pucky
Yeah, but see, contrary to what you might believe, we're not unhappy with the album because of some nitpicky stupid reasons. Good for you if you like it, it takes all sorts, but I'm pretty sure a fair few people have given legitimate reasons why they haven't enjoyed this album. Supporting a band does not mean you blindly love everything they do just because they did it. This is the album people have yearned for for years, but in my opinion, it falls short of what I wanted, phoning it in. Yes, the songs are fast, but there's no energy, no passion. The songwriting is lazy and uninspired. The lyrics on Uno weren't great either, but at least those had some feeling behind them. I've listened through Dos multiple times, and if you asked me to sing you something from half the songs on the album, I wouldn't be able to, because there's nothing memorable in them. I'm glad you enjoyed it, but writing off legitimate, thought-out explanations of how disappointed someone is as them "finding something to bitch about" is rather closed-minded. It's funny that you say that, I find DOS much better lyrically than Uno. Sure, it has some silly, "empty" songs like Fuck Time or Makeout Party, but lyrics like the ones of Lazy Bones, Stray Heart, Amy or even Ashley are (to me) better than any lyrics of Uno. I know each has his own opinion, and I absolutely respect that, but I find it hard to believe that things like "I'm to tired to be bored, I'm to bored to be tired and the silence is so defeaning it's like picking at a sore" are empty of feeling or effort. It's not only about the lyrics and the meaning itself, but I find it much more elaborate the puns, the way BJ "plays" with words. "This careless memory and now I could care less", or the whole Wow! That's loud song are just examples of an awesome rhetoric.
Tubbie Head
Also, for some reason I can't tell if I like this one better than iUno!, for now at least... I think I'll end up seeing the Trilogy as one, 'cause these three albums are just so diverse that it's hard to compare them (I know I haven't heard iTré! but I know what to expect). You say you couldn't sing something from half the album after multiple listens...I could. So it's not down to the lyrics not being memorable it's more down to your memory. Your whole post is full of opinions you're parading as fact...and that's closed-minded (in my opinion). I understand why you don't like the album, or it didn't live up to your expectations. I didn't mean to cause any offence with my original post, so apologies if I did.

Can't speak for him, but I think what he meant was that usually certain lyrics stick in your mind, stick out to you as amazing, and nothing on this album is really shining through. At least, that's how I feel about most of the songs. With the exception of Fuck Time, Lazy Bones, Amy and Stray Heart, none of the songs really stand out to me as unique. I can sing parts of them, yes, that's natural after listening to an album 20+ times in a span of a week, but even after listening to it that many times I'm still not seeing a"wow" factor I anticipated. But then again, everyone is different and has different tastes. Other people really like it. But I really don't think this is the "back to basics" album everyone was anticipating. Actually, it's unlike anything they've ever done before (besides Foxboro Hot Tubs), which explains its polarizing nature. Also, when posting your opinion on a forum, a place to exchange ideas, rarely people take posts as fact. I wouldn't take things so seriously next time in terms of what's "fact" and "opinion." I reviewed the album for my student newspaper and gave it a B, claiming it had "hits, but misses." I don't think anyone really hates the album; it's just not what we expected. If my opinion's still not clear you can read what I wrote and maybe gain some insight on my opinion: http://www.bgnews.co...19bb2963f4.html

And again, the lyrics on Uno weren't great, but at least it sounded like the band was having fun playing those songs. I don't get that feeling from Dos, except on those aforementioned tracks. Opinion is not fact. You say you couldn't sing something from half the album after multiple listens...I could. So it's not down to the lyrics not being memorable it's more down to your memory. No, what I'm saying is it's a fact that some people dislike the album for real reasons (reasons which are obviously personal opinons of theirs, just like mine), rather than hating on it because it's different, or new, or some other superficial reason. Your original post made it sound like that's all that people who don't like Dos are doing, bitching about superficialities with no substance. I just wanted to point out that plenty of people have given it some thought and come to the conclusion that they don't like the album. You didn't offend me, I just wanted to remind everyone that disliking an album does not, in and of itself, mean they're just looking for things to bitch about, or that they haven't given it a chance. Thank you for saying what I wanted to better than I could've I did not get the wow factor from this album that I wanted. Uno was a fireworks display. Dos is a barrel fire. Yeah, at first when I listened to "¡Dos!" I was like, "oh, this is pretty good!" It had a lot of shock value on first listen because it was so different. Then, as I kept listening to it, I lost interest quickly. "¡Uno!" was on repeat for a few weeks, while "¡Dos!" is already becoming less of an obsession for me. Except Fuck Time and Lazy Bones. Can't stop listening to those. I was worried I would be branded as one of those "oh you're just never satisfied people" if I bitched about the album because everyone here was raving over it, for the most part, when it first leaked. But like I said, when the shock value subsided, I think a lot of people realize it's just an OK album. Exactly. Thank you for saying what I wanted to better than I could've I did not get the wow factor from this album that I wanted. Uno was a fireworks display. Dos is a barrel fire. Not a problem. I like that quote. Wish I could have had it before I wrote my review, haha!

BlackBaboon
I think they knew they were going to do this trilogy way earlier than they said because it was the only way for them to top the last two records and that's why I think there is so much filler on these records because they had the idea and needed to fill it rather than the other way around because it wouldn't make sense for them to release these three records with all the songs that are just mediocre at best on
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap
oh well I'll just go back listening to born to die: paradise editon again seriously though it ruined dos for me cuz it is flawless. best record of the year for sure. That is a great album, but at least Dos doesn't have a line as bad as "my pussy tastes like pepsi cola", unless you get the vinyl pressing that has Drama Queen of course. Clockwise
I respect all opinions, but I'll say again that I feel like this record is extremely inspired. Just because you assume a song was written in 5 minutes, or the riff is sort of similar to something else, doesn't prove that it's passionless or phoned in. I think the Trilogy oozes passion and emotion, people saying the opposite confuse me, but I guess everyone has their reasons for thinking differently. The Snark
Text Messaging Slut sounds very Jeffree Star/Lords of Acid/Mindless Self Indulgence-ish. It's not the best, but I can picture it being popular in clubs. And if you're not desensitized by videos like that yet, you need to get out from under that rock. It both goes with the song and makes fun of all other videos like that at the same time. Oh hey it's the devil woman Just look at her. She's totally out to ruin the lives of people she's known forever.

The idea came up during 21st Century Breakdown of a "three part story"; that became the three "acts" of that album. This trilogy came from the idea that "hey, we're writing all this music and we like it, its fun and simple, so let's release it all, at least for the fans". To me it seems like these have been their most fan-driven albums and their most personally-driven albums. It's a shame that people on here aren't receiving them well because of expectations and an apparent love for introspection and the theatrical.
