WrongWayToSalvation
TRE! Is the Most Pop Album of the trilogy and from all the GD Discography iUno! is a whole lot more pop, it's a lot brighter. iTre! is sort of delicate in a way.
Clayish
iTre! has more mature, subtle take on Green Day's classic sound on a few tracks. Missing You, Walk Away, Amanda. Also, when you listen to the album for the first, you have to wear headphones, you won't pick up a lot of the little sounds without them, and the guitars sound a lot more powerful. Word! Cob
Well strictly speaking an artist wants everyone to love their shit, but since there is zero chance of that ever happening even if you're John Lennon and Freddie Mercury's lovechild, mixed reviews is the best you can hope for. Artists want something to be received well by the public of course, but they love stirring controversy in their fan base when they release something. It keeps people talking about them, it keeps people interested. Like Kurt Cobain, he wanted to see how In Utero would divide Nirvana's fan base; sure enough it did. I believe one of the guys from Linkin Park said a similar thing when their last record came out (I wouldn't know exactly, I'm not a fan of their music). Cob
Well according to metacritic, the majority of reviews for AI are positive, while reviews for 21CB are mixed Metacritic isn't exactly the most up to date beast. It was nothing in 2004, I'm not even sure if it was around, and many of the reviews they aggregate for older albums have been face-lifted and revised. Take a look at Allmusic's review of Warning, they admit to changing their score for that album, and they have done it several times. Rolling Stone also "update" their scores periodically. WrongWayToSalvation
Word! Lots of tamborine and great backup vocals. Amanda also has a similar guitar sound to Stray Heart from Jason's channel. Those one note strikes where the guitar trembles (like the verses with just the bass in Stray Heart), without headphones you won't really notice them, but with them it adds a layer to the song. It has like 20 something reviews from all the major publications. Plus, usually the only reason why RS make a retrospective review is if an album has a big impact, so they sort of go with the crowd. Cob
But... The reason I'm making this point is because despite loving the music, I dislike the repetitive choruses in these songs. It's not some universal problem I have with music, so yeah I agree with you, there are plenty of bad songs with interesting choruses. I'm talking about the trilogy songs. In my mind, these specific tracks would be better if they had different phrases in them. Part of dealing with something is forming an opinion about it, which is what I have done. I see and respect your point, sorry for misinterpreting. I disagree, but I see what you're saying. It has like 20 something reviews from all the major publications. Plus, usually the only reason why RS make a retrospective review is if an album has a big impact, so they sort of go with the crowd. They're still not 10/10's is what I'm saying. I was stating how the critical reception and fan reception for 21st Century Breakdown was very different. I don't even know how I got myself into this tangent but I digress. Guest
The Ramones built a career off writing songs like that. The Ramones never professed to have a deeper meaning to their lyrics. But Green Day wrote American Idiot. We have a winner. The Ramones wrote Rockaway Beach which Green Day performed once!! Why the hell is it all of a sudden cool to hate on 21CB? All of a sudden? Fuck, I'm a trendsetter! Reviews for the album were overwhelmingly positive. Fans just accepted it with mixed reception. It's 99 Revolution Tonight!!! Default font and color please. Hard to read otherwise.

muru
Alrighhtt, I listened to ¡TRE! A LOT yesterday, I slept, then listened to ¡TRE! more. I'll have to say it is my favorite album from the trilogy. My fave songs (in no particular order) are Brutal Love, X-Kid and DRB. Goddamn I love Mikes vocals in S,D&V. Sounds so good. Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap
R&B is not R&B. Go listen to some real R&B from the 50's and 60's. He just sounds like a clean version of Kanye West. And please, don't compare "R&B" with Pop Punk/Power Pop, it's like comparing Michael Jackson with Metallica. But if you still want to compare songwriting, please show me one piece of his music half relevant compared to Dookie or AI. Please, show me. Green Day hasn't been around for 2 days and haven't released only these 3 albums, correct? And go read some lyrics of the artists I provided. Jesus Christ, if you seriously are that ignorant about forms of music that aren't on Kerrang there's not a lot of hope for you, and there's clearly no meaningful debate to be had with someone so obtuse. Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap
Wait a sec I'm a bit confused... Why does everyone here love The Forgotten?... Upon hearing it, I thought it was kind of lame, to be honest... I do not think those are great lyrics ("Don't look away from the arms of tomorrow?" What is that supposed to even mean?). I apologize to whomever this may offend I don't think it means anything tbh, I think he just strung a few lines together that had previously been ripped out of the 21st Century Breakdown lyrics notebook.
