Unpopular Green Day Opinions

When Billie starts Restless Heart Syndrome with "I've got a really bad disease" it makes me want to die because apart from that line the song would be perfect.

Uhh, I cringe every time I hear that line, too. It sounds like a terrible, corny metaphor. Musically, it's a pretty spectacular song but I would argue that the lyrics as a whole are a bit weak for Billie's standards.

Heres my opinions on green day, theres quite a few.

First off im not a massive fan of their early stuff on 1039 but there is a few really good songs on there like going to pasalaqua but on the whole im not a massive fan of it. Same goes for kerplunk, christie road welcome to paradise and a few others are awesome , but at the same time there is some awful stuff on there by green days standards (80). However there is a hint that the band would go on to be awesome and they did.

Dookie is a good album, but not amazing. Has almost a manufactured sound to it

Insomniac, nimrod and warning are perfect, showed the band still has the punk rock attitude but matured their sound both musically and lyrically. I dont think any band ever has had a run of 3 albums in a row as good as these 3.

American idiot would have been perfect too, but extraordinary girl, shes a rebel and give me novacaine ruin it for me. But letterbomb, homecoming, jos and st jimmy are easily 4 of the best songs of the decade.

21st century breakdown has its moments but sounds a little like they ran out of ideas . Theres a lot of overproduction and nonsensical songs forced together and given a vague story. Also its when green day started recycling songs such as deadbeat holday in american eulogy.

Uno and tre are good albums.Dos is rubbish. From all three you could have had a great 15 song album but i think the guys felt after 2 concept albums they had to do something special, resulting in 3 albums and a lot of filler.

Mike should sing more. Tre should sing more (dominated love slave part 2) ?

Really don't like emilys army either.

Apparent unpopluar opinion: I'm alright with the amount of singing mike and tre do, they don't need whole verses or songs

I think the band should have some self-criticism about their shows. Not only in terms of setlist (actually I am quite happy with their last sets), but in terms of "interaction". I know a lot of people love Billie's "hey-ho"s, the way he plays with the audience and all that stuff, and that's why maybe this is an unpopular opinion. The thing is that, even though I enjoy his way of acting, if the band cut out most of (not all) that stuff, they would be able to include 4 or 5 more songs in their sets. If they didn't lengthen soo much many of their songs, if Billie didn't include 30 seconds of "hey-ho" in almost every song, they could include several new songs or rarities. I guess that, in a Green Day show, it is not a big deal, but when in a festival they have such a restricted, limited time to play, see how they "waste" that time in those things instead of playing songs is a bit frustrating.

I get what you're saying, but there's a reason why Green Day are considered one of the best - if not THE best - live band in the world and I think all the interaction has a lot to do with that. Their ability to connect with every single crowd is part of what makes going to GD shows so special no matter how many times you've seen them. The hey-ohs can be a bit much at times, but honestly? If they went back to playing shows without bringing people onstage, without the heyohs, without KFAD shenanigans I'd probably be really disappointed even if it meant three or four more songs.

Well, I am not saying they should completely eliminate those things, I enjoy them and that's why I love seeing the band live (in fact I hate those bands who get on stage and play their songs without even raising their eyes from the guitar), but if they cut out only half of the interaction, there would still be a lot of it and leave space for more songs.

But I understand why you don't agree with me, it's just that the GD show I will be attending will be only 2 hours and I suddenly feel that, if they didn't dedicate so much time to play around, I would enjoy a full-lenght show.

i actually think they hey-ohs are a lot more important in a festival setting than at one of green day's concerts. interaction with a crowd, especially at a festival when there are bound to be hundreds, if not thousands, of non-fans watching you play, is really important in leaving a good impression and maybe converting a few people. i remember when i was at leeds fest back in 2010, thrice came on stage, said, "hey we're thrice," played the songs, and said, "cheers, bye," before walking offstage. no interaction. any interest i had in their band had vanished, because they didn't show good showmanship and they appeared to have little appreciation for the crowd in front of them, listening to their music. billie's antics, along with the rest of the band's, convey their enthusiasm at playing for all these people; when you watch green day live, you can tell that they live for it, even if you're not a fan (case in point: my mum, lol). while i somewhat agree that the hey-ohs could be toned down a little during the shows, at a festival it's paramount. it endears the band.

Some bands your lucky if you get a 70 minute show so be happy you'll get at least a 120 minute show...

I actually hate the "hey-oh"s with a burning passion. I might have literally rolled my eyes at the last show... sorry BJ...

Regarding See the light, I find more similarities in the chorus of Shook me all night long rather than Rock and roll all night, that's the reason why I don't really listen to that song.

OK, I can hear it!

It's not exactly about Green Day but I think it belongs here. I don't get all the hype around Emily's Army, I think they are really below average and people worship them olny because of Billie's son.

I try not to get too critical about them since they are so young but I think you're right about the hype surrounding the band.

Apparent unpopluar opinion: I'm alright with the amount of singing mike and tre do, they don't need whole verses or songs

I love them but God, I totally agree. I just don't like the sound of their voices. I'm cool with them sticking with what they do best.

Wow! That's Loud is probably my favorite song off of the trilogy and one of my favorite songs they have ever written but I think it would be so much better if it was only like 2 minutes long. The extra noise gets old after a while. Hell, if they used that time to do a couple more verses even..I still adore the song, but I think a 2 minute Wow! That's Loud would have been better.

If Mike Dirnt were the actual lead singer of the band, Green Day would actually sound punk rock. Billie's voice, although pretty, is just too girly normally to sound hardcore. But friggin Mike in American Eulogy.... that shit sounds like a punk song.

He also fits the bill for The Network perfectly

Man, I've just noticed something. After learning how to play/sing No Pride and Westbound Sign on guitar, I really do think those two songs are the best on Insomniac, hands down.

But then they'd have to change musically to fit Mike's voice and they wouldn't have been so big...

I know :( It's not a good rap song, it's not a good Lonely Island song, his singing is appalling, it's not even that funny. It just fails on every level.

It's true. If Mike sang and they were actually some hardcore underground band, I probably wouldn't know about them.

I just like to dream of a day when Green Day releases an album (under Green Day specifically, not a new band) where Mike sings (mostly) with a really grungy raw sound, almost Sex Pistols-esque (really dreamin now) but with powerful Billie Joe-written lyrics.

I mean I could really do without Mike's part in Sex, Drugs & Violence because it just doesn't fit right... but when I heard American Eulogy, I was like WHEN DID I PUT IN THE CLASH.

I hate 21 Guns. I think that song is awful. I skip it everytime. As soon as it starts I cringe

I only like Know Your Enemy live.

I think the Forgotten is super boring. And Twighlight only made me dislike it more unfortunately

This might not be unpopular but Nightlife would've been better without Lady Cobra.

I like Fuck Time. A lot. (maybe because I am generally thinking dirty thoughts lol)

This may come across as a silly unpopular opinion, but to me "Wow! That's Loud" basically sounds like an excuse for Billie Joe to let out his [pardon cliche but] inner gay hairdresser.

Just standing there looking at a women like "oh darling, that dress is so loud."

Actually, just exactly like my old hairdresser before he retired. That's how imagine Billie Joe when I hear this song and I can't un-imagine it
