Lol funny how those are coincidentally my 3 least favorites in the album (I kinda like them though, specially Lazy Bones, I don't mine Baby Eyes and kinda dislike Ashley a bit)

Same.

Does anyone have the Japan bonus track? I can't find it ANYWHERE!!!

Bump

I love Wow That's Loud the distortion noise reminds of Nirvana's Endless Nameless or the end of the concerts jams they'd perform

It makes me think of when I saw Ween. The end of almost every song turned into about 10 minutes of jamming. It was wonderful.

I thought Dos was really disappointing. I've listened to it a few times and mostly it just doesn't connect with me unfortunately. Stop When the Red Lights Flash, Baby Eyes, Nightlife... Just too many songs that do nothing for me. That's just me though and let's be honest it's taken ten albums for them to release an album I haven't been fond of.

On the bright side there are some great songs. Lazy Bones, Wild One and Amy are all great. I quite like Wow That's Loud and Fuck Time too, plus See You Tonight is ok for what it is. I'm on the fence about Makeout Party and Ashley. I reckon Tre will be the best of the trilogy. Drama Queen, 99 Revolutions and The Forgotten are all terrific.

Agreed with this completely, a lot of this album just doesn't do it for me...found myself skipping a lot of tracks each play through, pity! :(

But then others ilke Wow That's Loud + Fuck Time as the above poster said, are completely awesome. :ninja:

My mum demanded DOS! from me this afternoon. It's only now I've had it back, she said it's brilliant and her favourite on there has to be Stray Heart! Aww.

Different strokes for different folks! Why do you dislike Ashley though?

I don't know. My opinion might change when I read the lyrics, but I just don't like the overall sound of the song.

These lyrics from Quatro kind of seem like discarded "Wild One" lines, no?

Seems like it would fit, no?

Is Stop When The Red Lights Flash like a Fuck Time kind of song...? 'cause I have my doubts there...

Alright guys, after a good long while, I think I am ready to give my review on Dos.

See You Tonight - 8/10: Honestly a solid way to start the album. The vocals are very haunting and stalkerish. And it leads perfectly into Fuck Time.

Fuck Time - 9/10: This song is basically as the title suggests. It's fuck time. Perfect party song that's sort of has that Rock n' Roll feel to it. Very dirty and fun.

Stop When The Red Lights Flash - 8/10: One of the more boring tracks on Dos. It's a nice fast song. They could of elaborated more on the solo, but other than that, it's a pretty good track.

Lazy Bones - 10/10: Fucking Awesome. This song is both instrumentally and lyrically genius. I really love this song a lot. From the main riff, to the pause before the solo, to the lyrically loud chorus. Just an overall great song and probably the best on the album IMO.

Wild One - 10/10: Another fucking awesome track. The lyrics in this one are so deep and the references Billies blew my mind away. The guitar solo is awesome and flows perfectly with the song. Another overall great track.

Makeout Party - 10/10: Now here, we are getting deep into this dirty fucking party. This song is so fucking perfect. It's honestly the track on this album that makes it seem like a party. Just a dirty, filthy song with a fucking awesome guitar solo and an awesome bass solo. And it's also my personal favourite on the album.

Stray Heart - 9/10: The album's lead single. This song is very good. A nice dancy, pop-driven song. I kinda overplayed it when it came out as a single, so I don't listen to it as much, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a good song.

Ashley - 10/10: "I taste the cigarettes and liqour on your breath. We used to call it speed, but now it's crystal meth." Fucking awesome lyrics right there. Just a nice fast punk sounding song. And probably my second favourite on Dos.

Baby Eyes - 8/10: This song is alright. Never really got into. The guitar riff sounds like something that would of been off Green Day's unreleased album, "Cigarettes & Valentines". Lyrically, it's a fantastic song though. "I am the cherub in the arab spring. I am the bullet in your magazine". Love that line.

Lady Cobra - 10/10: This song is fucking crazy. Another song that loudly states that this is a party record. Just a nice, messy song with a crazy guitar solo and that Rock n' Roll feel to it.

Nightlife - 6/10: I really don't like that GD tried to mix R&B with themselves. This is definitely the low point on the album. The only good thing about this song is the brief guitar solo. But who knows, it's grown on me a little. It may grow more overtime.

