How much do your parents know?

Both of my parents know I like Green Day. My mom doesn't really care for them, she prefers music in Spanish and she's not really all that into rock n' roll or anything like that. My Dad is into Green Day and he's happy that my brothers and I are Green Day fans, since he really appreciates the simplicity of the music and the great melodies/harmonies (I always catch him humming Oh Love and She) and we always talk about the band and the music.

My dad and family know my sister and I are obsessed with Green Day. We have over 50 posters in our room just of Green Day and our whole wardrobe is fulled with Green Day shirts. My dad kind of gives us a hard time sometimes for having too much Green Day merch and saying Green Day doesn't need your money. I feel that we have all of this Green Day merch is because my mom was the one who got my sister and I into Green Day and punk rock, so its like having a part of her everywhere with us since she passed. Even though we did get our dad to like Green Day and he did come with us to Lollapalooza and thought he was going to be so bored, but he talks about having lots of fun that day in the pit. He even talks about it with our family and mentions it more than both my sister and I. He also might come with us to another Green Day concert sometime in the future. :) He likes quite a bit of their songs and tells us if he heard Green Day on the radio, but never remembers the name of the songs since he messes the song names up like he calls WMUWSE September Never Ends. But he knows we care about Green Day a lot.

My mum likes Green Day quite a bit, not as much as me, I'm the biggest fan in this house haha xD Sadly, my dad is a believer in the whole "Green Day died in 1997" quote, hates anything from Warning to Uno, Dos, Tre. I feel kind of sad about that though, he tuts at whenever I'm listening to them or whenever I buy some merch from them :'(

Mine used to get suprised by how much I love Green Day, but I think it wore off when I started travelling further to shows and they realised they had no control over it

Eh, generally they've never made much fuss about it. They both like various songs too, i'm just annoyed they had never heard of them back in the early 90s

Is it wrong that my 6 year old son likes to hear the second song off of "Dos!" that he calls "It's Fun Time"?...

My parent actually listened to them when they were teenagers which is pretty cool. Recently, my dad has gotten into Tre! which is pretty cool as they aren't into Green Day anymore. They like them all in all which is pretty cool.

My mom and dad were (and maybe still are) punks. My CD copy of Insomniac is from my dad's huge book of discs, as is Smash - The Offspring and Mania - Ramones. My mom was at a Social Distortion concert where Mike Ness' guitar was busted up by some douche in the crowd... So, my parents know quite a bit about Green Day, because I tell them about the new trilogy, American Idiot: The Musical coming to my state, and Green Day on colored vinyl nearly every day.

Good Riddance was playing at the grocery store once. My mom thought it was important enough to text me about it :P

My mom will do that sometimes. I could be talking to her and then she'll stop and say "They're playing Green Day here!"

That's exactly what my mom does!

They know pretty much everything about them, and all my other obsessions, I'm always telling them everything that happens (but it was more like this before, they got sick of it hahah)

Not a lot, though they did buy me the cd's when I was younger (without realizing what it was, I'm guessing). However I do get a lot of shit from some friends of mine. Being black, I get questions (from other black people) "Wtf, you listen to Green Day?". Like I'm supposed to only listen to Beyonce or Jay-Z or something because they have my skin color. Fuck that. I listen to real music and I don't care what people say.

Wellll, my dad knows more than my mom, sadly. :( He took me to my first Green Day concert. So yeah, nonetheless, they know I've been listening to GD. :P

My mum used to like them when Dookie came out but then she got obsessed with Blink and The Offspring instead so forgot about them until I started getting into them when American Idiot came out :P I remember when I bought BIAB she watched it first to make sure there was nothing dodgy in it aha. She likes them though and has a wee crush on Billie  She doesn't mind when I tell whats going on in the world of Green Day either!

