They've only not spoken to each other because they are taking a break. That's all it is - a break. I can't believe they'd have a huge conflict over this to the point that they aren't speaking to each other.

One thing that's really important to note from Mike's "I haven't seen Billie in weeks" comment -- this means Billie is taking his recovery from whatever substance abuse issue the band has disclosed *very* seriously, which can only be a good thing. Getting sober again is one matter, *staying* that way is another -- and my understanding is that figuring out what changes you have to make in your life to avoid falling off the wagon again, requires that you isolate yourself from your "old life" for awhile. Billie and Mike being out of touch with each other for some time has got to be a part of that regardless of whether they'd both want it to be that way, and it's one important piece of Billie's recovery.

I couldn't be happier that Zane Lowe is the one that did this interview. No obnoxious speculation, just a genuine and straightforward interview. Hearing anything honest like this definitely puts my mind at ease a bit more.

Thanks Andres!

After listening, it seems like the situation was much more serious than any of us imagined. I didn't like the way Mike used the word "life" instead of "health". But it seems he is on the way to recovery and is getting all the help he needs. It's good this all blew up when it did, it obviously needed to be done. It sounded to me that Mike hadn't seen Billie, but there seems to have been some kind of communication between them, even if it wasn't directly with Billie. GD will be back!

I'm not surprised that they haven't talked. Isn't that generally the way rehab works? At least at the very beginning. And it's only been 2 weeks.

Great interview and great song (: I can't tell Mike is kinda sad that he hasn't talked to Billie in weeks because that the first time in 20 years that he has gone so long without talking to him ( at least that's what he said) It really is a beautiful friendship they all share :) And I can tell that they are going to wait until Billie's ultimately ready to start up again...which they should! I care far more for his health than about him trying to recover quickly to play some shows! But Mike definitely sounds optimistic about things...like he knows that everything will all be ok in the end! :) and he even made the comment that Green Day hasn't really taken a break since American Idiot, and maybe this is a blessing in disguise! They each get to spend some quality time with their family..which is never a bad thing! I am looking forward to Billie's recovery and to Green Day starting up again, but not until everyone's ready. No rush...take your time Billie. (haha, I'm talking as if he is going to actually read this:P)

What an interesting interview! Obviously there wasn't much beyond platitudes that Zane could offer, but I thought he handled a difficult subject very well; surprising, since most of the people who interview the band are fucking useless

Like others have mentioned, Mike sounded pretty tired and upset, which is understandable. From what he was saying, there definitely seem to be issues beyond the 'substance abuse' problem - some toxic mix of personal drama, pressure and exhaustion that boiled over into what we saw in Vegas. As Pink_Girl said, his repeated use of "life" is probably significant.

It's also interesting - not to say surprising - to hear Billie has cut himself off for a while. Some family time is exactly what he needs, but it's so strange to think of him not talking to the band, and Mike especially. Best friends for twenty years, then bam. Still, I'd say it's a positive. Much as Mike is playing fast and loose with the notion of them not having taken a break since American Idiot (they all talked about taking holidays during press for 21CB), a couple of weeks for Billie to clear his head can't be a bad thing.

Here's hoping he gets better soon, and the band can get back to doing what they do best :)

You can't talk to anyone? And why is that?

Love Stray Heart, this triliogy is feeling a bit like Sandinista in the way that they're exploring different musical styles and i think thats great!

This interview still made me a bit sad. That Billie hasn't talked to the band. It is definitely good that he is taking his health seriously but it must be so hard for Mike and Tre and all of Green Day and Billie's friends to not know how he is doing. Also, the unfortunate truth is that they are less than three weeks away from Voodoo. It may be very difficult for Billie to get himself prepared for a big show like that. I know he has been doing it for 25 years but I hope the stress of Voodoo doesn't cause him more stress. I really hope he fully recovers from whatever is causing him pain.

If anything I think this break will really allow him to come back stronger than ever. I think going out there with a clear head and sober will make a huge difference. I do hope that if they play as scheduled that they have plenty of time to practice alone just to get back into the swing of things.

It's really upsetting that they haven't seen each other for so long, but the way Mike kept pointing out Billie's life was on the line... I suppose if it's for the best. :(

Don't know if I should be more worried now or not... :S But at least we heard from them again and that was good. I hope Billie is getting better, that's most important now.

woweee it never dawned on me that BJAs life was in danger. I took the comment at face value of susbstance abuse not even thinking of a mental breakdown as well.

Awesome! I was only able to catch the last minute or so. It saddens me to think of how close to the brink Billie's life was heading, but also comforts me to know that he's surrounded by so much support.

When Mike said 'push-ups, prayers, and vitamins', I immediately thought of that Jersey Shore thing...tanning, gym...whatever it is. I can just imagine them pumping their fists going 'PPV! PPV!'.