Wow! That's Loud! - 10/10: This is where you're deep into the party and you cannot get out. Reminds me of the song, "27th Ave. Shuffle", by Green Day's alter ego band, The Foxboro Hot Tubs. Again, another fucking awesome guitar solo from Billie, and those in your face lyrics. Also, dat interlude. Enough said.

Amy - 10/10: This is where the party has settled down and everyone's looking at the mess that they've made. This song has a perfect raw feeling to it, and it's also the perfect way to end the party. And I'm assuming it's a great track to lead into Tre as well.

[review]

I can see you really hate this album .

It's not R&B; it's rap ;). Some might say not very good rap (I am of no opinion as I don't really know much about the genre), but. Other than that. Nice (very positive, lol) review.

These lyrics from Quatro kind of seem like discarded "Wild One" lines, no?

picture38t.png

"She's my favorite color now" Ooh I kind of like that. Kills with kindness, kissing mindless, nice. But... I guess it kind of would take the song in a different direction (lyrically).

This album keeps getting better and better for me. I started off only loving Lazy Bones, Stray Heart, and Amy. Which are still my favorites. But I feel like every time I listen to it all the way through, I pick up another song that I really love. It's a solid album - much more solid than I initially thought. The only songs I really DON'T like are Makeout Party and Stop When the Red Lights Flash. Guess I'm not into the garage rock thing. Everything else is great, though.

OK I decided after reading so many reviews on here that I hugely disagreed with, I thought I'd do my own. For those of you who are fed up with these personal reviews I've put it in spoilers. Also I didn't expect it to be quite so long.

1. See You Tonight - 6/10

Simple intro track, has a nice sound, Billie-Joe doing his own backing vocals is a refreshing change up, but it doesn't exactly go anywhere. You could even not give this a rating, you wouldn't think of giving an interlude on a rap album a rating out of ten, it's there to make the overall album experience smoother rather than stand on its own two feet. As has been mentioned before though, the two Billie-Joe solo demos bookending the album give the songs in between an added "snapshot of a night" experience.

2. Fuck Time - 8/10

This has polarised people but I think it does its job extremely well. Unbelievably crass, big dumb fun. They've been around long enough in my opinion to justify making something so obviously silly. The first of the many catchy choruses of the album.

3. Stop When The Red Lights Flash - 4/10

Catchy chorus, absolutely nothing else going on. It's definitely a 10 minute job. One of the songs on the album that by itself says absolutely nothing however when they all add up they give it the rock 'n' roll party atmosphere everyone has been talking about.

4. Lazy Bones - 9/10

Best song of the trilogy, one that is a perfect marriage of the tried and tested Green Day formula and a slight twist on it. The atmosphere on it as well as the fact that it is hugely similar to two American Idiot era songs (when they were really on their A-game as a band) give it a sense of urgency that songs like SWTRLF or Makeout Party just don't have, and Green Day to me sound best when there's that feeling of "Billie-Joe absolutely has to get this feeling out in a song somehow". I think maybe that feeling is lacking in a lot of the trilogy songs and I can understand why, they don't have anything to prove as a band anymore, so whilst I have quite enjoyed the trilogy I definitely understand why people don't.

5. Wild One - 7/10

I think this one and Lazy Bones work really well back to back. I like the chord progression and bendy riff, it's fun to play on guitar. Other than that, it's a good album tune and I suppose it adds to the sense that something could and will go over the edge, particularly with lyrics like "I jumped on the grenade, all of my mind's gonna blow".

6. Makeout Party 5/10

If it wasn't for the second half of the song I'd put it straight in with Stop When The Red Lights Flash, Baby Eyes and Ashley but the guitar solo and subsequent bass interlude gives it something extra, acts as a neat "catch your breath" kind of moment in the album. The lyrics are pretty terrible but the point of the song is fairly obvious and the lyrics do not need to be inspirational or anything. Should work quite well live.

