AfterShock
One song that I haven't been able to fall for completely is DRB. Like, it's good and I do like all of the parts and enjoy listening to them, but I don't get the same epic vibes as everyone else. To me, it sounds like a handful of songs (that could've all been stand-alone tracks on the trilogy) thrown into one. Nothing special about it. The other "rock opera" style songs (not saying that this is a rock opera, just using as name for that multi part style) are paced better, and follow a story which gives the fact that they're "operas" a point, but I don't feel that with DRB. The point is that it's one massive jam, I suppose, but that's about it and that idea doesn't really do it for me. This x1000000. DRB is terribly overrated on this site, it's a fine song but a lot of people are making out to be another JoS or something which clearly it isn't, or is intended to be IMO. lucatotti
It's like I'm missing you, but not because I can't have you, but because I do and I just can't wait to see you again. I love that feeling. this! TRE is an album that comes just right in time for me because i recently got "these disease someone called love". unfortunately badly friendzoned. So brutal love is kind of the reality and missing you is how I want it to be. It's confronting but therapeutic. So TRE is for me just as emotional as SOSH/Kerplunk (because I'm in the age to relate to the albums topics blubb blubb) and this is just cool. AfterShock
Yeah, I mean if I hadn't heard the album yet and saw all these amazing reviews of DRB I'd be really disappointed. That's just me though - from the response I definitely don't think it'd be the same for everyone. Agree with you about the JOS thing... Didn't Green Day say it was like the JOS of the trilogy? Maybe they said that because the song's an opera-style track, not because it's anything like JOS in other ways. Yeah I guess, but like you said it doesn't really even have an "opera" feel to it, it just feels like a 6-minute jam. I'm really not getting where people are getting "epic" from. I would just say "fun"

DannyDirnt
Still in love with The Forgotten's lyrics. The line 'as we all go down in history' is pretty emotional, and so is 'like soldiers from a long lost war'...
Hermione
8th Avenue Serenade is so dreamy . I love it haha. Still in love with The Forgotten's lyrics. The line 'as we all go down in history' is pretty emotional, and so is 'like soldiers from a long lost war'... I'm in love with them too, he says so much with such simple but carefully chosen words. "Don't look away from the arms of love" is such a lovely, perfect conclusion to the song and the Trilogy. I think the sentiment of the song is just beautiful. foxboro
Am I the only one who doesn't think the "old enough to bleed" line is creepy? Like, I can't even see how it can interpreted as creepy at all. i can see why people misunderstand that line, but from the moment i first heard back on the 21cb tour i've always felt it's about her finally being old enough to be on her own, take care of herself. If anything happens like bleed (meaning getting hurt by something/someone) she can deal with it herself. I think it's one of the best lines billies ever written

Guest
I don't wanna look like a dirty minded sick dude, but: In Missing You, if you take a look at 'Waking up feeling naked in my clothes inside a room that's vacant' and 'It gets so hard when I'm missing you' the song could get a slight sexual connotation. Mostly the second one because it's like when she's away or something he has his little fantasies? Idk I'm probably just a pervert That intrepretation went into my mind for about a second, and then left. I just think it's Billie pouring his guts out. And it's amazing. Ra da da da de! Yeah, please stop posting random lyrics with no input. It gets very annoying.

stories and songs
I find myself taking the long way to get places just so I can listen to this album for as long as possible on my wonderfully bass-y car speakers. Like, this is a problem. I don't want to get out of my car because I just want to keep listening. Brutal Love, X-Kid, Walk Away, and Dirty Rotten Bastards are my top favorites from Tre! thus far. They're all so gorgeously written and emotional and oh my god. As much as I ADORE the other three, I gotta say, I can't get over Brutal Love. It is STUNNING. Every single time I hear it, by the end of the song it is like the wind has been knocked out of me. Those guitars in between the "bad luck/bad sex" verses are so incredible. I also love the line "Hello stranger, I'm a disaster."

I guess I didn't really mean overrated - I like the song too, quite a bit actually. It's just that it seems like people are giving it this like "epic" tag when in my opinion it really isn't at that level. Not saying I'm right or anything, just my opinion. desertrose
In terms of enjoying the song or understanding the message? If the latter, I would like to hear your interpretation because I'm wrestling with its meaning myself right now Billie Joe had said in an interview that X-Kid was about a friend's suicide. His friend Brando he grew up with in Rodeo, had committed suidice in August of 2009.

Femme Gauche
Dirty Rotten Bastards is (maybe) my favorite song from the trilogy, just because it is so all over the place. I felt like I was getting whiplash from the song when I first heard it... But the good kind . It's because of the way the song is so dynamic and it comes back to itself but in the middle it does something completely different... And just the jaunty vocals in the first run of the "calling all demons" part.
