Unpopular Green Day Opinions

It just seems like such an honest & open picture, I love it. The effects he's used is what makes it weird by the seems of it. I think he looks gorgeous but.. Different, y'know? Just somethings not right but I like that. It's like a new Billie. :)

Here's one: Insomniac, while absolutely excellent, is extremely overrated amongst fans and non fans alike. I suppose people consider it Green Day's most 'punk' album, but as far as I am concerned that isn't a particularly objective way to judge the quality of a record.

Huh. Really? It's always seemed like one of the most hated to me. Well, not hated, but not particularly liked, either...

I think music critics are pretty indifferent to it. Of the people I've talked to, whether in person or on the internet, insomniac's always a firm favourite. I think people don't talk about it much because it's almost unanimously thought to be so 'awesome'. There's nothing to dispute.

Insomniac is probably my second favourite GD album, Warning coming first. I've never really met many people who love it though, most people I've spoken to are like 'meh' about it but to be honest, I don't talk to many people regarding GD.

I've never noticed that.

I've always had trouble picking a favorite Green Day album. I usually say it's Insomniac but in reality I have no idea. :ermm:

Oh I couldn't either. I'd feel as if I was 'betraying' all the other records.

A random musing: I think the band should dip their toes into world music a little more. They've touched on it before - the middle eastern feel of peacemaker, the more Mediterranean tone to Misery - so they could really take that kind of sound somewhere. I'd love to here Billie master the sitar or something, George Harrison style :D

I'd love to hear some of their folk influences come to play a little more.

I think that Last Ride In and a good portion of Shenanigans have been results of that kind of experimenting

True, like the strings in Hitchin' a Ride and what not. I just don't feel they've done it enough.

Peacemaker definitely has an Eastern European folkish vibe to it.

As for Green Day experimenting, no thanks. They're not amazingly gifted musicians as it is, and stretching themselves might result in some quite frankly cringeworthy results. Leave that to session musicians.

Fact - I will not "Hey-o"

Glad to see I'm not the only Grumpy Old Man of GDC :P

But even with their apparently 'limited' musicianship, they've still, in my opinion, produced good 'experimental' stuff in the past so I don't see why they can't do it again. As well as good musicianship, it requires good...taste? I don't know if that's the right word. A good understanding of arrangements etc which I think they have developed.

It's good, but it rarely departs from their standard verse chorus verse chorus bridge solo verse chorus format. Slapping some strings onto a standard piano ballad (The Forgotten) doesn't suddenly make them geniuses, nor does pinching a melody line from a 50s innovator (Brutal Love).

In fact, now that I think about it, Longview is probably their most innovative song, with a unique bassline, and a flirtation of time signature change, along with some neat guitar harmonies at the end.

Having heard "Bohemian Rhapsody" playing on the loudspeaker at two different shows, I would really love to see Green Day perform the song live in its entirety like they used to perform "We Are The Champions".

Billie is a good singer, but he's not Freddie Mercury good. We Are The Champions is about the limit of his abilities. Besides, even Queen couldn't do that song justice live.

I've always wondered why Freddie sings that "and everything that goes within" part. It sounds so out of place.

Static Age should have been the lead single off 21stCB

God no. 21stCB should have been the lead single. I'm glad Static Age wasn't a single, it's a stormer live, but I don't think it would have been radio friendly enough.
