¡DOS! Album

I'm saying musically it fits. I mean, I can totally see why some people might find it a bit jarring. But the album is not totally unified sound-wise. There is definitely diversity. Moreso than is the case for ¡Uno!, I think.

i said the CLEAN version facepalm.gif

Sorry; misunderstood. I thought it was just the preview you were talking about, and that it was edited because it was a preview. (I don't really buy much music on iTunes, so I don't know much about the previewing rules)

It fits with the album lyrically, but musically I just think it just seems out of place with the whole garage rock feel of the rest of the album.

I agree. However, I get the feeling that it might end up being one of the songs that just grows on me as I listen to it more and more.

Early favorites: Lazy Bones, Amy, Stray Heart

For some unexplainable reason, I am in love with Nightlife. Like, I find it incredibly awkward when I think "Hey, this is a Green Day song." Yet at the same time, it is so brilliant that they threw in a song that is so wildly different. It's catchy as hell, too. It is amazing that they're able to do so many different styles of music and do each one so well.

Amy is an amazing song. The writing is just stunning. What I love about it is that even though it is about Amy Winehouse, the lyrics perfectly capture the idea that Billie was just an observer in her situation just like the rest of the world and he wishes he knew her. In the song, he isn't trying to make assumptions about her or act like he knew her personally, and that came across so well in the song. I'm not describing this well, sorry. I just think the feeling that he captured in the lyrics is really hard to pull off, and it was executed beautifully.

My only sorta negative comment is that while FHT is great, I'm not so sure how I feel about this new era of Green Day that is all about sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. To me, that is just never what they've been about. I don't know. I guess it is more of just an observation than a criticism, really, because I think the music is awesome. It's just that the content of the trilogy songs so far feel much less personal than all of their other music. Which is fine, but it's just very different for them.

Overall, I like Uno! better, but from the first time I heard Lazy Bones, it was already one of my favorite Green Day songs. Dos! has some great standout songs, but I do agree that many feel like fillers, even if they're good songs.

The only thing in my opinion that holds Uno back is the lack of musical variety. Dos pulls that off more than well, and it succeeds for the most part.

Yeah I agree with that it does seem strange for them, but ¡Tré! is supposed to be "the redemption" of the trilogy so It might have some less superficial topics and some more personal and serious topics.

Well they're getting older and they're not having as many experiences as they were having when they were younger. 1039 - Dookie are their most relatable music, as alot of it deals with love and growing up. Now that they're getting older, what is it left for them to talk about except mainly having fun. The only thing I can see them doing is making a bunch more concept songs like One For The Razorbacks, Longview, and such.

I know exactly what you mean. I've been saying this, that once I heard it, I just felt choked up... And have done, every one of the ten times I've listened to it today. That is quite a feat considering I never really knew much about Amy Winehouse, but his lyrics somehow evoke so much emotion...

I totally agree. That was my first impression when it came to hearing about what this trilogy was about. BUt when I listen to these songs, and hear the lyrics for most of them... It's like, this is real. This isn't just playtime in the studio. Yeah, it's a party, but it seems to be coming from a real place, something that may have even been an internal struggle... And that makes it much heavier, but also much easier to accept as being "Green Day", if that makes any kind of sense.

Seriously can't get enough of Baby Eyes.

Best track on the album hands down.

I like it. I have it stuck in my head at the moment, actually. It isn't my FAVORITE from the album (I'm hard-pressed to say what is), but I do like it. It reminds me and my friend quite a bit of the Misfits.

If anything, I was thinking that Green Day's songs would become more relate able considering that they have so much wisdom they can share with the world ^__^ ..especially the way that Billie writes his lyrics  I think they can still write about love or growing up, but it would just be from a different, more "grown up" perspective xD

I think the whole "sex, drugs, and rock n roll" vibe has alot to do with the fact that all of band members are now 40 and are now considered middle aged men.

Obviously, I can't speak from that perspective as I am only an 18 year old girl, but I'm sure there's alot of emotions running your head when you turn 40. I remember in an interview Billie saying that it's pretty damning when he sees like, a pretty 20 year old girl and realizes that she wasn't even alive when their first album came out.

I think the trilogy is more or less plying on the "midlife crisis" fiasco that seems to hit alot of men around that age; they're not old enough to be considered weird old farts but at the same time it's like they're too old to be going out and chasing girls or partying day in and day out and all that jazz.

I guess that can work; I mean as long as it sounds good and the lyrics are okay, I'll deal with it. The thing is that I'm just lost as to what direction their future albums will take. I want them to continue to make music for a LONG time, but I just hope it doesn't become boring.

It's nice to see someone not overlook Baby Eyes. Baby Eyes and Ashley, in my opinion, are the most underrated songs on the album. They seem to blow by on the first listen, but when you go back a few times they start to stand out. It's definitely nice to get some classic Green Day branded punk rock on an album filled with so many unique and new sounds.

You may be right, that´what I thought, too. It´s maybe a last Good-bye to their youth. I tell you, I speek out of experience, ´cause I felt the same when I was in my middle-fourties. You´re in between. Maybe that´s why I love Dos so much. Or maybe I´m just in my second spring... or still in my midlife-crisis. Give a damn, I love Dos!!!

Umm, Lady Cobra IS an actual person.

In fact, you here her voice on the next track.

Femme Gauche wasn't saying Lady Cobra's literally not a real person. Obviously she is - that's how she sings on the track! They were saying that Lady Cobra *in the song* doesn't seem to be characterized as an actual person per se, but more as a concept or representation of the overall grimy nightlife. So Lady Cobra's part in Nightlife comes from the character of that shoulder devil or whatever, not from the character of a girl really named Lady Cobra. I think that's a good interpretation. But of course, you can also see the girl in Nightlife as indeed being an actual girl saying all that. Both interpretations work.
