¡DOS! Album

I also, for some inexplicable reason, am amused by/in love with the way he sings "kool-aid".

Also, if you know what the reference means, it fits perfectly with the next line, "I jumped on the grenade", signifying deliberate self destruction.

Well, fuck. I had no idea. Guess it's not as "commonly used in the United States" as Wikipedia would like us to think.

It's one of those things where after you've learned about Jonestown Guyana (which Generation X and older is very familiar with, aka Billie's generation + since it happened in the late 70s), you get the reference, but it's not something people are just gonna start saying casually

So he says he believes in her even if she is self destructive yet he becomes self destructive in her presens?

Perhaps. Seems kind of like someone you're so devoted to, you are willing to lose yourself.

I've heard the drinking the kool aid before usually around older people

I love Wow That's Loud the distortion noise reminds of Nirvana's Endless Nameless or the end of the concerts jams they'd perform

Maybe I'm weird, then, cause I definitely had heard that expression before.

Yeah, it's a good song, it's just sometimes the riff is a little, like... well, the sound fits perfectly to the title of the song.

Is anyone else wondering how Green Day is going to do Nightlife at concerts without Lady Cobra?

That's exactly what I said too. I appreciate them both, but ¡Uno! has more long-term playability and ¡Dos! has more polarizing tracks that stand out, whether they're really good or really bad.

Really? I don't like Tré's picture at all. Something about the way it's shaped... I dunno, it looks awkward. I think the other two look fine. (Although I remember when they first released the ¡Uno! artwork I was like, "dafuq is that?!")

I don't like Tre's at all. His chin or something bothers me.

Son, I am disappoint. :mad::lol:

For real guys, if you want to be scared shitless, read the story of the origin of the expression.

they just wont play it..

And nothing of value was lost. (Seriously, though, if not getting Nightlife means a better chance of getting a Wild One, I'd be OK with that.)

I really like Wild One a lot more now that I understand the Kool Aid reference.

I had no idea that phrase existed! It definitely makes more sense now.

It's another Misery, and that's sad. I love Nightlife and would like to hear it live, but it just isn't realistic.

Maybe if they're playing gigs in California there's a possibility she might make a special guest appearance, but even that's unlikely. I can't see where it would fit into the vibe of a GD gig.

Wow! That's Loud (to me) sounds like 27th Ave. Shuffle (I'm not saying this is bad or anything).

Yeah that's very true. As a band that don't make their music too complicated, I'd imagine it's very hard to make genuinely new sounds after over 20 years.

This is back to the Kool Aid discussion, but it's strange because I've heard about the Jonestown thing a little bit before but never heard the Kool Aid thing. I was typing the lyrics to my friend (because I'm an annoying asshole like that) and he told me it was really cool and then explained it to me.

Ok. I got fed up of waiting for my copy to arrive so I downloaded and listened. These are my impression at second listen (I'll go writing my opinion as I re-listen):

See You Tonight: When it started I thought it was Rusty James. Pretty unoriginal riff. But I really like the vocals, Mike accompaigning Billie like in Words I Might Have Ate. I like it a lot because vocals are actually the focus of the song. If it was a proper song with bass and drums and all it would probably be better. So I'll give it a 9/10.

Fuck Time: How to dislike this song? Green Day's crazy, bratty touch. Good song about sexual infatuation everyone can relate to. In this song even the drums and the bassline are sexy! 10/10

Stop When The Red Lights Flash: It gave me a goosebump when the drums started. And the riff sounds fresh and awesome! Full of energy. I was expecting faster and punchier verses though, like the 'I'll make you surrender' part. I like the 'whoooo' although they reminded me a lot of Troublemaker. My punctuation: 9/10

Lazy Bones: I was expecting this to be somewhat better after hearing the opinions people had about it. It's very good though. I didn't really mind it in first listen, but it got much better with second listen. I like Mike's 'wooooooohooooo's more in this one. 8.5/10

Wild One: This song is just pure perfection. I kinda liked it when it started but it only got better. Billie's sweet as hell voice was really amazing, and those backing vocals really add a lot to the song. I really love that part of 'She gave up on Jesus, for living in Venus'. I really realyl loved that backing line of 'Wiiiiiiiiild oooone'. I don't know if it's Mike or Billie (I think Billie?) but it's simple perfect. Verses are really catchy and the chorus is so simple but also catchy and sweet!! That solo is really amazing, and it has my dearly beloved 'Wiiiiiiiiild ooone' in it from time to time. I really loved it, so it gets 10/10.