7. Stray Heart 8.5/10

A real highlight, it's a perfectly formed pop song with yet another brilliant catchy chorus. The bassline is tried and tested but hey it works. I actually think the 60s influence on the album has been overstated, but this and Wow! That's Loud have quite obvious 60s reference points. I like the lyrics too, they're simple but they have a kind of over-sweetness that I'd imagine someone in that situation would have if they were trying to seek forgiveness for "losing their way".

8. Ashley 6/10

This has some good lines, but is otherwise standard middle of the album Green Day. "You're looking like hell and you're no fucking saint" is one of my favourite lines from the album and I like the general bitterness theme. Someone said it sounds like the Powerpuff Girls theme, which sadly I can't get out of my head now.

9. Baby Eyes 6.5/10

I said this one sounds like the b-side of St. Jimmy when I first heard it, but now I'm veering towards calling it a better version of Christian's Inferno. I can't stand the line "I was born to kill" but the rest of it is alright if nothing to write home about. It's short and sweet and doesn't outstay it's welcome like it would if it was on Uno where most of the songs seemed to go on a chorus too long.

10. Lady Cobra 7.5/10

Another short one that I really like by itself but it does kind of function as an intro to Nightlife. It's energetic and fun to play on guitar and to be honest Lady Cobra's best contribution to the album is her laugh that starts the song. Which brings us to...

11. Nightlife 4/10

Had the potential to be a great weird Green Day track but instead of being the next Misery it dies on its arse because Lady Cobra's rap is so bad. I don't consider myself a connoisseur by any means but I've listened to enough rap to know when it's terrible, and this falls into that category. Which is a shame because the atmosphere of the song is superb and hugely different to the rest of the album whilst still maintaining the decadent, sex drugs and rock 'n roll vibe.

12. Wow! That's Loud 8.5/10

This keeps getting better for me, it's like a combination of The Who's My Generation and the strings part near the end of the same band's Baba O'Riley, but transformed into a high pitched guitar riff and later into a brilliant combination of guitar riff and backing vocal melody. Yet another catchy chorus, and one of the best songs on the album where the full band gets to have some fun. The solo is definitely one of Billie-Joe's best, about time he stopped playing the same two licks and did some tapping! The only one of the album I haven't figured out yet actually.

13. Amy 8/10

As a tribute song to an artist as brilliant and famous as Amy Winehouse this could so easily have gone wrong, but it's beautiful and whilst I hate to use the word "heartfelt" I really feel as though it is brilliantly honest about Billie-Joe's feelings about her, the image of her he had in his head and how that all relates to his own state of mind. It manages to rhyme off enough references to her persona without seeming like a cash-in, and the song also has a point beyond simply expressing sadness that she died. I should also add that I really didn't like it from listening to the CSI recording of it but when I finished the album for the first time I had a complete change of heart.

Overall Impressions

It has one or two clunkers and a few tracks which could be dismissed as filler, but add it all up and you have an enjoyable album that does what no other Green Day album does. A few outstanding tracks (that all sound completely different I should say) sprinkled on top make it in my opinion a more essential addition to Green Day's discography than Uno, although I appreciate Uno is maybe more consistent. I expected this to be my favourite of the three and I think it will still be that when Tre comes out. I love garage rock and I think Billie-Joe's knack for choruses that stick in your head give it a decent twist.

This news is a bit late but Stray Heart has climbed into the number 1 spot in this weeks Official Kerrang Rock Chart :D

http://www.kerrang.com/blog/2012/12/the_official_kerrang_rock_char_28.html

Thanks for posting - this is the first I've heard of the song having any kind of success.

Any Canadian fans feel free to correct me but I don't believe any of the songs from the trilogy have made the MuchMusic video countdown yet. That's not saying much since its more pop oriented but strange none the less

Kinda like Rusty James, I don't understand why everyone loves Amy.

Amy is a song that should have been a b-side, like I mentioned before there are a handful of songs already off the first 2 albums that are good but not shouldn't and wouldn't have been released as a-sides if it was a regular album. The funny thing is, we would probably like them more as b-sides but released on albums they get a negative vibe as not being worthy so to speak.

¡Dos! is an awesome album! I love the tracks like: F**k Time (I don't get it why a lot of people doesn't like it, just rock'n roll!!) and Makeout Party is awesome. Can't wait for ¡Tré!, I hope the album is just as crazy as Tré himself xD
