¡DOS! Album

I'm going to disagree with you to a certain extent. Wow! That's Loud is also another straight up "throwaway fun" song and I think Baby Eyes is less serious than the overall tone of the album. Lady Cobra/Nightlife could also be tossed in that throwaway fun category, Nightlife having a very obvious other side though.

Baby Eyes is a tough one, In a sense it could be throwaway but there is just something...sinister? about that song. I don't know, but I love it; it reminds me of their darker punk songs, like Reject, especially in how he sneers the words.

Wow! That's Loud is also a little murky to me; the song to me overall sounds like a metaphor for a messy party and dangerous bad behavior, like sex with someone you shouldn't be with, how it's wrong but it still feels good (Wow that dirty dress is so loud). But the music there, especially the crash at the end, is what really sells at as something other than a fun song.

Lady Cobra literally is about Monica (Lady Cobra), but figuratively it's the same as Nightlife, but from the "narrator's" (if you will) perspective.

After the first listen this all started to hit me a bit, even before I read similar theories on the forum. It is of course my opinion, but it definitely is not as straightforward as Uno, where most of the tracks are upfront love songs. I mean, the most bubblegum song on Dos is Stray Heart, and that's about infidelity, oddly enough from the perspective of the cheater, not from the person who has been cheated on.

Can I have a guess that the general consensus is that people like Dos more than Uno?

Dos is getting more love, but I prefer Uno a little bit more. I'd give Uno a 4/5 and Dos a 3.5/5.

I think it's way more polarized though. I think most people thought Uno was good or average, but some people really seem to believe Dos is a gift from heaven while others are more hypercritical than they were with Uno.

Completely agree. I wrote a review today that will print in my college's student newspaper tomorrow and I used that exact word: polarizing. I, personally, like ¡Uno! better as a whole package. I can replay it again and again and listen to it straight through. ¡Dos!, however, is much more difficult to listen to straight through, but has many more stand out tracks than ¡Uno! like "Stray Heart," "Lazy Bones" and "Fuck Time" that will go down as some of my all-time favorites. But I despise "Nightlife" with a fiery passion. So it's really hard to say what album I like more. I like them both for different reasons.

This album has a lot of pumpass songs! :P Some of my favorite songs are Lazy Bones, Fuck Time and Stop When The Red Lights Flash. I pretty much like every song on the album except See You Tonight because it has this country sound, not that I hate country but it's just weird and it's not a really catchy song :/

I don't like country music, and I love See You Tonight. To me there's nothing country about it. Sure it's just vocals and guitar, but if that makes it country I should hate every 3rd song on my ipod!

DOS already has more views then UNO on the GDC forum only after two days of the release... that's impressive )

I would put that down to the fact that Dos is such a different album, and it has provoked a lot more difference of opinion than Uno, which was more straight up rock n roll.

Can I have a guess that the general consensus is that people like Dos more than Uno?

Let there be a pole!

You really hit the nail on the head for the reception of this album. Dos is a such a mixed bag, I think that's what hurts it and helps it, depending on the person. Uno is just a good, solid album; even it's weakest tracks "Loss of Control" and "Fell For You" are good songs and work great in between all 12 tracks. Every song has that classic Green Day sound, you either love it or you don't.

Dos, on the other hand, changes back to back. It doesn't have a cohesive sound: aside from Ashley and Baby Eyes, no song resembles the one before or after it. The strongest tracks shine through because of this. It also means that the songs can't be judged together, because some people might really be into one song but not like the other, making them think differently about the album; compared to Uno where there was an accepted consistency throughout, and only "Troublemaker", "Kill the DJ", and "Oh Love" really break the blistering pace (which, in my opinion, is a good thing).

This album... is so wonderful. I feel the 'party' on it, some songs reaaally make me wanna dance like hell.

I'll start for the intro; I love the lyrics of See You Tonight, it's a weird song, being so short and different. It also reminds me a little to Olivia <3

FUCK Time, it's great, exactly how I expected it to be :eyebrows: Fun, dirty and crazy. It makes me laugh! But Billie's noises are, well... maybe a little too high? Haha

I think my favorites are Wild One (of course  How can't you not love it?), Lazy Bones: I feel in tune with this one. It has contradictory thoughts, and sometimes it's not so good to be that tired... but what the hell, this song is fucking awesome. And Wow! That's Loud, do I need to explain why? ;)

Nightlife is dark... I like it but I guess I have to "get used to it" for being a rap :P But it's good one!

Amy makes me cry and it gives me chills. I love the way Billie sings "Do you wanna be a friend of mine?" . His melodies on this record are so beautiful and new... I don't know how they do it, to create a song that's better than the last one and they keep going. That's why I love this band; to me their music always gets better and better ♥

¡DOS! might be the 'killer' record and not ¡UNO! The drums, bass, guitars and lyrics kick ass big time. Besides, Stray Heart's in it, so... there's nothing left to say.

