compare strangeland to say, murder city though. the boy's improved, give him credit!

ehh, "we are the last call and we're so pathetic" sounds like he says "super-thetic" weird pronunciation

are we taking early green day to include kerplunk?

Right? I can't figure it out, when did Billie have all that time to masturbate when he was too busy contemplating death and the future.

It has to be, I sort them out Sweet Children-Kerplunk- early Green Day, Dookie-Warning- 90's Green Day, and AI-now current Green Day. 90's Green Day isn't a good name for the Dookie-Warning category, but it's not really early Green Day and it's not current.

How do you guys rank the releases anyway?

1) Dookie and American Idiot

2) Kerplunk and 21st Century Breakdown

3) Nimrod

4) Warning:

5) Trilogy

6) Insomniac

7) 1039/SOSH

No no no no no no no no no no no

Don't turn it into one of those threads.

We had about a bajillion of them when the Trilogy first came out.

There's something humbling about a band that can pour a shit-ton of emotion into an almost 10 minute epic like Jesus of Suburbia and then turn around and make something just as sincere and moving with a simple pop song like Missing You.

It's that emotion and soul that makes even songs like Missing You epic, so as to speak. What a band.

But, wait, unpopular opinion, unpopular opinion... I need to temporarily hate on them before I get too soppy over a group of forty year old blokes.

Nahhh, I got nothing today, man.

I refuse to list the albums. Ever. It's just morally wrong.

i really love reject and i never see people talk about it but it's one of my favorites on nimrod

to be honest, I think without its singles Nimrod is just that kind of album. A collection of very good songs top to bottom that individuals find their own particular loves in.

seriously though I vividly remember someone in here slagging off Haushinka. reveal yourself so I can fight u

Least favourite popular song: Nice Guys Finish Last. It's alright; nothing mind blowing, though.

I absolutely adore Tight Wad Hill. Don't think that's very popular but it's one of my favourites.

Okay guys, let me tell you what I think! :

1) Android is the best song they've ever done. ( And Murder City O.O )

2) Though I think 21st Century Breakdown and American Idiot are Epic, I love Tré and Insomniac.

3) I can't bear Restless Heart Syndrome

4) Even if I love all the albums, the worse album is Kerplunk!

Rage and Love <3

I actually think the bridge and ending to Restless Heart Syndrome is one of the best things Green Day have ever done. Perfectly captures that sense of fury, inner conflict and (self) loathing that the protagonist was feeling. All the more powerful considering his battles with alcohol.

I LOVE Restless Heart Syndrome. Very epic conclusion in that song as well.

The demo of 21st Century Breakdown whilst not as well produced as the final version (obviously) is better, the way he sings "last one born first one to run" should have been kept. Although I mostly listen to the Awesome As Fuck version because I was at Wembley and every time I listen to it it takes me back.

Yes! I love the demo... The piano intro  I also like the production (or lack of)... Just perfect, but I love the album version too.

I'd like to quickly point out that while I understand some may not like the style of early Green Day, I feel no one should really be "hating" on it because without that early stuff, our dudes today wouldn't exist. Plus, Kerplunk is what got them signed to a major label, which created Dookie and the rest is history. So even if ya'll dislike the music, 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and Kerplunk are extremely important.

Anyway.

My least favorite popular Green Day song: American Idiot. I love the album but I can barely stand the song anymore. Eh.

I don't like Green Day's cover of Knowledge or the original Operation Ivy song. I don't like All By Myself or Dominated Love Slave either. Sorry, Tré. To be frank, I really don't like most of Green Day's "experimental" stuff.

Really? I would expect American Idiot to be one of your favorite songs. This whole week I've been obsessed with that song. The attitude, the energy, the aggression that punches into each strum. Everything about that song is done so well, even if it's just a simple punk rock song.

Can you imagine being a kid, walking into your living room where your parents are watching Letterman and seeing this for the first time? My mind would absolutely explode.

Just gotta say, Jason looks hilariously uncomfortable in that video

Just wanted to clear up in this thread that Sweet Children is not the first release Green Day put out. It was actually put out after 39/smooth and Slappy had been out for a while and was the last thing John Kiffmeyer recorded with them.

The reason why it sounds so shitty is because it was recorded in two hours, but yeah. Not sure if anyone had/got the wrong impression, but just thought it needed to be said.
