Clayish
Are you an actual person with actual well formed opinions or just here to drop snide lines and 'funny' gifs? It's a little irritating. Both.

joeysturkeyhead
And again, I keep hearing 'worst song ever' for Nightlife. Have you people not heard like half of 1039/SOSH? Well, I also like Nightlife, but seriously, how could you not love all (atleast most) of the songs on 39/Smooth?! Yes, you are entitled to your own opinion, but still
SamMacs
I didn’t feel like waiting anymore for the cd book to be sent so I listened to it. I love it! It’s a fantastic album in my opinion and I like quite a lot more than Uno. Got that Foxboro Hot Tubs feel just like they said and it’s great. My favourite tracks are Stray Heart, Lazy Bones & Wow! That’s Loud (it’s pretty weird, the 1st listen on that song I was like meh. And then instantly on the 2nd listen it became one of my favourites) And oh yeah, Nightlife. I don’t know what the hell to think about it. I just can’t think of it as a Green Day song.

Clayish
can i have the actual well formed opinion part please I made a thread about Nightlife the other day but it was closed... not really sure why, but anyways. I really don't understand how anyone can defend Nightlife. Billie sounds kinda cool, in his Networkish type voice, and Mike has a solid bassline in it, but that's where the "good" ends. If this was a Lady Cobra song featuring Billie Joe, this forum would absolutely trash this song. Because it is trash. Lady Cobra's rapping is horrific, filled with just lazy and uninspired lyrics and her delivery is just so poor. I have no idea how you could think that this is better than the heartfelt songs on 1039, that actually have passion in them. I do agree that 1039 has some of their worst material (Rest is real bad), but this takes the cake by a mile. I know it's all opinions and this is just mine. inb4 hate
Clayish
I know (at least) that it's not representative of the whole team. The writer's own opinions clearly took over. It's on the newsletter which you can sign up for on GDA, but here is the part I was talking about: New album in completely expected leak shocker We at the GDA Newsletter headquarters love leeks - a fine vegetable, particularly in soups - but hate leaks. I know there’s not much sanctity ascribed to release dates anymore but it still seems to be a poorer cultural world where the shared communal experience of hearing new tunes for the first time is sacrificed for the sake of the entitled few who cannot resist their urges. It’s a reasonable and probably generous assumption to say the average Green Day fan is 20-years-old. Modern medical advancements mean that each of those people can expect to live for another 55 years, or 2860 weeks. With that in mind, how on Earth can each of those people not wait one week before engaging their ears in new music? It’s impatience gone mad. In any case, those of you not joining us in the leak boycott can listen to ¡Dos! here. For shame. I'm signed up for it, but I didn't get it for some reason. Comic Sans
I love these albums. They're the only ones I've seen the birth, I've saw them growing. I love being a Green Day fan. Marrymebilliejoe
I like it too, but a couple of the tracks on it... let's just say it shows that Billie Joe was 14 when he wrote Why Do You Want Him?. Of course! Because he was 14 when he wrote it! of course it sounds "kiddie" in content because he practically was one xD
Slave To The Network
The only complaint I have about this album is that it's too short. I can't get enough of it and I want it to go on forever! Thank god for the repeat button!

November's Storms
To put it simply: I'm upset our name is attached to that. Who writes the newsletters now, and how much license does that particular person have? The "we at GDA Newsletter headquarters" bit made it sound very collaborative, when I doubt it was. can i have the actual well formed opinion part please To be fair in some threads you've been very short and snappy. localinsomniac
The GDA newsletter's take on the DOS leak annoyed me. It made it seem like those people who chose to download it early were pissing on some kind of ancient, religious ritual. Seriously? It's a bit of music which we're all going to buy on the release date anyway. We're members of a Green Day website because we're such huge fans, so it's not as though it's our goal to exploit the band. According to the article I am the average, 20 year-old fan who has many years to listen to the music. It doesn't really matter what time I choose to listen - I'm actively supporting the band and have done for years. Having spent months anticipating this release after UNO, yes, I jumped at the chance to get to listen to the new material before the time I was expecting. I really don't see what difference that makes in the grand scheme of things. It's not as though me, and the rest of the downloaders were forcing others to listen or stomping our feet and bitching about the date until there was a leak. It happened, so we downloaded it then talked about it amongst ourselves. Big deal. I mean, if the article focussed on how because of the leak, lots of people will be able to access the music for free (exploiting the band) then that's a fair point. Personally, I am going to buy the CD (and various trilogy-related things which come with it, such as concert tickets, merch, etc), because I want to add to my Green Day collection, but lots of other people won't, and that's sad. However, it didn't focus on that at all. I realise that the newsletter isn't supposed to be a serious piece of journalism which is why I'm not bashing it for having opinions - I'm just disagreeing with one which was presented a little more harshly that us downloaders deserved. The only people bitching about the leak are the people who chose not to download it. You don't see one ones who DID listen a week early bashing others about not doing so. Just come off it, please. Getting sick of it. It's a newsletter; should it even be giving an opinion in the first place? Not to take anything away from whomever is writing the newsletter (I'm sorry, I don't remember your name), but their opinion doesn't really belong in a piece that's intended to be informational. Meh, whatever.. I did choose not to download the album, but I could not care any less if somebody else does. You guys go ahead and do what you're going to do, it's just my preference to wait until release day.
Ingrid
Today was the official release date in Norway, so I waited until tonight to hear it, even though I got my 'backup copy' (not the box set one) on Saturday already. Yes, I'm weird, haha. Now I've listened to it straight through three times in a row, which is a good sign already - I practically had to force myself to listen to Uno a second time. If you didn't already guess, I really didn't like Uno at all. I've tried, honestly I have, but now that I have Dos I doubt I'll ever voluntarily listen to Uno again. Sorry, Uno. But I really really like Dos, much more than I thought I would in fact. All the lyrics and themes of the album sounded so incredibly shallow and corny, it had really turned me off the whole thing, but actually hearing it is a whole 'nother deal. It's not perfect, by any means, but such a huge step up from Uno that I'm just really relieved right now! I'm still a Green Day fan - yay!!! I still think Tré will be my favourite of the three, and I really can't wait for that record, but for the next four weeks I'll be perfectly content listening to Dos over and over again. Wild One was an instant favourite of mine, and I also think Amy is absolutely perfect <3 I was worried the studio version wouldn't be the same as the live version that I've gotten used to, but actually I think it captured the same atmosphere in a great way, and it's an amazingly sweet and melancholy ending to such a loud and high energy album. It makes me want to listen to the whole thing all over again. Sorry for the rambling post, but it feels so good to be back - it's been ages since anything Green Day related has made me happy. I'm happy today
Fuzz
The GDA newsletter's take on the DOS leak annoyed me. I'll let Joey reply himself here if he really wants to, but here's my take on it. You don't have to agree with it. I think he made a valid point about the impatience of fans who search out a leak because they don't want to wait for it. So much so that many are willing to listen to a shitty quality of something just for the sake of listening to it 7 days early. It's an opinion, his opinion, hence why he signs off each news letter with his name and contact info. The newsletter isn't intended just to be informational. That's what GDA is for. The newsletter is meant to be Joey's take on the weeks news. He chooses what's important and summarizes it in his own tone. I'm not saying you guys can't be bothered with his opinion - but I don't think there's a wrong or right way for us to present information there.
