Cath
Alright so IDK if this is going to make sense for an unpopular opinion but I'll try to phrase well. I think songs like 21 guns, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Wake Me Up When September ends, and Good Riddance are underrated because they are overrated To expand: These songs are incredible lyrically and are just beautiful pieces, but they became the anthems of 12 year old girls everywhere and became over played on the radio, thus drawing the ire of many other fans. 21 guns especially doesn't get enough credit for being spectacular I believe (from non-12 year olds) totally agree! Wake me up and Good Riddance are part of the songs i listen to the most by GD. same with Minority, Basket Case, WICA, etc..
Insomniac85
21st Century Breakdown was a real grower for me when it first dropped in '09. now I like it alot more than I did then.
Asa.
I wish that their next album will be more similar to 21st Century Breakdown rather than going back to their 'roots' THIS! This. This. This. This. This. I think at point in the game they should stop trying to be what they used to be, and be crazy experimental...like they were with 21CB. Asa.
I don't want overlly experimental You may say that, but remember what Mike says in ¡Cuatro!- "It's worked for us before, so why the fuck shouldn't we do it?"

Z J
I was fast approaching my fourteenth birthday when 21st Century Breakdown was released, and I had been a serious fan (i.e. I knew more than just American idiot) since I was twelve. I had left behind my obsession with Shakira, Avril Lavigne and the rest of modern, manufactured pop music very quickly. I liked 21 Guns, but I didn't find it the most exciting track on the record. I wanted something faster and heavier. My point is, not all preteen or young teenage girls are obsessed with radio friendly drivel. It's a stupid stereotype. Not that I think 21 Guns is drivel, but I suppose that's what you were suggesting. I quite like; it's a good piece of song writing in its own right, even if it was overplayed I knew that this would get misinterpreted. I love 21 guns. I think it is fantastic. But it gets a bad rap b/c it's associated with the stereotype you noted, which is why I feel like people write it off as a bad song if they are more in to Dookie-era green day. It doesn't get the musical merit I think it deserves
Eva
I would like See the Light more if it didn't remind me of Rock and Roll All Night by Kiss. The melody and phrasing are too similar for me, so I find myself singing Kiss's song while listening to See the Light. Before I noticed the similarities, I absolutely loved See the Light, though. 21st Century Breakdown was a real grower for me when it first dropped in '09. now I like it alot more than I did then. Yeah, that's how I was too. I liked 21st Century Breakdown a lot when it came out, but it took me a while to actually grasp the power and meaning behind the music and lyrics. It's a beautiful, fantastic album. I just needed to listen to it more in-depth a few times to really understand it, y'know?

Duhhan1023
Regarding See the light, I find more similarities in the chorus of Shook me all night long rather than Rock and roll all night, that's the reason why I don't really listen to that song. Eva
Idk if this is maybe a joke, but I do not hear at all the similarities with Kiss and See the Light It's not a joke. The chorus sounds exactly the same to me, but with different lyrics. I can't fucking get over it. It ruined the song for me. Which is quite a pity because it is a good song. Clockwise
Yeah, I've known about the similarity since just after the song came out, and I still love it. I don't get how things as silly as that can ruin songs for people.

angry_robot
It's not exactly about Green Day but I think it belongs here. I don't get all the hype around Emily's Army, I think they are really below average and people worship them olny because of Billie's son.

I don't get all the hype around Emily's Army, I think they are really below average and people worship them only because of Billie's son. I have really tried to give Emily's Army a fair chance. They sound more like a lesser version of The Strokes than early Green Day. The song writing isn't very good either, but I suppose they're a young band who need time to grow. They appear to be competent musicians, but their sound is very boring and derivative.

Yeah, they are very young and I'm sure they will grow and write something interesting. But right now they are just meh.
becomes_folklore
I think Minnesota Girl is one of their best songs... well at least if there was a proper recording. This is the best performance I've seenhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDB_vYlQnR Yes me too I have a really crappy version of it on a CD that I think was recorded over the phone to Adie... LOL I love that song so much and that perfomance video was everything! I have never heard another version of it before! My main unpopular opinion is that I love She's A Rebel... A lot of people say that the AI album would be better without it... But then I think.. What would the album artwork look like?? 'and she's holding on my heart like a hand grenade' I also agree with the Emily's Army thing... may I say.