Make Out Party: My first thought was 'OH MY GOD WHAT AN EPIC BASSLINE!!!'. I spent all the song with my air bass playing and jumping :D And I love it when you hear just the bass alone playing. It's probably my favorite part of the song  This is gonna sound amazing when Billie makes a long stop while on tour and leaves Mike and Tré playing while he talks to the public. I love it so freaking much! Also, Billie's raw, screamy vocals give it a cool old-school feel while still sounding fresh and new. One of my favorites too. 10/10

Stray Heart: This song is the one I've been waiting for since I first hear it back in March/April. I was really happy when the studio version came out and I listened to it all the time. However, amongst all the amazing, new and fresh songs on ¡Dos! this song doesn't sound that overwhelming. Or maybe it's just that I've listened to this song over 100 times. Like Wild One, the vocals sound very sweet. The bassline is very prominent and it noticeably has a lot of love into it, plus the guitar solo in this one is simple magnificent. 9/10

Ashley: The way Billie shouts 'Ashley!' reminds me a lot of how he shouts 'Uptight!' in the song of the same title on Nimrod. However Ashley sounds more 'hardcore'. This song has a kinda angry and apocalyptic sound. It could fit a motorcross race! 9/10

Baby Eyes: I loved the line ''Cause baby baby I was born kill'. This song sounds punchy but still chill somehow. Not much more to say. Probably my least favorite in the album, but still pretty damn great! 8.5/10

Lady Cobra: I like it when Billie sings a verse and the guitar repeats the verse's rythm. Sounds just good. 9/10

Nightlife: This song had me dancing all the time!! This song is just so different to the others, yet so fucking good! I love the strong percusion :D I wish it somehow gets to be played live! It gets a kinda naughtier feeling if you relate the line 'Come inside' Lady Cobra sings in this song with the line 'I wanna get inside of you' in Troublemaker  Definitely this gets a 10/10!!

Wow! That's Loud: Three words: BACKING FUCKING VOCALS!! And OMG that opening guitar riff!! I love it when the solo starts with that riff and uuuh-backing-vocals doing the same rythm accompaigning the riff! It's just too much awesomeness. 10/10

Amy: Finally, a proper ballad. The first one in the trilogy. I was kinda underwhelmed by this one though, since you can barely hear bass and strings :ermm: It kinds sounds like that acoustic version of Good Riddance in the German Brain Stew/Jaded single. But actually the guitar sounds better. Sounds really chill and the sound I like in an acoustic guitar. I haven't looked at the lyrics and I wanna see the right ones when I get the CD booklet, but that 'Do you wanna be a friend of mine?' line makes me wanna cry. Of sadness, I mean he sounds like so desperate. He sounds like 'Okay, either you love me or not please don't leave, stay we be friends pleaaaase!'. It sounds so freaking sincere. To me, it's much better than Good Riddance. 9/10

Final album punctuation: 10/10. It's such an amazing album. It left me trully impressed and amazed from the first listen already and this didn't change with second listen. I'll give it more listens, just because ¡Dos! is this good.

I know there are tons of 9/10 :lol:I would have liked to be more precise but I'm not gonna be the picky bitch that starts with the 8.78

3 ways

1. They decide to bring her and her band on tour

2. Instrumental during the rapping parts

3. Playback

Haha, See You Tonight would have no point if they "filled it out" more with guitar and drums and all that, it's supposed to be a quiet little almost-a capella number.

I'd actually prefer them to have Mystic Knight Of The Cobra to open for them, and then Lady Cobra sings Nightlife?

The only way I see them doing it live is if she happens to be there. But I'm thinking this is a song that would make for some very interesting on-stage interactions if she were there .

OK, I will admit: when I first heard "Wow! That's Loud!" that opening riff annoyed the piss out of me.

One week later: I can't get enough of it!!!!!! :runaround: LOVE THIS FUCKING SONG!!!!!!!!

That's completely the opposite that I had.

I liked it at first, but now it's so freaking annoying so I skip the song immediately.

I don't like that the penultimate song of both UNO and DOS are bland and quite bad actually (well in DOSs case the 3rd last and penultimate are bad and Lady Cobra isn' t that much better).

Or...

4. They don't play it and play a good song instead. (Best option!)

Wow! That's Loud (to me) sounds like 27th Ave. Shuffle (I'm not saying this is bad or anything).

That's what I immediately said on first listen. For some reason, "Ashley" made me think of The Network's "Reto," too.
