Unpopular Green Day Opinions

I've never understood the dislike of Sweet Children on this site. It's just Green Day doing their thing.

yeah i love the song cigarettes and valentines and of course if/when we ever get to hear the rest of the album i'll probably love it too but

american idiot is just in a league all of it's own. nothing else they've ever done even compares and it blows my mind that someone would have rather had them release an album that was bad enough they didn't even want to re-record it

Note that the band never said the songs were "bad." They just said they weren't "maximum Green Day". The way they've talked about it since, it seems like they just felt, in hindsight, that the album would have been too safe at the time; they felt that they weren't pushing themselves in a new direction.

But.... it had an ongoing theme in the artwork! :o I missed something like that in the trilogy artwork a bit :runaround: except: "X"s everywhere!

I'm not really a fan of the themes though. I really can't put it into words, it just doesn't attract me. Not the way the American Idiot/Warning/Nimrod/Trilogy art does.

NO

We must agree to disagree because Kerplunk and half of 1039 is awesome.

Well.

I love the 21CB artwork. How's that for an unpopular opinion.

Kerplunk is amazing. There's a reason it's often heralded as one of the best independent releases of all time.

The 21st Century Breakdown period was great. But, I absolutely loath the artwork from that time period. I couldn't take it seriously. I've loved the artwork and "theme" that went along with each album but 21st's I just didn't get. To me it was too youth politic, too teenage-girl-emo, too Occupy (in hindsight).

I totally agree.

But as for live shows and other stuff the 21st CBD was my favourite :D

But not everything Green Day does or had done has to be GOAT.

I honestly think Kerplunk = 21CB, tied for second greatest Green Day releases. The only one that's asking American Idiot on those terms is Dookie, and the winner of best out of those two depends on how I feel when I wake up in the morning.

1039SOSH is genuinely 90% crap though. Holy hell

I know. But some things do have to be.

You're all fools. Both 1039 and Kerplunk are sensational. They're the basis for what the band is today.

I think Warning is on the same level as American Idiot and Dookie.

21stCB definitely has my favorite artwork of their career. You're not alone there!

My source is someone who knows Tre pretty well, but the person said Tre stole it because the band were fighting over the songs too much.

too soon
