Cob
I'm very sure Green Day's position in the Hall of Fame is in the bag. This isn't something to worry about. Seriously. They have close ties to the RRHF and 2 absolutely massive major label releases. They're fine.
The Forgotten
Before the Lobotomy is one of Green Day's best songs, I wish it got more attention Too true, the intro/outro has a nostalgic effect on me that no other song can do... The "American Idiot Musical" version tied in with Extraordinary Girl is fucking amazing
Z J
I'm pretty sure GDC used to have a dislike button. I'm also pretty sure it did not turn out well, which is why we don't have it anymore. I think if they had done 21CB at a later time, it would have been a much bigger hit. In my opinion, it was an awful idea to follow American Idiot, a great rock opera, with another rock opera right after it, because everyone, of course, compared 21CB to American Idiot. I think 21CB is brilliant, but comparing it to American Idiot, it's like, "....eh," even though it's fantastic. I think if 21CB had been released when the Trilogy was or even later, it would have had a much bigger impact. My opinion, though, of course. Also, I really wish they hadn't done the whole heavy eyeliner thing during the AI/21CB era because everyone in my generation just thinks they're a bunch of creepy emo 40 year olds who are angsty about politics. Agree 100% with all of that. And to note one of your points in a later post about Green Day being too popular to please everyone, I also agree. They probably have one last hoorah in them until it's greatest hits album time. They would almost need to release one or two more underwhelming records so that everyone forgets about them, then come back again. They are in a tough spot. I will always maintain that Kerplunk is a terrific album. I know I've said this before, but there is a reason it's one of the best selling independent releases ever. Also, Green Day doesn't need another mega-hit record to get into the Hall. I really don't understand that line of thinking. Perhaps I mispoke, they'll get in to the hall I believe. But I think if they could just crank out one more chart topping album, they'd be legendary, and beyond any petty disdain from people who simply see 40 year olds with make up on. Green Day is more than that, and I'd love it if the general public would view them in the same way they do bands like Zeppelin or the Ramones, or artists like Billy Joel and Elvis Costello. Those artists are untouchable legends to essentially everyone, and it'd be nice if Green Day was viewed in the same way.

Mar
Before the Lobotomy is one of Green Day's best songs, I wish it got more attention SO good. I agree; the way it starts is beautiful, Billie's singing makes the lyrics even more haunting than they already are, and then the end of the song? Oh God, it's so powerful. seriously guys. you guys should respect billy more. after all, he was the first person on the moon and plays for the best band ever, blink 182 Never forget:
Hermione
Before the Lobotomy is one of Green Day's best songs, I wish it got more attention YES . One of their most emotionally powerful songs I'd say. That's what I love about that album, the dark personal lyrics along with such ambitious powerful music and newly improved/expanded vocals from Billie that were more expressive then ever before. Beautiful stuff.
musso_kn
Before the Lobotomy is one of Green Day's best songs, I wish it got more attention The outro is fantastic. It just sounds...apocalyptic? Yeah, I literally feel like the whole world could be ending around me when I listen to it: it's that powerful.
stuart telegraph
I think Minnesota Girl is one of their best songs... well at least if there was a proper recording. Never forget: I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING AT THAT PICTURE. YES . One of their most emotionally powerful songs I'd say. That's what I love about that album, the dark personal lyrics along with such ambitious powerful music and newly improved/expanded vocals from Billie that were more expressive then ever before. Beautiful stuff. Before the Lobotomy is definitely my favorite song from 21st Century Breakdown, and probably one of my favorite Green Day songs from the "new" Green Day. The verse, "Well, I'm not stoned, I'm just fucked up. I got so high I can't stand up. Well, I'm not cursed 'cause I've been blessed. I'm not in love 'cause I'm a mess," is one of my favorite Green Day verses of all-time. The whole song is incredibly beautiful, I love the instrumentals, and Billie's vocals are just chilling. Christian sang the eulu-u-ge-ee"
Cath
i really like Before the Lobotomy too. what a great song! and the lyrics are pretty awesome. my favorites from 21stCB would be American Eulogy, 21st, and the Static Age! American Eulogy is by far my favorite off the album thought. there's something about it that i really enjoy more than the others. The Forgotten
Now that I've thought about it, I think I started disliking the song once I started to notice how unnaturally high Billie's voice is in it. Idk, maybe it's just me
