the more powerful considering his battles with alcohol. I think Restless Heart Syndrome a brilliant song. The lyrics are beautiful, powerful, and raw, and as you said, the bridge and ending are amazing. The part when he says "Know your enemy" gives me goosebumps every time, because it brings the entire album together in that one line - that the enemy was never outside forces - he was his own worst enemy the whole time. I always feel as though the absolute best Green Day songs come from a very honest, oftentimes not so pleasant place. I think Billie is an wonderful songwriter and this song is simply one of his best. Heather.
I love Rest ! I dont know if this is unpopular or just not something people have discussed, but the trilogy (which I like) really made me appreciate and be less 'disappointed' in 21st Century Breakdown. In particular, I've been re-reading the lyrics to that album, not listening to it, and it made me really nostalgic and renewed my disappointment in the trilogy lyrics as a whole. There are a few gem lines in the trilogy, one or two gem songs (lyric-wise), but for the most part it's not, IMO, up to Billie's poetic standards (I recognize that that was the point for a lot of it---fun fluffy music). I'm hoping that whatever 'rehab album' comes next will feature the best of both worlds---the intelligent, fascinating lyricism of songs like American Eulogy set to the melodies they developed on an album like Tre (which has the best lyrics on the trilogy, but still not the best of Green Day). munns6691
Nimrod should have included Suffocate, Desensitized, and J.A.R replacing King For A Day, Last Ride In, and Take Back. Last Ride in and King for a Day fit better on Warning in my opinion. 1. Nice Guys Finish Last 2. Hitchin' a Ride 3. The Grouch 4. Redundant 5. Scattered 6. All The Time 7. Worry Rock 8. Platypus 9. Uptight 10. Desensitized 11. Jinx 12. Haushinka 13. Walking Alone 14. Reject 15. Suffocate 16. J.A.R 17. Good Riddance 18. Prosthetic Head I think a Kerplunk Storytellers would be cool, actually all of their albums being done in that fashion would be just as cool. tdlyon
Okay guys, let me tell you what I think! : 1) Android is the best song they've ever done. ( And Murder City O.O ) 2) Though I think 21st Century Breakdown and American Idiot are Epic, I love Tré and Insomniac. 3) I can't bear Restless Heart Syndrome 4) Even if I love all the albums, the worse album is Kerplunk! Rage and Love <3 Don't know if this is unpopular but I HAAATTTEE when people do this. So cheesy and...Belieber-ish.
munns6691
Deadbeat Holiday should have been a single off of Warning. It saddens me that that song along with Worry Rock, Walking Alone, Scattered, and No Pride never got the recognition they deserve.

blitzkriegdeb
Not sure if it's unpopular but i don't think there was ever a Cigarettes & Valentines album. I still find it hard to believe that someone was able to steal the master recordings or whatever and they never like ~persued any charges or anything Seems like more than anything they had recorded a few songs and didn't really know where it was going so they kind of had to step back and re-evaluate what they they were doing and then idk American Idiot happened. Kind of like the whole "fuck Walmart" thing, I feel like the "stolen album" story was just a way to hype up American Idiot.
TimmyChunks
This thread just doesn't get old, does it? Hats off to whomever started it. If Billie recorded a solo album of nursery rhymes while playing ukelele, I'd buy it. If Mike composed a rock opera with a rubber band banjo and a kazoo I would definitely be there on opening night. Tre is so talented I would pay good money to see him go on a solo tour and play the triangle for three straight hours. And how could I forget Jason...well, if he wanted to pursue his dream of traditional Irish Dance and combine it with his unheralded yet surely prodigial tapdancing skills, I would absolutely support his efforts and be the first in line to attend. I'm sure none of these are unpopular opinions so much as they are foolish ones, but I don't care. This band is the best, and I'm still giddy over seeing them on the first leg of the tour. I'm super excited to see what's in store during the European tour and beyond. And, to make sure no one's feelings are hurt, there are no unpopular opinions, only opinions less popular than others. That's all.

Most likely Billie wasn't pleased with the music, destroyed it, and everyone agreed to create this conspiracy because it's more interesting No but seriously I definitely believe the band knows exactly what happened to that album, one way or the other. They probably 'stole' it themselves.

Cob
I really wanna hear a live version of Nightlife, for shits and giggles. although, a riot at the venue would probably happen Nope. Not enough people would know the song for a riot to happen. Sad but true. They need to really start promoting these albums again.
Hermione
East Jesus Nowhere was a single. It was barely one though, it wasn't released everywhere and didn't even have a proper video and was hidden away by being released at the same time as 21st CB. Would've been so awesome if they'd taken the world by storm with it as the album's lead single or maybe as a follow up to 21 Guns with a great video and plenty of promotion. When the album was first coming out it was the song getting all the attention in interviews and the band said they couldn't wait until they released it and got people's attention with it. But then bad timing meant that just as that should've happened the AI Musical took off, so they chucked it down the toilet by quietly rushing it out with 21st CB so they could get on with promoting the musical instead. Wasting that song was a crime and I'm still not over it
Cob
I heard East Jesus Nowhere all over the radio when it came out. I heard it more than Know Your Enemy (unfortunately I didn't hear it more than 21 Guns, ugh) but yeah. As far as I was concerned that was a pretty big song. My friends who weren't Green Day fans knew it pretty well (and actually liked it, believe it or not) and the band played it on all those late night talk shows.
