Guest DisapppearingBoy
I'm scared to listen to it, in a way. Was not impressed with Dos at all, I've heard the first bit of Dirty Rotten Bastards and don't like it. Been told I wont like the rest of it It's not like dos. It has more catchy hooks, subtle n fun. Malleus
There are better songs, trust me. I'm not much of a DRB fan. It's too busy. Yeah, DRB just sounds all the same to me.
sampy
Also, 24 hours after the first listen, I still love this album so much. Gonna be a Green Day classic for sure. Maybe not in an American Idiot or Dookie way, but a Nimrod or Warning way for sure. Same here. I just can't stop listening to it! It's on repeat all day long For me it tops Nimrod and even Warning. Sure it's on my Top3 Green Day albums, but it's hard to top masterpiece like American Idiot. We'll see.. While I'm loving it already, it keeps growing on me more and more! If you know what I mean It's too busy. Hahah, loved that one! Cute description for this song.
Red Lights Flash
My playlist was on shuffle today, and I must admit.. these songs "breathe" a lot more when they're not placed after each other. Walk Away and Little Boy Named Train were songs that I didn't really like during the album, but when I heard them as separate tracks I thought they were really good. I think the problem with this album is that there are few standout tracks (X-Kid and Brutal Love did keep me entertained) that differ from the rest, but the other tracks are still quite good. DecanoLP
I wonder why they didn't record 99 Revolutions as fast as they play it live. The studio version is so boring compared to the live version... Same problem with Kill The DJ for example.

basKT_case90
I did some detective work and found an interesting fact regarding the lyrics for Gabriella. LEFT: Screenshot of Gabriella lyrics from 'Quatro' RIGHT: Official lyrics for Amanda Looks like some lyrics from Gabriella made it into the bridge of Amanda. Fun fact. Josh100_3
I can't believe so many People didn't like dos! I loved it although i'm obsessed with old school 60's garage music so I guess there's that... Holding off for Tre until Friday and reading these comments isn't making it easy! Jimmy the Kid
I've written my share of songs, don't you worry. I may not be amazing as Green Day, but I know what I'm doing. And at least Green Day's old choruses were WORTH repeating. Hearing "I wanna be your troublemaker" means nothing to me, while the chorus of Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? is deep and it's relatable to A LOT of people. I mean, I guess that's my point, how many of these songs are relatable to us. Lazy Bones? The Forgotten? And man, I feel bad for the child that will have to call you a dad one day, I truly do. Kid, have some humility. I've been in bands for 4 years, I play Bass, Guitar and Drums, I can sing, and "I don't know how to write a song". My bands is releasing it's 2nd EP soon and 5 out of 10 songs from our discography are almost exclusively written by me, but that doesn't mean it's easy or I "know what I'm doing". Oh, and it's Doom Metal, not Power Pop or Pop Punk. To write hooks like Green Day you have to be Green Day, period. You weren't even born and I was listening to Green Day. haveUgotAny
Yep after tons of listens to the album i gotta say it gets better and better. At least to me as a fan since i started to follow their career in the 'Warning' days, it's amazing to see how these guys grown as musicians I know Billie Joe can create much better lyrical content that the one shown is this trilogy but maybe it's not where he is right now, maybe he just wanted to take a stepback and go like: 'oh remember that time? or that girl ? or that friend ? Maybe i'll write something about that And honestly i think that the trilogy it's the calm before the storm. I think there's going to be a big record to follow up. The downside it's that i think we're looking at a AI - 21stCB hiatus for the next thing to come, like 5 years or something
DTH
And honestly i think that the trilogy it's the calm before the storm. I think there's going to be a big record to follow up. The downside it's that i think we're looking at a AI - 21stCB hiatus for the next thing to come, like 5 years or something yup, thats what i think too. i said something about it in the lyrics thread reffering to the dirty rotten bastards lyrics (we sold our souls, etc.): obviously they don't think they sold their souls with signin to a mayor label. otherwise they wouldn't have done it and defended it all the time. it's more referring to the critics who always said: "you sold your souls!". but even though billie doesn't think they sold their souls, he says the band sometimes were ashamed because of that step and maybe because they have done a few questionable things in their carreer. it shows that it just wasn't easy for them and maybe still have an inner conflict. to me thats whats part of the DNA of green day (and billie especially). being torn between their ideals, what they really want to do with their music, between mainstream and their attitude. between arenas and between clubs.... to me thats what albums like insomniac (showing all critics that they don't wanna be mainstream), warning (doing what they want and not giving a fuck) and finally the trilogy (arena rock is over, lets restart with 3 albums) show the most. all of their mayor albums were reactions on their previous albums. the only ones free of it were dookie and american idiot. with dookie no one had expactations and before american idiot everyone thought green day are over. and then they just did what they really were at that time. american idiot was followed by all this stuff which was rectionary again... wearing uniforms, playing a role as the polit punks and finally 21stCBD. and the trilogy was kind of a reaction to that aswell. ditching the politics, where everyone thought what can they do next? they would have to go bigger with every album. but they showed they just wanted to have fun with their music and not force everythign to be big. but at the same time they thought they cant go back from ambitious albums to a single easy pop punk album. no, even though with going a step back in their sound they wanted to top evrrything done before. and now were the trilogy isn't getting the hype and billies problems (which reflect this nearly shizophrenic character of green day and billie), i think the next album will show what they really are again, like american idiot did after warning. don't get me wrong: i love nearly every album (we dont talk about uno), but i think in a phase like after warning without pressure, without expactations they can really show what they are capable of. you may say thats overinterpretating, but thats the way i feel about green day. germanfuzaloo
Okay so I've come to to the conclusion that Jesus of Suburbia is a series of really good songs connected very well to each other, and Dirty Rotten Bastards is like a really good Bad Religion song sandwiched between a Christmas carol/Avril Lavigne song. Angelfuck.
I *like* this album. In contrast, I feverishly loved, loved, loved ¡Uno! and ¡Dos!, even going as far as saying that ¡Uno! was the best album since Dookie and ¡Dos! was the best album since ¡Uno!. This one just doesn't have the same instant, love-at-first-listen punch. To me, it sounds like they used all the last of the juice they could squeeze from the somewhat sterile songwriting formula that's so strikingly obvious throughout the trilogy (Fuck Time sounds like Troublemaker, 99 Revolutions sounds like Lazy Bones, etc). That being said, Brutal Love is beautiful and Dirty Rotten Bastards is kickass.

Guest
Why is X-Kid a favorite? I just want to know reasons. I don't understand why it's such a hit. The lyrics remind me so much of Warning, which is my favourite album lyrically. They're slightly bittersweet, and brutally introspective. Plus, that fucking riff. I've never heard that chord progression used in any other song, which makes it so fresh and amazing.

I just want to know reasons. I don't understand why it's such a hit. I find it to be really well/professionally crafted as a song, along with it being really catchy and meaningful. JDookie
Aw I the only one who keeps swinging to the left and the right while listening to Drama Queen? I can't help doing it!! Anyway, I like very much this album When it starts, you're thinking that it's the "closing act" with a bit of melancholy, then you listen to Brutal Love.. Well, that song is highly effective right there! Plus, I think it's really... a final. So I can't wait to listen to the whole trilogy together!! Plus, I love back vocals in this album (bombs away! ) as well as I do for UNO... Honestly DOS didn't impressed me in this sense, I'll think about it next time I'll listen to it...
