¡DOS! Album

I think the "See You Later" part is directly sampled from Mystic Knights of the Cobra's "Text Messaging Slut". It's exactly the same-

Holy hell, that song is fucking awful. I don't think it's directly sampled, but it definitely is a little reference or something.

With that being said though, unlike the former two examples which are very avant garde, Nightlife is a very dark gritty and eerie tune on Dos that, complete with the rapping, distorted vocals and drums, and minimal guitar, certainly sounds like no song on the album, or by Green Day for that matter. And even though I'm not usually a rap fan, Lady Cobra does give the song a sleezy-sultry feel with her vocal tone. Just some of the lyrics are a bit odd. ("explore your vocal cords?")

Well said Sir. Including the bits I cut out!

I got that impression from Nightlife first time. It's meant to be a dark, sleazy, back alley sex kinda song. It's not meant to be the glitz and glamour of modern day hip hop. The sound might not be very fitting of the album but the tone certainly is.

Just because you don't like rap doesn't mean it can't be good musically or honest and real.

I just think people aren't used to the new songs yet. Dos is much better than Uno. Much less filler more rock more quality experiments. If you like old school gd the best I get why you like Uno better but really those songs aren't any better than JAR or poprocks and coke.

We'll after listening to this album, I really must say: Fuckin' Amazing. Let's make a iUNO! vs iDOS! comparison:

iUNO! (After many listens)

1 - Nuclear Family (8.5/10)

2 - Stay the Night (9.0/10)

3 - Carpe Diem (8.5/10)

4 - Let Yourself Go (9.0/10)

5 - Kill the DJ (8.0/10)

6 - Fell ForYou (7.5/10)

7 - Loss of Control (7.5/10)

8 - Troublemaker (7.5)

9 - Angel Blue (8.0/10)

10 - Sweet 16 (9.0/10)

11 - Rusty James (9.0/10)

12 - Oh Love (8.0/10)

Final considerations: It's a very strong album. The only flaw is that it starts very srtong but soon loses some momentum, picking it up in the end. Still very balanced. Final score (not overall): 8.0/10

Best Songs: Bold

iDOS! (After today)

1 - See You Tonight (9.5/10)

2 - Fuck Time (8.5/10)

3 - Stop When the Red Lights Flash (8.5/10)

4 - Lazy Bones (9.5/10)

5 - Wild One (8.5/10)

6 - Makeout Party (9.0/10)

7 - Stray Heart (9.0/10)

8 - Ashley (8.0/10)

9 - Baby Eyes (8.0/10)

10 - Lady Cobra (7.0)

11 - Nightlife (4.0/10)

12 - Wow! That's Loud (8.5/10)

13 - Amy (8.5/10)

Final Considerations: Better than iUNO!, It has a 7 song streak (amazing), but Nightlife ruins completely the flow. If it wasn't for it i would give the album a 9.0. Final score (not overall): 8.5/10

Best Songs: Bold

In my opinion, an album mixing these best songs would be the best Green Day album ever.

Which musician will say that there are fillers on his album, seriously?

In my opinion, there are some songs on Uno and Dos which shouldn't be released, because they're not good enough.

Black Sabbath (Paranoid), Metallica (Escape)... The bands said it, not me.

Green Day has to come out with "The Best of UNO, DOS, Tre" for all of the almost-fans that don't want 37 songs

Wow! How many kids in 2031 are gonna be able to stand up at graduation and say they were conceived while this album was playing.

I'm gonna need more listens...

All of my children will be able to. Hopefully not all at the same graduation hahaha

Anyway, I'm on Nightlife right now, but holy crap this is their best album since American Idiot. BTW loving Nightlife, sounds kinda like the Gorillaz, and Green Day+Gorillaz=eargasm. Its science

Well, being the weak, pathetic soul I am, i broke down and downloaded it. I've decided that after I listen to each singular track, i'll write my first impressions on them. Here goes nothing.

See You Tonight- If only this song was longer. The guitar is very early bob dylan, and the vocal effects leave a very simon and garfunkel taste, which for a folk lover, is pretty fucking cool. Very Calm, serene opening track to what is going to be a hell raising album.

Fuck Time- This song pretty much sounds like what you would expect it so sound like as studio produced. of course, i like many others will always have a special place in their hearts for the live version, because his voice shows more emotion, and i just frankly prefer raw vocals. that being said though, the guitar sounds fantastic, as does the solo. the laughing and moaning does add to the song, although it can be rather...creepy? ;)

Stop When the Red Lights Flash- This song has so much potential, especially that riff. GOD I CAN'T STOP SAYING I'LL MAKE YOU SURRENDER. The fact that this song is over repetitive is outweighed by how short and catchy it is. The song would've been 100x better in my opinion if raw vocals were used, like on nimrod. however, that hasn't exactly happened since AI, so i'll live.

