No Rhyme Or Reason
I thought that Amy was amazing... When I heard that Amy was in the trilogy My first thought was that the band could make the studio version really really good.... or really bad!!! but when listening to DOS for the first time and hearing Amy for the first time i thought that they made this song perfect!!! Before DOS was released i listened to the live version from the tiki bar, and i did not think much of this song but the studio version is awesome I agree. I thought the tiki bar version was okay, but I wasn't really that interested in it. But the studio version completely exceeded my expectations - they made it beautiful and haunting and fragile. I love it. It still reminds me a bit of Hallelujah (the Jeff Buckley version) sonically.
AlissaGoesRAWR
You really hit the nail on the head for the reception of this album. Dos is a such a mixed bag, I think that's what hurts it and helps it, depending on the person. Uno is just a good, solid album; even it's weakest tracks "Loss of Control" and "Fell For You" are good songs and work great in between all 12 tracks. Every song has that classic Green Day sound, you either love it or you don't. Dos, on the other hand, changes back to back. It doesn't have a cohesive sound: aside from Ashley and Baby Eyes, no song resembles the one before or after it. The strongest tracks shine through because of this. It also means that the songs can't be judged together, because some people might really be into one song but not like the other, making them think differently about the album; compared to Uno where there was an accepted consistency throughout, and only "Troublemaker", "Kill the DJ", and "Oh Love" really break the blistering pace (which, in my opinion, is a good thing). I think we must share a brain or something, because aside from disagreeing that "Fell For You" is a weak track (it's one of my favorites!), I completely agree with everything you said. My review of ¡Uno! was pretty much identical to your post too.

It was definitely the track that surprised me with how much I liked it and how catchy it was. That's what "Lazy Bones" is for me on ¡Dos!. Came in knowing nothing about it, now can't stop listening to it.

It's such a good song, even if it's derivative of Give Me Novacaine and Favorite Son, I dare to say that it's better than both of those songs. Mykee Mexx
Different places, different release dates. I think its just a regional thing for marketing, some place find other days better for sales than others. In Germany it´s fridays for GD-albums releases. And it´s thursdays for movies... Are you talking about when he sings "Can you write me a lullaby?"? I love that song, but that part annoys me so much! Somehow somewhat out of tune for me... perfectpitchrob
I've come to a realization how in terms of Garage Rock, you have the genre represented from all time periods on this album! - Wow! That's Loud is representative of the 1965-1967 era garage/psych rock of the Nuggets series (which I LOVE!) - Fuck Time, SWTRLF, and to some extent Stray Heart are like the early-mid 1970's era pub rock (which led to punk rock) - Ashley and to some extent, Baby Eyes are more early 80's punk as opposed to garage, but I love both! - Lazy Bones, Wild One (to some extent), Makeout Party, and Lady Cobra are like modern garage rock like the Strokes and the Arctic Monkeys. - The only ones that are more outside the genre are the opener/closer and Nightlife. Although these work for the party from hell theme of the album and track sequence. Nightlife could even be interprited as an ode to alcohol or hard drugs and Lady Cobra's part IS the drugs! Either way, I really love this album!

Kaddi.
I just read the AP review and I disagree with almost everything they say about Dos, but that's not my point here. What really struck me is this: ... but that's when you realize Green Day never really had all that much to say in the first place ... Really?! My top favourites from the 1st listen are: AMY Wild One Lady Cobra Lazy Bones Makeout Party I like Wow! that's loud too, but I can't believe it was about a dress Ok, I liked all of them XD I even liked Nightlife, it's got a really nice groovie sound that makes me want to dance (BETTER than Kill the DJ, in my opinion)

I did notice all those similarities in the songs, just like I found similarities in Church on Sunday and The Static Age. But I usually find that I only notice it the first few times I hear the new song. Once I have listened to the new song several times, I don't notice anymore. Church on Sunday and The Static Age blew my mind for the longest time. I didn't realize the similarities, but I always wondered why I anticipated the last chorus of The Static Age to do that little guitar hiccup thing where they slow it down, and it never did. Then I was like, "Oh, wait, that's the wrong song."

spark in the night
OMG you guys Listen to "That's All Right" cover (B-side on 21CB) Billie says "stop when the red lights flash baby" what the fuck is with this phrase? Lol
bringonjennifury
I think See You Tonight sounds more like Folk than country. I love the way it blends Mike's harmonizing to perfection with Billie's angelic voice . I have not figured out Baby Eyes yet. But I love how after the pause between "I was born to" and "kill", Billie's voice suddenly becomes angry and scary and the instruments switch to a minor key and get slightly louder. The song suddenly sounds scary and dangerous.
BradGreenDay
LOL Stop When The Red Lights Flash was used in a b-side to 21st CB, In Oh Love and the song Stop When The Red Lights Flash... WTF!!!
pieterv
I love love love Amy. Even though Billie's voice sounds weird at one point. Lazy Bones is so great too. Gahhh. But there's a few I'm not so fond of, but I do like Dos better than Uno. Are you talking about when he sings "Can you write me a lullaby?"? I love that song, but that part annoys me so much! Somehow somewhat out of tune for me... I've listened to it the first time yesterday and this bothered me instantly, I was looking on google if anyone every mentioned it. Didn't find anything. There's really something wrong with that line

SedatedTabloidReader
I just read the AP review and I disagree with almost everything they say about Dos, but that's not my point here. What really struck me is this: Really?! It's fair enough as they don't really have much to say. It's just that most people in the public eye have nothing to say so lowered expectations means any little thing that looks like an opinion is jumped on as if it's some scripture handed down from the heavens. Sure, there's some vague sentiments, but nothing particularly concrete. In fact, I'd go so far to say that the most socially aware and mature song they've ever written is Macy's Day Parade. It's just a shame that they ditched that approach. Just for an example, take The Decline by NOFX. Says far more in 18 minutes than Green Day do in two hours. That's not a sleight at Green Day or an "underground punk is better" position, it's just that when you start moving away from the meaningless mainstream dross you're more likely to hear an opinion. Wheth or not you agree with that then is another matter. Hell, if you want to stay in the mainstream just look at Rage Against The Machine as a politically aware band. I applaud Green Days move to political consiousness, but lets not mistake that for keen insights and salient points.

But on almost all of their older albums, they had loads of things to say in my opinion.
