Billie getting treatment for substance abuse.

Billie hasn't been acting like himself (or at least, the Billie that we know) for a while now. He's been more serious, a little distant from Mike and Tre, and I don't know... just different. I've been wondering for a while what was going on with him (I didn't think he had any problems, per se, but there was an obvious change in him lately imo).

Seriously, where are you seeing Billie being "more serious"? He was dead-serious during a lot of the heavy 21CB topical interviews, and lately they've just been fresh and having fun in interviews. It's all so totally subjective. How is there anything to say about him being "a little distant from Mike and Tre"? We know NOTHING about that and I have no idea how anyone could even jump to that conclusion based on any 2 minute interview.

There's a flaw with that though. If every band had about 30 minutes to play, but had to account for switching sets for the next act, they wouldn't be able to fit that schedule. No Doubt's set was about 27:30 minutes long, so then Green Day could have reasonably played for 40 minutes without a problem, which is what it looks like according to that schedule. They clearly have the biggest gap of time between performances.

You like to make assumptions. Once you show anything to support your opinion, I'll shut the fuck up.

Also, for Rihanna, you don't need much stuff. Just a few amps and that's it. It's not like she has a huge band with instruments and shit.

the stage was already set up/being set up for her, it was a double sided stage. if you watch when they announce her, green days equipment is still on stage, a couple seconds later you'll see the stage spin around.

edit: stage spins at 0:15 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gloHovqHrK0

That makes sense. Green Day were up really quickly after Usher finished too.

They definitely had a spinning set. I just haven't seen anything to suggest the band was meant to play for the full 40 - 45 minutes. Why would Green Day play longer than the headlining act?

Wow, seriously? I just showed you facts and math. It's right there on the schedule.

Has anyone else noticed that the banner ad at the bottom of the page is for rehab centers?

It's always for republican candidates when we're talking about that shit too. Google adwords is a funny thing.

anyways. I've had the song "Rehab" in my head for like two days now. Sucks. And i can't help but think of his Nurse Jackie character. Fuck. I'm scared and worried because if he's going into a treatment program it's basically like going to a mental hospital. I'm terrified of going to one myself- and i've had points in my life where it hasn't been that far off. It's not fun and it's scary and lonely and there's a fucking stigma on it, because society is so quick to jump on people's weaknesses. Who cares if someone has a weakness or an illness? Some people have allergies and have to take antihistimines or avoid certain foods... i don't see how that's any different from needing to see a therapist or take antidepressants OR needing help not fucking drinking. It's fucking dumb... and of course the media and the public are going to jump all over this and that sucks and is going to make it 100% harder for his family and bandmates.

Anyways. I'm worried for him. But only because he's probably freaking out because he's got so much on the line right now and probably feels like an arse. And if he's going to an inpatient program, he's going to be away from his family and friends and well... that's fucking scary. And also, if you've been using alcohol for a long time your body becomes dependent on it and he's going to have massive withdrawals from it (which is why you do it in a hospital.) They can give you medication to help with the withdrawals, but it still fucking sucks.

*sigh* everything about it fucking sucks for everyone, and it makes me sad and hope everyone is okay. That is all.

If every other band just about filled their time slot, as I demonstrated with No Doubt, why would the schedule say "Green Day - 11:05" and then "Rihanna - 11:50," but not let Green Day just about fill up that time slot, especially if Rihanna was already set up?

this isn't his first trip there, he'll get through it.

This thread is fucking confusing. I don't know what to believe anymore. I just hope that Billie gets better.

Peace.

What do you mean by withdrawals?

Why would GD perform longer than the headliner?

Plus ive seen the contract they were booked for 30mins same with Usher 30mins

What a shitty "festival" anyway

Who the fuck cares I can't believe you're all getting fucking mad at each other because of MATH and speculation over whether of not it was "possible" for them to play a whole 40 minute set

Get over it

I do want to stress that there's no shame in getting help. If you're dealing with emotional or substance issues, find someone to talk to. It can be a group, a professional or just a friend. I think a lot of times there's a stigma placed on therapy where there shouldn't be one. The ultimate goal is to come out happier and healthier than when you went in.

If I could like this more than once, I would. Just sayin'. <3

It really depends on the publication. I also work for a very reputable gossip magazine, and often our "anonymous source" or "a source close to ____" is the person themselves or their publicist.

I'll agree to disagree on what's reputable then. I never understood gossip journalism anyway. :D

(It really irks me when I say I'm studying journalism and I'm told I'm gonna be paparazzi or a news anchor on TV. Both are false.)

By the time they start playing Basket Case, they're already 2 minutes over. Why would they let them go over and not give them the "one minutes" warning at the 29:00 mark then?

Even if they didn't "get their set cut", fact of the matter is Billie was still fucked enough to the point that he couldn't get through his songs, which still would've been a huge disaster. Even if he didn't flip out, maybe it wouldn't have been in the news as much, but it still would've been a terrible performance.

Instead of focusing so much time on debating if the set was cut short, why don't we just move on from that and look to the future? I understand we're all looking for something to pinpoint a fault on, but all it's doing is causing unnessecary arguments and rumors.

I don't know about you guys, but instead of trying to pinpoint a reason for whatever is going on with him, I'm just going to let it be and support Billie as he takes whatever steps he feels nessecary to return to full health so that he can be running back and forth on stage and hitting all of those high notes again.

This. Seriously. Does it even fucking matter anymore whether the set was cut or not? Fact is, whatever happened Friday night with Billie was apparently a breaking point that somehow led to him getting help. Perhaps it's even a blessing in disguise. But just stop arguing about whether it was cut short or not. Please. This forum is just going around in circles. And frankly, I don't give a damn about whether it was cut short or not.

Yeah, we shouldn't speculate but I did notice that to. I mean, he allways cries during that song but he has never cried that much he could barely get a word out of his mouth:'(

Didn't know that had happened, promptly watched the video, burst into uncontrollable tears. My memory of that song as the awful Sam Bayer Iraq war video (surely the worst thing ever put out under the name Green Day) has now been well and truly replaced.
