jacknovella
they said once in an interview that billie had all the lyrics written that he sings, but they were too short for a song and then he asked Lady cobra if she can fill the gaps because thay wanted to colaborate with her. so it looks like she wrote her parts. maybee someone knows the interview In the booklet it says 'All words by Billie Joe Armstrong.' It then goes to credit Lady Cobra for vocals on Nightlife so I'm not sure...

Todd
haha interesting, I really like the song, but I've read of others who can't stand that riff. Reto? that song sounds so weird haha :P/> I just checked on my iTunes and I've never even played that song haha I'll give you 10 theoretical dollars to listen to MM2020 in full
DannyDirnt
NIGHTLIFE - TRAINWRECK. 0/10. OK but seriously, I praise Green Day for trying something so out of the box but this is one of the only songs where Green Day's failed at executing a new idea really well. Wait I know why, because Billie only sings 25% of the song. The other shit is some chick Lady Cobra rapping. (You can barely call it rap it's so bad.) Even Billie's parts annoying with the delay and distortion. The bass riff is only thing decent thing about this song. Like I said earlier, TRAINWRECK. 1.5/10 This is totally unfair. What's the point of Green Day making a dance-able rap song collaborating with a rapper if Billie Joe is gonna sing everything as usual? You can 'barely call it rap' because it's still punk rock, but with a rap touch in this song. Billie's voice isn't annoying, it has a dark effect that fits the song and it's there to enhace the atmosphere of the song. I'm seeing Nightlife is one of those songs that you can either love or hate, but one doesn't simply not mind it. And here's my top 5: 1. Makeout Party 2. Nightlife 3. Wild One 4. Fuck Time 5. Mr.Whirly1988
I don't know if there's a comparison at all, but when I first heard Lady Cobra, it kind of reminded me to Detroit Rock City This is totally unfair. AlissaGoesRAWR
Reto? that song sounds so weird haha I just checked on my iTunes and I've never even played that song haha I think it's just the lyrical structure, how there's a name that constantly gets repeated. Not necessarily the music. I have no idea why, but that's the first thing that came to mind when I heard Ashley. What does the reference to the Kool-aid mean? I just realized it is the name of a kind of drink that I have never tried (I doubt it has ever been selled here in Spain). Check this out to be enlightened like I was: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drinking_the_Kool-Aid It blew my mind. I really had never heard that phrase before. DannyDirnt
I like how in Amy the 'Amy don't you go, I want you around' sounds similar to the line 'It's not considered stealing, unless you're getting caught' in Shoplifter. Not a bad thing, I like it. Also that kinda sounded to me perfect for a medley.

But the good thing is I don't agree with most But the one between Amy and Shoplifter is very big, it's the same rythm. But I love both Shoplifter and Amy Are 'Wow! That's Loud!'s lyrics good? The 'Wow that dirty dress is so loud' line makes me think the song is about girls that wear slutty clothes. I don't really feel like looking them up, I prefer reading the correct ones in the booklet when ¡Dos! arrives.

I never noticed even though they said that Amy and Shoplifter had similarities. The only one that I've noticed immediately was "American Eulogy" and "Deadbeat Holiday". Guess I'm not so good at that. And I don't really mind doing that, but it shouldn't happen too often.
Heather.
Is anyone else's least favorite song on this album Makeout Party? I see how it's 'cool' and super garage-y, but I just really don't like it. Even though it's more imaginative than SWTRLF, it doesn't do anything for me, and at least that has a catchy nature to it. I can't really sing along with any parts of Makeout Party, and the "kiss me there" part is kinda meh.

I can't really sing along with any parts of Makeout Party, and the "kiss me there" part is kinda meh. That's the only song I skipped on my last two listens. The lyrics feel way too forced for me like they sat down and said we need to write a party song instead of letting it come naturally. Also the guitar makes me think of an iggy pop song, I think I haven't bothered to look into it.
Femme Gauche
That song amuses me greatly, it seems pretty natural to me but *shrugs* Also I like the riff as a song I think it's sexier than Fuck Time .

