Heather.
I think digging really deeply into the songs is awesome, but my only issue is that some people really don't make clear that their interpretation is personal - they just state it like it's a fact and then people assume that it is. I'm not talking about anyone specifically but it's just something that I've noticed a lot. Anyway, most of the songs I didn't like so much on Tre have really grown on me. I don't think I'll ever like Little Boy Named Train (musically) but you never know I guess. 8th Avenue Serenade is my favourite. I agree 100% about people stating interpretations like it's fact. It's pretty awesome that you see such an imaginative and fleshed out concept to these albums, but to act like they are officially "that story" in your descriptions and review it as such without emphasizing that this is not necessarily the authors' intent just rubs me the wrong way. I have to say Little Boy Named Train was the first song on the entire trilogy where my first reaction was a complete "Wow... what a waste of time." (And there have been some duds, but I was at least intrigued by most of them). Seriously, I couldn't believe how bland that song was the first time I heard it. Which is why I am as shocked as anyone to say that I LOVE IT now. Because thus far on the trilogy, whenever I've thought a song is mediocre... it's never grown on me. (Most of Dos) This is the first song that somehow clicked after a few listens. I honestly think Tre is better or as good as American Idiot musically. I will probably never like another album as much (though I hope that's not the case) simply because it was so special and formative for me, and the musical really transformed my vision of it in a way that's unfair to all their other albums, but I think the best songs on Tre are as fantastic all-around as the best songs on AI. Sure, nothing will ever beat JOS, but I loved their attempt with DRB. The combo of X-Kid, Brutal Love, DRB, 99 Revolutions, The Forgotten... it's hard to say these songs aren't as good or better than the combo of BOBD, AI, Holiday, WMUWSE.... Cob
I understand that people have different opinions, but it boggles my mind that people think LBNT is boring. Maybe it's just another punk song, but it's a damn good one, and maybe if we hadn't gotten the punk pop love letter that is Uno some of us would like it more. Personally, I love it, it's the only Green Day song in recent memory that has a hop or a bounce, kind of like "No Comply" by the Bouncing Souls. It's not my favorite ever, but that's probably because it is just upstaged by all the other (imo) great pieces present in the trilogy and on ¡Tré!. But I certainly don't find it to be problematic or find that there is anything wrong with it. I enjoy the lyrics and the melody, I like the song. Nothing more to it. I forgot about that. Great meaning too, I think ultimately that's what unites Tre, every song has something meaningful to say or reflects on life. I'm just happy it does it in a more positive way; when a lot of mid-lifed artists make a "reflective" album they tend to get negative and brooding (look no further than Blink's Neighborhoods for an example of that). I absolutely love the song, the melody, the lyrics, the sentiment, etc. but I can't get used to the production just yet. It is by far the cleanest song outside of Amy, which is so strange considering it's an uptempo song. I wish it had a little more crunch in there, like the intro to Oh Love, Nuclear Family, or Carpe Diem.

Yeah, I suppose I agree, I think even a song that could be sad like "X-Kid" has some positivity to it. Most of the trilogy has that... sort of Billie-typical melancholy but there's some hope and openness to it all.

Hahaha It's not exactly a happy go lucky dance party, but it's definitely not dark and angry. I think it strikes a nice balance, although Green Day has always hidden negative meanings in happy, upbeat sounding songs.
Heather.
It's on iTunes now Tre is already #6 on iTunes top 100 albums! Pretty sure Uno never even got that high, and Dos definitely didn't. Hmm. Maybe the truth does prevail after all (Good albums sell...) It's such a beautiful testament to Green Day's popularity that it bounced from obscurity to #6 with zero promo. There seems to have been some commercials this week though for the trilogy as a whole though. It's only #29 on Amazon which is funny because for Uno and Dos Amazon was where all the sales were at. (Dos jumped back to #38 on Amazon too, and Uno re-entered the Top 100 at #59!...) Seems people are picking up the full trilogy now... awesome. There is hope yet, I can only imagine was actual promo could do (AKA just one fucking hit single)

