i had no idea that mike being attractive was even something up for debate like have you seen those biceps or

Are you kidding me? There are people out there that fantasize about Lord Voldemort and you think there are no people that find Mike attractive?

I'm sorry I offended! I just can't find fathom any attractiveness in him... I revoke my statement.

You reminded me of my favorite crowd-fail ever at a GD show.

THIS IS WHAT I NEED. THIS IS WHAT IT'S GONNA TAKE. THIS IS WHAT IT'S GONNA TAKE. I NEED EVERY SINGLE PERSON HERE IN MILTON KEYNES TO FREAK OUT -

*crowd screaming*

Wait. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Whoa. Whooooaaaaaa. BUT FIRST I NEED EVERYONE HERE IN MILTON KEYNES TO SCREAM 1, 2 - 1, 2, 3, 4!

How is that a fail? They were freaking out like he said, weren't they?

Going to Pasalaqua is a damn fine song, but it is not the best on 1039 smoothed out slappy hours or 39/smooth. That award goes to Green Day.

Wow really? I don't even have the song "Green Day" on my ipod cause I'd skip it every time, i think it's one of the worst. Paper Lanterns or The Judge's Daughter is the best in my opinion

It was the first Green Day song me and my brother jammed to, and for that it has a special place in my heart.

Really? Wow I actually didn't think people who find him attractive exist. Good for you! Or him? I don't know. Cool.

Of course being attractive has nothing to with how you perform musically but let's not kid ourselves. Fugly lead singers make for far less popular bands. In terms of concerts and shit. I know how that sounds, but let's be real. Not that it's a huge deal or anything, that's why I crossed it out!

Haha, obviously they aren't serious! I meant that I don't find them funny or entertaining. They are just kind of stupid and boring to me. I too feel like he could do better.

then explain bono..?

also, mike is, to use the common phrase, ho as hell.

Obviously there are uggo lead singers out there, but it definitely adds to band hype when lead singers are hot.

Yes, really. It has a dreamy feel to it, which is just perfect given the subject matter. Gorgeous bassline, nice chugging guitar playing, and Billie Joe shows an lyrical eye for detail.

Forget Bono, it's all about Deryck.

Watched the live stream yesterday and he literally said it once in the entire show.

I don't mean just the "1,2 - 1,2,3,4"-phrase, but everytime he counts his way into the chorus or the beginning of the song. I didn't watch the whole thing, I just went quickly through my favorites:

Once during 99 revolutions, twice during stay the night, once during stop when the red lights flash, once during letterbomb and once during missing you. I didn't watch the rest, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were more.

maybe because he's trying to make sure that everyone is playing at the right time...?

I think the band should have some self-criticism about their shows. Not only in terms of setlist (actually I am quite happy with their last sets), but in terms of "interaction". I know a lot of people love Billie's "hey-ho"s, the way he plays with the audience and all that stuff, and that's why maybe this is an unpopular opinion. The thing is that, even though I enjoy his way of acting, if the band cut out most of (not all) that stuff, they would be able to include 4 or 5 more songs in their sets. If they didn't lengthen soo much many of their songs, if Billie didn't include 30 seconds of "hey-ho" in almost every song, they could include several new songs or rarities. I guess that, in a Green Day show, it is not a big deal, but when in a festival they have such a restricted, limited time to play, see how they "waste" that time in those things instead of playing songs is a bit frustrating.

Having a fun, entertaining show > cramming in as many songs as possible imo. Without their wonderful flair for entertaining and involving the crowd they'd be just like every other boring live band. Personally when I'm actually at a show all I care about is that it lasts as long as possible and that I have loads of fun. I neither notice nor care about the number of songs played.

Since this now appears to be an unpopular opinion I guess I'll post it:

The reason Mike doesn't sing more is because he is a bad singer. Not much range is apparent in his verses, his tone never really varies, and he doesn't have much carry on his notes.

He has better range than Billie! He can sing much higher. In fact he sings a lot, he's on nearly every song as a backing singer. I'd say the reason he doesn't sing lead more is that Billie is just way better suited to it. Billie's a genius when it comes to being a frontman, commanding the crowd and leading the show, and he writes the songs and has an excellent distinctive frontman voice, while the same things can't be said for Mike (hence why he's not the lead singer!). I agree that he wouldn't be a good lead singer, but he's a good backing singer.

Forget Bono, it's all about Deryck.

Not sure what this has to do with unpopular Green Day opinions. Please don't spam.

That would hardly be necessary for any of those songs, so no, probably not. Most of the time it seems like he's just trying to work the crowd, but it's just too much.

I totally agree with you. Yeah, it is important to have fan interaction, as many others have pointed out, but too much of anything is bad. I went to my first Green Day concert in March, and I remember during Letterbomb when Billie had the crowd say "hey-ho" for like a minute or more. Yeah everyone seemed to enjoy it, but when you are in a hot arena surrounded by people, it gets exhausting and, to me, takes a little bit away.

I said he is a very good backup singer. But better range than Billie? (not the only thing Billie is better at) I'll use this video as an example. At the end of City of the Damned in Jesus of Suburbia. The way he climbs in to that note is something I can't see mike doing. 3:14 is the time to look for

Green Day's songs aren't often vocalist-friendly (probably the reason they are never used on singing competitions) But when Billie gets the chance, he's impressive. When he sings shout he shows off his range as well

Hmm, I think the way I'd put it is Billie has a more powerful voice. But in terms of just singing their individual parts in the songs I think Mike is generally singing a wider range of notes, particularly a lot of high harmonies. Billie is an amazing singer, more skilled than Mike. But I think Mike just happens to have a wider singing range (even if his singing within that range isn't as impressive as Billie's). Not knocking either of them though, I think the way their voices are means Billie's perfect for lead and Mike's perfect for backing, which is perfect for the band!

I would love an album with maybe 12 songs, and each band member sing 3 of them. Mike and Jason are both fantastic vocalists, who a casual fan could probably care less about.

The lyrics are quite dull and boring to me in that song, it just doesn't do anything for me

I mean I'm a huge fan and that wouldn't appeal to me.

To fit their voices the music would literally be ALL over the place which wouldnt be a cohesive album...