Virtue
Um,I'll give my personal review and take on the songs. (Be advised this is only in my opinion,I respect some of you may disagree, but hey,It's music) This is also my first review,So it is going to be missing i'm guessing "Proper" reviewing techniques, or in better terms suck. So bare with me. Without further ado. See You Tonight-9/10 This song is the perfect way to start of the album,a smooth one minute piece before throwing you into a totally crazy party.Reminds me of "Song of the Century" from 21st Century Breakdown.I hear some John Lennon influence and it hooked me right on the first strokes of the guitar,The song is short and sweet. It gives a small aura..Like your preparing for a party..and then all the craziness comes into Fuck Time.Simply love it. Fuck Time-9/10 When I first heard this song,It was a Foxboro Hot Tubs song, but I understand this song is alot more fun to listen to when it's live. This is the song that makes you feel like you just entered the party, and trying to get used to all the craziness around you.(The aura of the song) The way Billie sings it is perfect (When is it not?) By the tone of his voice you know that this is a party,It feels like a blast from old rock. The lyrics fit exactly as it's suppose to as well.No "Full hearted feelings" just screw it,It's Fuck time! the lyrics along with the tone really makes the song stand out to it's name. Stop When The Red Lights Flash-7/10 I first heard this song during sound check at the Red 7 Concert in Austin last year in November. It's not one of my favorites, but It's catchy.Normally repetition will make me hate a song, but "I'll make you surrender!" (X4) doesn't annoy me,but more like rock my head back and forth,It's witchcraft I tell you,but I do feel this song was missing something. It just felt kind of...Well,I'd hate to say dull, but plain? The guitar,Yes it is catchy, but it felt like it was just built upon,Like a filler song.It feels like a B-Side to me. Either way,I did like it.As in for the party concept,it feels like you're about reached the Alcohol and ready to go crazy. Lazy Bones-10/10 The lyrics of the song make you know straight that this song is written from Billie's heart,It's not just one of those songs he writes for the "funz". This song demonstrates the lyrical genius Billie is,The contradicting lines in the verses "I'm too tired to be bored, and I'm too bored to be tired" just mind fucks me. As for the instruments,The chords remind me of influence from "Give Me Novacaine" and "Favorite Son".It is one of my favorite song off the album. The drums..Well,It's Tre Cool, nuff said. The background vocals though during the chorus..Holy Shit. When I first heard this it gave me goosebumps, and that 5 second silence after the solo? Just..Perfect.. Wild One-9/10 At first when I heard the instrumental in the beginning of the song,I was unsure what was coming, but when Billie started singing. That's when shit goes down,I personally think the lyrics are talking about joining a cult? Anyways,This ends up being one of my favorite songs of the album. The instrumentals are well timed,As in it amplifies the lyrics.I'm not sure if anyone will get it,my favorite part of the song is the very end of the chorus. "Now that my minds gonna blow... Hello" it feels like it punched you right in the face (Good thing) It's Epic. Makeout Party-7/10 I really have no words to describe this song..It's so crazy,it's catchy,It only gets a 7 because it feels like one of those songs I won't have on repeat. It sounds good while it's Fresh, overplay it and it'll become a bit "Meh" Stary Heart-10/10 I heard the sample of this song at the Tiki Bar..and then finally the full version at Red 7. It has that old rock influence in there, and is also one of my favorite songs of the album. When I first heard the studio version, I literally felt so many emotions,it was the most epic thing I ever heard. The lyrics are clever, the instrumentals epic. Ashley-10/10 All I have to say. The first time listening to this,I was listening to Stray Heart while walking to school, and after the song ended,I heard "ASHLEY!,ARE YOU RUNNING..." which scared the living crap out of me because my head phones are normally very very loud.At first,I thought I wouldn't like it.due to the repetition, but after a closer listen or 2.I was practically screaming. "ASHLEY! ASHLEY!" Baby Eyes-8/10 To me,This is very good song,I can see the many influences in this song,Dat old rock. "Oh Baby,Baby I was born to kill!" Lady Cobra-9/10 2-4 Chords...And 2:05 Minutes of awesomeness. Nuff said,This song feels like you met a girl at the party, and you're getting ready for a crazy time. Nightlife-5/10 (At the party,I'm guessing it feels like you took the girl to a private place for sexy time.) Now I'm sure anyone who is reading this review, whether the read the whole thing or not at least came to see what I had to say for Nightlife. I actually liked it,believe it or not.Billie's chorus is catchy but adding so many effects to it makes it hurt my ear at first. This song could've gotten a much much higher rating if Lady Cobra would've written better lyrics.I don't mind rap,but her lyrics are so bad it's almost comparable to Niki Manaj.I mean, "You better make a move, before I get bored"? What the hell? Is she even trying? Though if I DID listen to this song without caring about the lyrics it would've gotten an 7. And the reason it would've been a 7 is because of Billie's voice being over edited. I had high hopes for this song,It could've been so much better I do have to admit though,It is growing on me. Wow That's Loud-8/10. First heard this song at Red 7,Honestly I love the song, the beginning hooks me straight on.Though I first thought this song would be about Turning the music louder or something like that, but ended up being "Wow that dirt dress is so loud." which only made me go "O_O".Hearing this song live amplifies it's awesomeness. It is one of those songs that I personally think are better live.It is the perfect song to close the party,As this is the last crazy song of the album. It feels like that final "Push" of a party feeling. Amy-10/10 No comment. Overall 9/10 The album was as epic as I anticipated it,I am looking forward to Tre..I feel Tre is going to get the 10/10 Whether you liked this review or not,I still want everyone to try to think of the songs like you're going through a party,Once you see it,You'll be going " That's awesome"

lucatotti
Once again, mind blown. I don't pick up on a lot of this stuff until after people mention it. Like Lazy Bones being a mesh of Favorite Son and Give Me Novacaine. That one made me sad. Still love the song though. Amy is a mashup of 'Shoplifter' and 'Walking Alone' from Nimrod. When I first heard it I didnt like it, I was like "Wow, very unoriginal" because it was so obvious. But the more I heard it and the more I got the (whole) lyrics I got used to it and now I'm thinking it's a beautiful song.