Lazy Bones- ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SONG OFF OF DOS, HANDS DOWN. The lyrics are so relatable to anyone who's feeling a bit irritable, which is basically me 24/7, being the angsty, horomonal teenager i am. the best part THERE IS NONE. I can't decide between mike's backing vocals (i assume it's him), the drums in the beginning, or the strokes like guitar tone, OOH or the stop...yeah, i don't know. it's just amazing, ok.

Wild One- I honestly don't understand why so many people don't like this song. It's so..relaxing. Billie's vocals are exceptional in this, and i love the delayed, trippy guitar feel. the solo is also one to note. maybe it could've been better if it was a little shorter, who knows. i personally like it at it's current length.

Makeout Party- Wow. Well, i'll get the small bit of criticism out of my system first. The lyric are a bit juvenile, something that NME did touch on, and I kind of see what they mean by so. But then again, that's kind of the whole point of the album, so that aside, HOLY FUCK. You can tell that Billie, Mike, and Tre are really getting better and better at their craft. Billie's solo feels so on spot, which is something that's appealing to me. Mike's bassline speaks for itself, but the hidden gem here is Tre.

Stray Heart- This song feels kind of out of place after makeout party to me. After some intense action, it's kind of weird to go from "FUCK ME NOW" to an almost "I want to hold your hand feel". It's like a transition from FBHT to the Beatles. That being said though, it is a pretty generic bassline, but it's a damn good bassline. I've already heard this song a bunch, so it's a pretty obvious thumbs up for me.

Ashley- Hm, like someone said earlier, this does resemble kind of a Saint Jimmy b-side, because it's lacking in the lyrical depth that SJ has. This is a fucking great song to mosh to though. It leans towards filler, but it's fun filler, y'know? It really does give off the vibe that was being paired with dos. (the backing vocals for thi song is really peculiar, it sounds like someone's imitating how the adults sound in charlie brown. i don't know, it jut stuck out to me, ahaha).

Baby Eyes- This song sounds very American Idiot, with the guitar tone. Like Ashley, it's another fast song that's fun, but not something remarkable. Something that did kind of catch me off gaurd was when he said I was born to....kill. i thought it was going to be born to love you or something. whoops.

Lady Cobra- Love, love, love. This is another really fun song that again, doesn't have a ton of lyrical depth, but that's not what they were aiming for. I think the drums are the key formula for this song, it's so addicting, and of course the guitar riff that won't leave my head. WAHWAHAHWAHWAHWAAHHHH.

Nightlife- This song is trippy, weird, and awesome- before lady cobra comes in. Something about her is unmistakingly cringe worthy. I think for me she comes across as a Ke$ha wannabe- sleazy, cheesy, and a horrible excuse for a rapper. I applaud them for trying to expand their horizons, and in all honesty, it was a pretty good idea. if they got an someone better to do her job, it would've been sooo much better. The bassline is the only real thumbs up for this song.

Wow! That's Loud- This may be one of my favorites off of dos. Ever since i heard that crappy live version from a few years ago, i've been in love with it. I's definitely advanced musically. Even I, being the avid lyric stickler (as shown in earlier songs) I will not like a song even if it has a great instrumental part, because of stupid lyrics. This song may not have the deepest meaning ever, but fuck it. That guitar solo, the bass solo, the drums, vocals...take me my dark lord.

Amy- This is one of my favorite green day ballads, especially because wait...IT HAS A REAL MEANING! Yay. It's such a heartfelt, real song. Billie displays his sorrow and guilt over Amy, saying how if she was still here he'd love to get to know her lost soul, and you can feel it in his voice, his passion is evident. Love the guitar- i think this song is a great ending for dos, because it kind of backs away from the sexual tension and whatnot to contemplate something his soul feels. Or...something along those lines.

Overall, SO much better than uno, which i listened to about twice and grew tired of. I can tell that songs like Lazy Bones and Amy are going to be perminant additions to green day's ever-expanding catalog. I'll give it a 8/10, comparing to what i thought of uno as a 6. just wait, tre is going to be the show stopper.

or because the idea of the rap and the rap itself is cringeworthy.

did you ever listen to public enemy, cypress hill, old skool stuff like sugar hill gang, or a lot of clash songs which conain rap (magnificient seven, this is radio clash, lightning strikes)?

or crossover rap? beastie boys, rage against the machine, red hot chili peppers?

so much good rap out there, you probably just heard the radio crap.

the rap in nightlife is far from being good, but the rap in there doesnt want to be good! its funny, ironic and fits the song. i like nightlife.

agreed, before i really got into rock, i was a huge rap fan. i mean, i wasn't a huge lil wayne person or anything like that, but more like classic rap, along with some crossover rock-rap like rage against the machine and the beastie boys.

Yeah but they admitted those as filler years later after the fact they dont count lol what artist during an album promo says a song on the album is filler?

I think Kill The Dj would've fit better on Dos and Stray Heart on Uno

Now that you say this, I could definitely get behind this. Stray Heart seems almost too happy for Dos, and Kill the DJ has darker lyrics to fit with the rest of Dos. Good call.
