¡DOS! Album

Fuck time is holding this album back from being something great. I know Ive already said this many times, but the song doesnt work as Green Day would have liked, its certainly not the band´s best, and if you ask me its actually one of their worst songs up until now in their carreer. I understand why some people think its fun, but to me the real generic and dumb rock song of the trilogy is Fuck time, its absolute nonesense. Im sure im not the only one that shares the same feeling towards this piece of shit song that Green Day have decided to put out.

I completely agree. It just doesn't fit green day and it really shouldn't be on a green day album

I'm afraid Fuck Time is gonna be on my Top 25 most played & if mom notices that.... Mom don't check it plz, plz, plz! :S

( I imagine myself singing " Oh baby baby it's fuck time " & suddenly my mom enters my room... )

I was also a bit of ''afraid'' because of Fuck Time on DOS, it would be a little awkward when we would go togather to shop or something like that and we would listen to DOS in the car and then Oh baby baby it's fuck time. :P But when my parents heard Fuck Time for the first time they just laughed. And I can't stop singing that part: oh baby baby it's fuck time.. And sometimes i also sing it infront of my parents and they act normal and don't even pay attention, so it's cool.

Anyone else notice how Billie's writing grew really darker in Dos? I can't help but notice in his lyrics and correlate them with him falling into some type of possible addiction i.e. going to rehab.

Mike said in an interview recently how the band noticied things were getting bad with Billie while writing the trilogy. Notice in the lyrics

Wild One:

"She, little wild (white?) one, my heart is a chaser (alcohol), she's strung out on razors (cocaine?) now"

Also, I feel like this Lady Cobra might have had an effect on him...

Lady Cobra:

"She just wants to get me high, stick a needle in my eye"

Now on to Nightlife, I find this song to be the most interesting song thus far. I feel like "taking a ride to my old haunt" is going down old roads of addiction. And her lyrics are full of lust and temptation. "I got the thing that you want, the fix that you need, chase this with a little lust and greed".

And as we all know, Amy Winehouse died an addicts' death. Plenty of artists die, but why her? Maybe she was someone Billie could relate to, Billie may be reaching out for help. "Do you want to be a friend of mine?"

Who knows, I could very well be reading into these lyrics too much, but Billie has always wrote down his "inner demons" on paper and made them into lyrics. But I find this installment in the trilogy extremely beautiful, creepy, haunting, and down right f**king awesome.

Thoughts and prayers to Billie Joe, cannot wait until this album comes out.

I'm sure you mean well by expressing your worry for Billie, but I'm calling bullshit on most of what you've said here. Billie's writing isn't really that much darker in this album. Look through lyrics of songs on every album they've put out, there's always dark songs. Even in the concept albums, they're written from a personal point of view. Starting from Dookie through each album; Burnout, Panic Song, Uptight, Church on Sunday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Christians Inferno. All songs that seem dark and if they were on this album you'd be worried.

We're just holding his lyrics under a microscope now to check for clues as to why he's in his current situation.

To say Lady Cobra has had a bad effect on him. She's a vocalist in Mystic Knights of the Cobra, a punk band from the Bay Area. He's been surrounded by Bay Area punk bands for almost his entire life, and having been in the rock n roll spotlight for the last 20+ years, he's probably come across every real life St Jimmy there is. To say this one girl has caused his problems is far too simplistic and unfair on her. I've met the girl, she's crazy as fuck and way too hardcore for my liking, but she seems like a decent person too.

Now I'm getting personal, and this is entirely unrelated to the rest of this post or the thread but praying for Billie isn't going to do shit.

Don't bash Green Day. On a Green Day forum. I love that song. 'Nuff said.

Do you think this would be a good forum if we all just mindlessly praised Green Day all the time? I thought a lot of 21stCB was poor, I've disliked quite a few of their songs and disagreed with some of their opinions. I still love them and consider myself a massive fan. It doesn't mean I can't criticize them though.

On a lighter note I love the few seconds of guitar riff in Fuck Time that sound like an engine revving.

I understand that you don't like this song but on the other hand you are very excessive talking about a song like "Fuck Time" and analyzing so much. It's just a dirty, happy and silly song.

