Gregorovich
Home by Foo Fighters remains the only song to touch me emotionally nearly to the point of tears. But The Forgotten is, in my opinion, Green Day's most poignant ballad. What really sucks is that I have the Die Hard song after Green Day in my iTunes library, so from now on, every time The Forgotten finishes, I'm going to get 'Remember when we first met John McClane' and all atmosphere is destroyed. Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap
Still undecided, I think I quite like it in spite of its cheesiness but the production's too shiny for me to properly get into it. I'm so glad it doesn't break into some power ballady November Rain electric guitars at the end kind of thing, but keeps it quite low key, even the lead bit, because that would just push the cheese factor to unbearable. burnout409
I actually really like the video, i know there's plenty of Twilight footage in their, but it doesn't feel like a Twilight video, if someone didn't know what twilight was then i think they'd just think it was a sweet video yano it all kinda fits! And that was the 1st time i have properly listened to the song and well...... wow i love it even though i so badly don't wanna say it!
watchmefade92
I hope they're gonna release a non-twilight version too. Even though I don't hate twilight, it just felt wrong.
WalkingContradictionPL
The video isn't bad. Ok, maybe there's too many running Bella (I don't like Kirtsen Stewart), but it's ok. Somehow I like it.

No Rhyme Or Reason
I actually really like the video. It's like fleeting memories that are almost there, but kind of fuzzy and incomplete. It's like looking back on your life, and all the moments intertwining and becoming almost indistinguishable from one another. The way it's edited makes it seem more like a haunting flicker of a memory fading in and out. I really liked it. Though I would love it more without the Twilight scenes, it's still really nice. It feels like a reflective closing chapter to me. The video also seems poignant, thinking of Billie's situation along with the lyrics and seeing him. Final thing I want to mention: I'm so glad we finally have a video with Billie playing the piano in it!!
Schlappy
i like how the band are actually "characters" in the video, they arent just playing the song practice room style in the background. they sort of go on their only little journey too
Heather.
"Like losing faith to our abandon" to me seems really regretful. Like whatever Billie is singing about, or maybe it's nothing concrete, he regrets focusing on over being happy or just living life. The song seems to have a really "don't give up before it's too late" vibe and when he sings "we share the scars of our abandon" he's kind of saying that he (or the listener) isn't the only one with regrets and mistakes, but we all have them. The thing that messes me up about the first one is "losing faith to our abandon", that doesn't really make much sense. The word "in" would be much better than "to" imo. I like your interpretation about shared regrets, especially with the "we share the scars" line (which I do wish ended with something other than "our abandon," but that's because I'm struggling to understand it and it could have been made more accessible somehow with different word choice). As for the "in our abandon" thing being better... you're probably right (because Billie's not a grammatical wizard and probably didn't differentiate what he was saying), but on the off chance Billie was making a conscious choice about prepositions ( or if he even knows what a preposition is ), saying "losing faith in our abandon" would actually have a different message than I thought he was intending... it would mean that he'd given up on whatever is represented by his abandon, whereas "losing faith to our abandon" makes sense if he's trying to say, "we're losing faith in something, and it's at our own risk" (our own abandon). Cheers to silly micro-analyzing. Nerds. The reason I feel the need to talk about things like this is because this is the same kind of criticism that came out of Oh Love or may have come out of a song like 21 Guns (although I think that song is thematically a lot clearer)... there's a lot of sensible lyrics here, and a sensible mood, but it's still not an easily understandable song if you're just casually listening, you're gonna say "That was beautiful... wait, what was that about?" It probably stems from the fact that "the forgotten," the name of the song, as used in the lyrics, is kind of esoteric. Asking "Where in the world is the forgotten?" is a bigger, more confusing philosophical question than "Do you know what's worth fighting for when it's not worth dying for?" Something interesting I noticed too, this ballad sounds VASTLY different from the ballads on 21stCB, but I can't put my finger on why. If there's anything the trilogy made us realize is just how adaptive Green Day are to all music styles. And, for the most part, they can make them all work. I think the difference between this and 21CB ballads is that this one is a lot more raw, simple, and direct musically (someone mentioned "Let it Be" earlier), therefore less ambitious. It doesn't try too hard to be epic, it just is. Granted, the lyrics aren't that different than what Billie would have written on 21CB, but the music cuts more emotionally. Dirty Rotten Bastard
I actually really liked the video, especially how they used the Green Day footage it made me think of the entire Green Day career and how far they've come both as a band and people. I don't have a problem with the Twilight footage either...apart from one of the 'running Bella (or whatever she's called) scenes' was just ridiculous. I just burst out laughing at the pure 'cheesiness' of the look on her face. But other than that, it's not a bad video. It was much better than I expected anyway. sampy
The song is incredibly beatiful, but the video..... horrible. I really like the clips where the band is and that clip where Billie is facing another Billie is just... epic. But watching those two vampire teenagers running around the woods 150mph is just so awful. That looks just so stupid. But after all and once again, the song is one of the most beautiful songs Billie's ever written. It's too epic for this kind of garbage video. spark in the night
This song is so fucking sad. And that video. My weeps. Poor Billie's troubled soul. Also, the guitar solo in the middle I feel is an ode to Lennon. It's Abbey Road-ish and I adore it.
germanfuzaloo
This sounded a lot like something Oasis would write. Especially with the guitar solo. And it choked me up when the camera focused on Blue when he said "Where in the world did the time go?" Don't know if it was intentional, but it got me. nimrod-41
The song is really good. Even though people will relate it to Twilight, it's not like it was written for Twilight so I just see it as a Green Day song. The good thing about the Twilight part is it will create more Green Day fans! I somehow now expect to see people at the shows in Twilight shirts in silence until this song is played! Alan86
The video can easily be edited to remove the twilight clips and insert more studio/live footage. Someone will eventually do it. That said I thought it would be worse than it is.
