Unpopular Green Day Opinions

I don't know if I've said this before, but See The Light is a bit shit. A really poor, forgettable closer for an otherwise great album.

It's one of those songs where Billie had the lyrics but not the composition, which is why it's kind of a rip of 21st cb.But it's a good track though.

Change is my top 5 ever i love Cooke's music

I love Cooke's music too.Judging by Brutal Love, this kind of music fits so much with the voice of Billie.I wish they try something similar in the future.

Yeah, that's about right. The song has a nice message, but the music feels quite dull and doesn't stand out considering each of the songs of 21CB sound very distinct from each other.

I love the clean punchy guitar tone on the trilogy

Me too! It's so great being able to hear each element of the music so clearly on the Trilogy, it's really a big part of what makes it my favourite thing Green Day's done. I'd love to hear all their albums done that way just to get a better appreciation of all the different parts of the music.

I fucking love it, I've just seen a hell of a lot of hate for it. :P

I just love it too. :D If it's credited, why not make it?? It's a sing of respect, imo.

I think they made an awful selection of U.S. singles for the past 2 albums. (21CB, and the trilogy)

To clarify, I like the songs that were picked, I just think there are better choices for singles.

I was thinking about this a few minutes ago! I totally agree. I loved the production quality of American Idiot.

I would love to hear the whole trilogy with the production of American Idiot  I don't understand why there is such a big difference of production quality between AI and the trilogy, I mean both were produced by Rob. And after 8 years his production of the trilogy should be even better than in 2004. Maybe it's because of the big number of songs, which meant they didn't spend as much time for producing every song, as opposed to AI where they carefully worked on every second of the 13 songs over the span of months.

- I don't like Kerplunk.

- I think American Idiot and everything after is much better than their older stuff, even Dookie.

I love Basket Case because I can relate to the lyrics. Plus, the drum part is great, as well as the bass.

As for the widespread love of Basket Case, it was one of the singles when Dookie was released. In case anyone's forgotten, Dookie was a big hit. Of course the singles are going to be loved in massive numbers.

Don't break that again, transplants cost the state a fortune!

I find the older stuff does nothing for me. There's some songs I like, for example: She, Minority, Brainstew, Walking Contradiction, Basket Case etc,. But I I discovered Green Day when American Idiot started playing on the telly and at that point in my life, I could relate to the emotions written in that music. As I looked at the older stuff, I couldn't relate to it. It was all too immature for me. I think American Idiot and after tells a great story. I love the lyrics.

I don't like the fact that East Jesus Nowhere became a single. I liked being able to say one of my favorite GD songs was EJN and no one knowing what song I'm talking about.

I completely understand. American Idiot was the first Green Day album I ever heard. Hell, I think it's the first CD I ever bought too. As I've gotten older and gotten more into the punk scene, I find that earlier Green Day is a lot more catchy to me. I do still love American Idiot to death though.

Their early work is a lot more immature, lyrically, I will admit. I just love the vibe it has though. So what do you consider their early stuff, exactly? Before American Idiot or the Insomniac/Dookie era and before?

No one I know here that is not a Green Day fan knows that East Jesus Nowhere exists. The only songs they know from 21st Century Breakdown are 21 Guns and Know Your Enemy.

I don't understand what prompted them to release songs like Ha Ha You're Dead or Espionage as B-Sides.These songs have a lot of quality.

They probably didn't fit in with the rest of the record, in their opinion. I think Ha Ha You're Dead and Espionage could have fit in on Nimrod but they probably thought it was too different or didn't flow as well. Who knows? They are fabulous songs though.

39 Smooth and Kerplunk are kind no go areas for me. I just cannot listen to the songs for more than a minute before getting fed up. Every other album up until AI, I'll listen to a few songs here and there from them. People find that amazing though, because I love bands like Anti-Nowhere League, Crass, Stiff Little Fingers, Undertones etc,. I don't listen to a lot of modern music, so people are always baffled when I tell them I can't listen to Green Day's earlier stuff, when the bands I listen to beside them are all punk.

To be fair it may as well have not been a single . They didn't bother to make a proper music video, didn't release it worldwide, and barely promoted it. They rushed it out at the same time as the 21st CB single to get it out of the way so they could start promoting the American Idiot Musical instead. A damn shame, I WISH it'd been a hit single that everyone knew about :P. If a song is great the more people who get to hear it the better imo.

With those particular songs I don't think they were written at the same time as album songs and left off albums. Espionage was written for an Austin Powers film (it's used as background music and on the soundtrack). And Ha Ha You're Dead wasn't a b-side either, it was a brand new song for Shenanigans. I think making it the only new song on a b-sides compilation is pretty much as good as putting it on an album.