We don't need some pompous analysis. This album doesn't intend to do something like "American Idiot"."Fuck Time" fits perfectly into the overall style of Dos. :shy:

and then "wow! thats loud" is when you finally get that girl, lose all innocence and get to have way with her (with her dress on.)Yes! So far, Dos! and American Idiot are tied for my favorite album's. It almost seems like this album tells a story but I doubt Billie meant it to. It's so complete.

Dos favorites from Best to Worst:

1. Lazy Bones

2. Makeout Party

3. Stray Heart

4. Wild One

5. Fuck Time

6. Stop When the Red Lights Flash

7. Amy

8. Wow that's loud

9. Nightlife

10. Ashley

11. Baby Eyes

12. See you tonight

13. Lady Cobra

Dos Overall Rating: 8.3/10, Uno Overall Rating: 6.9/10

Green Day's Best Records:

1. American Idiot- 9.7/10

2. Dookie- 9.5/10

3. Nimrod - 8.7/10

4. Dos - 8.3/10

5. Kerplunk - 8.25/10

6. Insomniac - 8.2/10

7. Warning - 7.8/10

8. Uno - 6.9/10

9. 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours - 6.55/10

That's actually a good question. Our top fives look similar-ish, and I have to wonder where Dos goes in between the middley albums, Kerplunk/Nimrod and the like. I do think it'll be top five (even if it is the 5 spot) when the dust has settled.

Also, I don't know how anyone can hate the bass on Nightlife.

King For A Day, similarly, is absolute nonsense. And if you hate K4AD, I'm baffled for you.

Fuck Time is a total gag. Can never not laugh at the way Billie kicks into that chorus so sincerely.

See You Tonight and Amy bookend the album in unspectacular fashion

Hmm.

Hmm.

Hmm...

I don't think so. See You Tonight wasn't really intended as a full song as much as an intro (much like Song of the Century), and I think it's a good intro. I suppose technically speaking, unspectacular would be the right description for it, but an unfair one. Amy's a good song too.

With the exception of a few songs, i.e. Wow! That's Loud, Lady Cobra and Makeout Party, I don't think it's particularly spectacular. Uno is much better over all, IMO =/

why?

A decent number of people seem to be giving Nightlife some real hate. While I can understand that people are saying "It's different." or "It's too different." ...that is what Green Day were going for. The song fits perfectly within the party-themed context of the album. It's got this really slow, sexy dance vibe to it--which, again, I believe Green Day were going for. I could imagine this playing in a club--as unlikely as it is--and watching the girls dance to it. (Hell...I'd probably dance, too!) The bass line is incredibly catchy, and I really like the "Green Day Rap" thing. I generally have a deep hatred for modern rap, but Nightlife is so incredibly Green Day...and I think that only these guys could pull off something like this. It's also kind of a way for Green Day to speak out against the reverence that people seem to have for rap/pop these days. Green Day has put a spin on something usually awful (in my opinion) and made it great. I really really like Nightlife, and while I understand that not everyone may feel the same way about it... I think it deserves a better chance and better recognition. Maybe we'll get lucky enough to hear it in a dance club, haha!

What about a clean song with a controversial topic?

I don't get how on the last page some people were saying Fuck Time doesn't "fit in" with Green Day. I don't think that's very accurate at all. Whether or not you think the song is inane and stupid is up to you, but to say it doesn't "fit in" makes little sense to me. Look at songs like Dominated Love Slave, Desensitized, Blood Sex and Booze, and their cover of Knowledge. All these songs have a naughty playfulness/stupidity to them and I think Fuck Time is just a natural progression in that sense. Fits in well with Green Day's dirty side and their "new" sound they seem to be embracing on ¡Dos!.

But, while I do like the song, as a fan it's blatantly obvious that this is a FBHT song and that makes it a bit odd to listen to on a Green Day record. I think it works though.

I am not quite sure about the list of efforts made for recording. Just look at the time that was pent on each. American Idiot was released after four years since Warning, and pretty much the same amount of time they spent on 21CB. I think both should have 9.0-9.5!