My step dad on the other hand hates them, I don't know why  he's walked out of a room many times when one of their songs come on. He's said that when I get a car he won't be getting a lift from me because I'll be 'playing that pish band green day' lol. He has admitted to liking the song Jesus of Suburbia but he denies it now when you ask him :shy:

My mom occasionally sends me news she finds (that I already know about). My parents acknowledge I like GD and will order things from Amazon if I reimburse them, but I listen to them alone. My boyfriend hates them. My mom like country music. My dad prefers jazz. If I hear them on an alternative station that happens to be playing around my house for some random reason I'm lucky. I beg my friends to go to concerts with me so I don't go alone (safety more than anything), but I do that with all bands. My love of Green Day is tolerated, but nothing more. I watch all DVDs and TV shows with them alone. That will never change.

My dad knows I like them. He's not a fan or anything, but he doesn't mind.

My mom saw my copies of Uno and Dos and she was like, 'so this is the music you listen to...?" and she opened them and took out the booklets...

Mom: 'i don't give a fuck anyway' 'fuck fucking with my head now' 'makeout party'??
Me: (omg mom really)
Me: (you don't judge a song based on how many 'fuck's there are in it)

Me: (mom plz)
Mom: they look like drug addicts

Me: (tries not to laugh)

Mom: why don't you try listening to some other music??
Me: (omg mom no you don't understand)

yeaaahhhhh but she knows I like them and if I ask nicely they buy me merch online :shy:

Mom: they look like drug addict

:

My mother says the same thing everytime I force her to watch their videos on Kerrang! So I gave in and told her about Billie's rehab and what the name Green Day really means just to shock her. :D

My parents know everything about them. I'm pretty open about things with my parents. My mom loves Green Day too, so she's completely fine with everything that they do. I actually went to my first Green Day concert when I was 13 with my friend and her dad and even he completely loved it.

My dad's a bit less liberal about things, but he respects that I love them and he knows everything as well. It's not really something that any of us feel awkward about.

My mom is actually the reason i love green day. she bought dookie back in 94, a year before i was born so i have been listening to dookie literally my entire life! when BiaB came out we watched it together (i was around 4th or 5th grade) and she really had no problem with it! she and i have been linked for life by not only blood, heredity, or genes but also green day!

Well I started getting into green day when I was in fifth grade! When American idiot came out. My parents knew but didn't care even though I was 10 listening to songs like American idiot or other curse words. When I was in 6th grade they bought me and my friend Nicole tickets to go see them and my dad went with us. I wasn't embarrassed at the time but thinking about it now! Billie humping the stage and doing that masturbation thing he does lol. I also remember going on car rides and listening to Longview And screaming WHEN MASTERBATIONS LOST IT'S FUN in the car but my parents never said anything but NOW i'm pretty embarrassed about it. Being 18 now my mom and dad are REALLY surprised I still like them, they thought it was going to be a phase. My moms cousin (Who bought me GD'S box set for Christmas) was like YOU STILL LIKE THAT BAND?? haha. My older sister is surprised too she use to like green day but for her it was just a phase. Overall my parents are still supportive of me liking Green Day and being 18 I still skip dominated love slave while listening to kerplunk with them around :P

Well, my dad was basically the reason why I am a green day fan. Whilst, he's not a fan but he likes to buy Music DVD. Plus he was in a band while back (Our bread and butter then) and they would cover songs for a living including green day singles like basket case and when I come around.

My parents are really cool with it (even though I am in my 30's now). The still don't know how far my appreciation for the band goes. My dad is my concert buddy and has been since the Insomniac tour in the mid 90's. He really likes their music and we have had a lot of fun going to concerts. My mom likes the more mellower songs, and she'll always give me a strange look when Green Day comes on when we are out and about. She does occasionally mention that she "wouldn't mind jumping Billie's bones". Both of my parents also joke around about some of the concert antics though. They still tease me about the whole fake masturbation as well as the stripping during KFAD on the Nimrod tour (I wasn't sure if I wanted to faint or vomit at that time... my dad was standing right next to me when Billie did that, so I kind of just pointed and laughed). I still get embarrassed by some of the sexual stuff, but I've always kind of been that way.

My dad really likes Green Day. :D I watched BIAB with him last time and he just really enjoyed it. As for the humping parts and stuff he laughed. My mom doesn't dislike any of Green Day's songs, and she never has a problem with songs like Let Yourself Go or Platypus when we listen in the car. :D :D :D
