But.... but I know Uno as good as any over older album .... :sorry:

3 Albums are kinda too much and I'm serious on that one. But I DO appreciate them, don't get me wrong.

Just kidding I hadn't noticed anything either in my 23 or so listens to ¡Tré!

What strikes me is that in several of the songs (I think also Uno and Dos) lyrics and music diverge (right word?). Say, they are in contrast to each other. "Brutal Love", e.g., sounds like a soft ballad. But the lyrics are really sad and hurting. Just like Drama Queen. Sounds harmless, nice, almost like a lullaby. But the lyrics again are sad and dark. X-Kid sounds funny, but isn´t. Sex, Drugs and Violence is a harmless, catchy melody, but the lyrics aren´t. And so many other songs seem so ambivalent. Dirty Rotten Bastards is another example. Such a catchy rhythm. So easy, happy, stomping. But the lyrics... tell a different story. Even 99 Revolutions wraps a story about desaster in a happy, catchy pop-melody.

It confuses me. And the more often I listen to the songs, the more often I get the picture of a sad clown. Or it´s like watching a funny scene, and suddenly the laughter sticks in your throat. Weird.

I like the contrast. It´s funny, it´s bitter, it hurts, and it´s beautiful. Anyone who feels the same...?

Green Day have always done that. Basket Case is such a fun, bright song, and it's lyrics are really fucked up. All great songwriters do that, it takes real talent.

It's nothing new, Billie Joe has always done this. The only album that's sound reflects the message is probably Insomniac, something that was done on purpose (as seen with the reason Do Da Da was left off the final track listing).

Yes, you´re right. It´s kinda weird, though. Maybe that´s what brings a certain tension into the songs, as harmless and trivial they may seem at first listening. Just became aware of it ´cause the trilogy has a lot of ambivalent stuff. Think it´s great.

I felt the same with 99 Revolutions. The music is just too happy for me to take the lyrics seriously.

That´s a point. When I´m at a concert it´s the rhythm, the music, that takes me away or gets my attention, not the lyrics for the first part. It´s a bit like a subliminal message... makes it even more spooky...

Definitely works as a stand-alone album, its quality is great. It just blows me away that Green Day actually gave us three whole albums in three months with such high-quality songs. Tre rivals Warning.

I enjoy the first verse of Sex, Drugs & Violence waaaaaaaayy too much... especially the way he sings "like a mistery girl"

It's supposed to sound like a comic song? It's funny how he mixed math, science, etc with the actual lessons he should've learn in life!

Does anyone else interpret the line "It gets so hard when I'm missing you" in the bridge of Missing You as way dirtier than it appears, if you know what I mean? Or am I just a perv?

I could write a paragraph of interpretations like that, but I've come to learn that when it comes to Billies writing, the first thing I assume is almost always wrong.

Just laughed my ass off... :D The funny thing with the lyrics is that they leave room for any kind of interpretation. That´s so great! I love Billies way to play with words, the ambiguity, and meanings on different levels. So it´s the question - who is the perv... :creep:

Wow. I don't even know the song/album good enough to know that he says hey/say/tre at one point. I'm a bad fan.

You're not alone. :(

Can anyone shed any light on these lyrics from Dirty Rotten Bastards?

"Julianna homicide

Make my demons come to life
Well Julianna homicide
I want you to be my blushing bride"

I know what homicide is but what does 'Julianna homicide' mean and does anyone know who Julianna is?

She's mentioned in another line too.

Someone has interpreted it to Julianna Cox from the TV show Homicide: Life on The Streets. I guess it could work, but I dunno.

And to answer to who Julianna "really is." She's probably a girl Billie met a long time ago.

Just now. Kinda weird if you ask me. I wonder if it was planned, or it just ended up that way.

Well, I didn't understand this thing about Julianna at all either... To me it hasn't necessarily need to be a person, could be something else but he called it that way.

It's weird how first is "Jualianna homicide" and then "Jualianna walks on holy ground"; like if this person or thing died but it's somehow immortal. I don't know why I feel it that way...

No...

You mean notice that first he asks the other to stay >> then ¡fuck time! >> then 'she's' missing... ?

I think that Julianna is a projection of a concept. She doesn't necessarily exist in a literal sense. Maybe he was feeling a certain way and decided to "poeticize" his feelings by imbuing them into this girl. Or, he's embodying his addiction to alcohol? I dunno, she kind of feels a little like "Gloria" from 21CBD, kind of a vague character, maybe a person, but more like the embodiment of some idea or personal demon. She's definitely not as concrete a "character" as Whatsername.

Yeah, I would definitely agree that's she's not a "concrete character" as you put it. :)

I don't believe in coincidences.

Actually coincidences doesn't exist so I don't even know why I said that :P

I meant that to me those songs ended up being in that order for anything in particular. But it could be a good story :ninja:

I assumed that Julianna is a metaphor for his own inner demons or something along those lines. I don't think it's a real person unless it's just a different way of portraying the girl from the other songs.