Neon Light
I've actually had the album since Thursday but haven't yet gotten around to sharing my thoughts here. So here goes... Fuck yes. It actually took me a couple of listens to fully appreciate it, similar to a few people here I think, but by the third time through I knew we had a winner. So much diversity musically, the changes in pacing were great compared to Uno where it was just go go go, and the lyrics speak to me on a level I can't really describe. It's not perfect, but neither is American Idiot. So anyway... The Great Brutal Love - Holy FUCK. One of the slowest starts (the slowest?) to a Green Day album ever but possibly the most epic. The horns are perfect, the lyrics too and Billie's vocals are just wow. Missing You - One of my favourites of the trilogy. Catchy as hell, such relatable lyrics. Yes it's classic Green Day but isn't that why we love them? X-Kid - My favourite of the trilogy. There's no other song they've released this year that makes me want to rape the repeat button more than this. Every time the line "you're an X-Kid and you never even got started again" comes on I just want to scream it. It's a great message. And the melody in this song is so awesome. The Really Good 8th Avenue Serenade - I always loved it since the Echoplex and the studio version did not disappoint. I think it would have fit better maybe nearer to the end, it has a kind of closure feel to it. A Little Boy Named Train - Seriously, what the fuck is with the hate for this song? It's outstanding. Tre Cool at his best, and the song deals with some really intense shit if you actually read the lyrics. One of my favourites. Amanda - I think it's pretty cool to be getting a song finally naming this girl he's been writing about since Dookie. Will this be the last time we hear from her? I doubt it. And I really dig the solo, it's not as good as the one in Makeout Party but it's probably the best one on this record. Dirty Rotten Bastards - Has the potential to be great but just doesn't quite live up to the hype for me, whatever hype that was. Very cool song though and the transitions are seamless as we've come to expect. I guess he loves that Shoplifter melody so much that he didn't think it was worth just a B-side. And I agree. I really like how it goes back to that beginning bit at the end and then into "We're carried away". It's kind of like "after all that, you were just getting carried away?" Oh and the solo on this one is also awesome. 99 Revolutions - Love it. That riff is just awesome. Can't wait for it live "99 REVOLUTIONSSSSS" The Forgotten - How I wish this hadn't been released so early. I loved it when I first heard it but I just haven't been so inclined to listen to it since I got the album. Still love the arrangement and the guitar solo. The Good Drama Queen - It's good. That's all though. I wonder how it would have worked on Dos. Not sure. The Average Sex, Drugs & Violence - The only one I skip almost always. Just doesn't do it for me. But I love Mike's part Thanks Green Day
fatherotti
Just bought it and downloaded it on Amazon! But....I'm not listening to it yet. Nope, what this album needs is to be listened to on a long car trip, through my headphones.
tvrman
LBNT grows on you. First listen it is meh, but after awhile when (album) Tre is playing and you are listening, but not really listening (if that makes any sense) suddenly you hear it. Another thing about LBNT is that it definitely is not my favourite track but every time I read the words LBNT I sing it, that melody sticks. In fact I think that melody is a lot better than people give credit for, and IMO it is pure Green Day. And if that isn't enough to move you then Matt's acoustic version (which I am very impressed with) should also make you appreciate it even more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fq0LNkj9eu4 But that is Tre for me, I really like what at first seems like an 'average' track, such is overall quality of the album as a whole. Btw Matt's version is deserving of the GDA front page.

Nzap
DOS is quite clearly my least favorite from these three now that TRÉ surprised me by being at least as good as UNO. I'm pleased with this album. Can't really complain about the few songs that aren't up to par in my mind; Forgotten = boooooooring, 8th Avenue Serenade= not my thing. Everything else is from good (e.g. Amanda)->awesome (e.g. 99 Revs, X-kid).
