Sanity Loan
I don't know why, but 8th Avenue Serenade has a really christmassy feel to it. The last part of Dirty Rotten Bastards does to me. Specifically the slowed down part of "Calling all demons....."

I'm glad other people see this too, DRB is the perfect song to Christmas celebrate this year. And then Boxing Day by Blink-182 on the day after. Annie, get your gun
I laugh every time I hear Billie's scream at the end of 99 Revolutions sounds hilarious
EggMong
Just listened to Tré for the first time through today. I was expecting a lot from it and fuuuuuuck. It was AMAZING - and that's just on the first listen! I'm a bit sad the trilogy finished now but we've had 37 songs and I've loved them all. NimrodsWithInsomnia
Yeah, Michael Jackson was an untalented asshole with nothing but his arrogance to show for. Get on topic. I was just joking Sorry, and I like Michael Jackson!
Mike Armstrong
why did you close thiis (http://www.greendaycommunity.org/topic/91674-how-much-green-day-is-in-brutal-love/) thread by pointing to this thread? In my opinion, it's a good question, whether there are hints or not, because they mentioned cooke in the booklet, so start reading before you close threads, it wasn't just about similarities
whatserbmae
It's my favorite album out of the trilogy. I enjoy every song on it! My top three are X-Kid, Dirty Rotten Bastards and 99 Revolutions (Sex, Drugs and Violence a strong number 4). I think 99 Revolutions makes my top 3 most of all because I've seen it live several times and it brings back great memories. Dirty Rotten Bastards is on my Christmas-playlist. It definitely has a Christmas feel to it!
solongfromthestars
I agree that DRB sounds like it could be a Christmas song! Does anyone else feel like it should be a Robin Hood theme tune or part of some other medieval movie, though? That's what I've thought since I first heard it. I get images of guys dancing round in medieval clothes with swords.
Lena549
Can anyone explain the lyric "Daddy's little drama queen is old enough to bleed now" to me? Is it like "she's old enough to have her period now"? I don't get it
Guest
Can anyone explain the lyric "Daddy's little drama queen is old enough to bleed now" to me? Is it like "she's old enough to have her period now"? I don't get it There's been a lot of discussion about this line. Most people see it as a metaphor for the girl coming of age and starting to take responsibility for her actions. Others see it as she's matured enough to take notice of all the criticism she receives, and it's getting to her or makin her "bleed"

Others see it as she's matured enough to take notice of all the criticism she receives, and it's getting to her or makin her "bleed" I think that she is old enough to say no to dad. That's maybe the lyrics.
Guest
I think that she is old enough to say no to dad. That's maybe the lyrics. That could be an interpretation. It would certainly be an extension of the coming of age and responsibility theory.
Sarcasm
I think that she is old enough to say no to dad. That's maybe the lyrics.I've interpreted it as taking the consequences of ones actions like Dog has. Old enough to bleed could also means she's heading down a self destructive path and she's paying the price for it or she's being a drama queen about it, like we see many young cutters be. Platypus2000
Honestly, Drama Queen is such a dark song, it sounds depressing enough, but the lyrics are something else, they kind of disturb me in a way "She's hanging from her necklace"...I can only interpret that as one thing considering the rest of the metaphorical lyrics involved.. Pieces of Truth
Honestly, Drama Queen is such a dark song, it sounds depressing enough, but the lyrics are something else, they kind of disturb me in a way "She's hanging from her necklace"...I can only interpret that as one thing considering the rest of the metaphorical lyrics involved.. it's my favourite, actually. I don't know. The melody has nothing special about it, but I dig it and Billie's voice is absolutely beautiful. The only thing that's bothering me is the she's old enough to bleed now, though I know it's a metaphor . And yes, I also prefer it over Brutal Love. Eva
99 Revolutions is such a poor song. It makes me sad because Billie can write such good political lyrics, but 99 seems like an afterthought. Like an, "Oh this is happening! I have to get this out quick!" That's kind of how I feel. I like the song and I think it's catchy but lyrically I believe Billie could have done better. I wish they had spent more time on it though because I'm really interested in politics and it was a bit of a disappointment after great political songs like "American Idiot." Platypus2000
it's my favourite, actually. I don't know. The melody's catchy and beatiful and I like the lyrics. The only thing that's bothering me is the she's old enough to bleed now, though I know it's a metaphor I've actually come to enjoy it more right now, didn't really like it at first. Thought it was kinda boring and dragged on slightly. But it's grown on me a lot more I mean, it's just dark, there's no other way to describe it haha xD I don't get the hate for the line "She's old enough to bleed now..." to me, it's a line that fits the subject of the song. nothing cringey about it whatsoever, same with the line "English, Maths and Science" in SD&V, I just don't get it :L Nothing cringey about either of those

Bastard of 1969
99 Revolutions for me has almost the same meaning as american idiot or something like that. But i think that 99 revolutions is also mixture of songs from ai and 21cb.
Velocity
The lyrics to Drama Queen come off as a little creepy (intentionally or not, idk), but overall I like the song The music reminds me of Abbey Road-era Beatles for some reason. Annie, get your gun
Dirty Rotten Bastards it's a great song, I wasn't expecting it will become majority's favorite! I like better the first part of it with all the "yeahhh-ahhh" 's but I think it would have been great if they did just that verse then the chorus and again another verse to make it only one song.