Oh no, actually there is:

I think that I dig more songs on Uno, but to be honest, I don't think I've given Dos a fair chance. I've found that Lazy Bones is so killing me softly and I can't stop listening to it. I just keep saying "ok, one last time" but I can't stop starting it over.

I was also very excited to have a studio version of Fuck Time, but Foxboro did a version in NYC back in 2010 with slightly altered lyrics and I think I prefer that version lyrically.

All in all, I think I love both albums and am excited for Tre, not because I think it'll be better or more epic, just because it'll be more new Green Day.

I definitely do prefer Uno, and I know I'm not alone. That being said, I think Dos is more cohesive and makes more sense as an album. I actually want to listen to it in order, for some reason. Uno I don't feel that way, I just kinda pick and choose songs to pump me up. Dos it's just like "Ah, this is an experience that I prefer in its entirety." But that's less complimentary than it sounds, because it means there are fewer tracks that really stand out to me, I just need to listen to the whole thing to enjoy it, whereas Uno I'll really seek out some songs.

Yeah, I completely agree about the listening in order thing. Uno is a bunch of good songs. Dos is more of an album.

In many ways, it reminds me of 21st Century Breakdown, to be honest.

I don't like country music, and I love See You Tonight. To me there's nothing country about it. Sure it's just vocals and guitar, but if that makes it country I should hate every 3rd song on my ipod!

Old country and early rock'n'roll have a lot in common, sound-wise, in my estimation. My first thought when I heard See You Tonight was definitely old country. A good friend of mine (with a greater catalog of old time rock'n'roll) suggested Everly Brothers. I have an appreciation for the sound of Johnny Cash, but I don't have any interest in Tim McGraw... sound-wise they are very different animals.

Anyone know how long Static Noise is going to be suspended exactly? I'm sorta disappointed since that was the only legit active GD podcast.

They decided to leave it for a while and focus on other things on GDA/C. It will come back eventually, probably when Billie's out of rehab and they're touring and there's more things to talk about.

Different places, different release dates.

I think its just a regional thing for marketing, some place find other days better for sales than others.

I love love love Amy. Even though Billie's voice sounds weird at one point. Lazy Bones is so great too. Gahhh. But there's a few I'm not so fond of, but I do like Dos better than Uno.

I think I may have to take back what I said earlier. I'm starting to appreciate Dos more than Uno. I listened to it twice today while waiting for my class to start and it's growing on me. I didn't like Wow That's Loud or Baby Eyes at first, but now I enjoy it. I still don't like Wild One or Lady Cobra though.

What do you mean his voice sounds weird? (Just curious)

Matter of taste, but that's cool :). I didn't like Makeout Party at first but now it is about on level in my mind with Fuck Time (not my favorite, but I do enjoy it and find it humorous). I'm still not 100% in love with Wow That's Loud, but it's growing on me.

And I love the choking cough in the middle of "Makeout Party". It's like he's been making out so hard in the depths of the 'party' he forgot to breathe, and now he is gasping for air...

Matter of taste is exactly what it is. While you said Make out Party grew on you, it was one of my favorites from 1st listen. And yeah Wow That's Loud was the song I skipped after the first time I heard it, but I enjoy it now.

I need to listen to it a lot more to know for sure, but at this moment, I still like Uno better.

Are you talking about when he sings "Can you write me a lullaby?"? I love that song, but that part annoys me so much!

Completely in love with Wild One. Billie's vocals are amazing, and the guitar solo is so simple yet catchy.

That's right. They do have a lot in common, because rock n roll came from country as well as the blues. Old English folk songs and ballads made their way to America, and over time they gave rise to American country music. This country music tradition eventually evolved into rock n roll - think Elvis Presley. He represents rock n roll which stemmed directly from country music. Contrast that with other early rock n roll, like Little Richard and Chuck Berry - they came from the R&B tradition. Blues developed in the early 1900s, right along with country. While those two genres had a lot in common (for example, being associated with poor, rural, and minority communities), they kind of diverged a little bit by the 30s. Blues become more distinct from country, and it led to the other side of rock n roll. So yeah, rock n roll evolved directly from early county and blues, and then all three genres continued to evolve over time and become more distinct from one another. Although all these genres have similar origins, they've changed a lot over the decades.

.... That was slightly off topic. Oops.

But I do like See You Tonight, and I can definitely hear that early country sound.

I thought that Amy was amazing...

When I heard that Amy was in the trilogy My first thought was that the band could make the studio version really really good.... or really bad!!!

but when listening to DOS for the first time and hearing Amy for the first time i thought that they made this song perfect!!!

Before DOS was released i listened to the live version from the tiki bar, and i did not think much of this song but the studio version is awesome :)
