i think closing it until further news might be a good idea really... it turning into a contest of who's the best/most intelligent/most mature fan and not much else

While I've seen my fair share of media-blasting on this subject (starting with a reporter on the news last night claiming that it just had to be drug abuse), there have also been some more light hearted responses on shows today. I really wish I could find the clips. On VH1's Morning Buzz show, they went cut to one of theie reporters who's a 'big fan' of GD. They told him that there was only 30 seconds left until commercials, he freaked, and smashed a ukelele. Ok...we all saw that coming, but it was so much better than hearing the same recycled crap that all the other shows are doing. Another was on The Talk today...they were all really supportive and didn't dwell on his problems.

That said, I hope Billie takes as much time as he needs to get better. He has an amazing support group and I wish him all the best in the coming years.

I would usually "like" a comment like this, but he has a point. The more we, as fans, keep up the proven lie that their set was cut short, we are just showing our ignorance. Everybody in here needs to realize the situation and look at it for what it is. In my opinion, the fact that their set wasn't cut short makes the whole thing look that much worse. I'm praying that Billie gets through whatever this is, but to say that he was just mad about getting cut short is failure to acknowledge the much bigger problem.

I have a different opinion. If all the typical sources say it WAS cut short, then that's the perfectly normal, healthy thing to assume. Websites and video sources all claim it so. And if anything, a big name like iheart could threaten with MAJOR lawsuits for what they did - and to me, it seems like some rep just apologized it all away with accounts of misunderstanding and excuse. Again, not claiming to know what happened - but 30 minutes for Green Day? Not probable unless whoever was doing the planning was really, really unintelligent. I hope that those of you going by some rep's announcement on their official site realize that it's just as much speculation to take that as the whole truth.

I've been glued to this thread since it was started.

It's funny how you eventually start to believe everything you read because you're somehow desperate for the "truth".

The truth = a real statement from a real source instead of all these speculations and rumors and whatever else that has been brought to the table.

This has blown out of control and I kind of wish we could just close this thread until we have the facts.

Ryan Seacrest just said that Billie hugged Kathy Griffin immediately after the performance. She's not worthy. E! News really could have made their report much more sensational and they didn't, so I was glad to see that.

I like what you say here about everything being mere material, but I disagree with closing the thread. It's still a major headline and fans are going to want to express their feelings on the matter. Let them tell you what they think. I mean, I read the announcement before I looked anything else up and I called B.S. on the statement that was released. I'm allowed to do that. And if I find out through the actual mouths of Green Day that things went down a certain way, I'll judge that like I do everything else- and hopefully there will be an avenue for it and not some closed thread. Cuz that sounds like an elitist move that a group of people make who all agree one way and then go, "well, this doesn't need to be discussed any more". WEAK SAUCE.

I don't know why whether the set was cut short or not is a such a matter of contention. When it comes down to it, he said 'fuck' a few times and destroyed his own goddamn guitar which is his property to do what he wants with. The rant really isn't that big of a deal to begin with, some of you talk about it like he stabbed a fucking kitten or something, christ. Two shits any of you should give if Clear Channel was embarrassed.

The point is that EVERY OTHER ACT except for Rhiana also only got 30. She got 45 because she was the headliner.

That made me laugh in a good way. I feel like the bigger point was made clear: no one flashes "1 minute" at Billie Joe. No one. Ever. Not even God. :D

Of course us fans should express our feelings about this matter, I just expressed some of mine. But I must admit, now when I've read your perspective of it, I might have changed my mind. You make some really good points.

My mom thinks all of this is suspicious. She said if it was up to Billie, if he had a problem then he would of gone into rehab without telling anyone. She says the label are making this into a big deal to cover their asses since they might look bad after what Billie did.

Luke and I discussed the issue at length on today's show. I did my best not to speculate too much. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Billie Joe Armstrong and the entire Green Day family. I did bring up some of the conspiracy theories, because it's difficult not to.

Do Luke and I believe it's an elaborate hoax to sell more records? No. But I had to bring up those rumors, if only so we could attempt to use logic and refute them.

Can I borrow your mom? Mine just knows it's drugs...

On the other hand, my dad is watching the news and I just heard him say 'What the hell has Billy Joel done now?!'

The thing with that is the media would still speculate and it would be worse - illness, etc.

Not always, some artists are open about the issue. Not to mention if he had gone to rehab without telling us, stuff still would have been postponed or canceled

Oh boy, I'm offline for 5 days and suddenly Billie's having meltdowns and going to rehab.

Well, I'm not entirely surprissed... he's member of a band named after marihuana after all, and through the years he's hinted here and there on different interviews about having some little issues with alcohol. It's not the end of the world though, a lot of people have problems with drug abuse, and as long as they really want to, they can get over it. And this does tend to happen a lot in the music industry, where life goes too fast and you have access to lots of money and people and places.

Anyways, I hope he gets better soon.

The only thing I'm not entirely convinced of is that his sickness in Italy had nothing to do with this. :ermm:

This thread is hilarious. People thinking 'substance abuse' means alcohol. People thinking him going into rehab means he'll be getting treatment for months (he'll be in an out, if he even goes there at all). People thinking he might have a genuine drug problem. People not realising that when celebrities are reported as checking into rehab it's almost always for publicity rather than being a true health concern. He's had a few sniffs and maybe a couple of drinks too many, woke up with a hangover and decided rehab is the answer. Lightweight.

Oh and the rant wasn't spontaneous.

My mom said nearly the same thing. I don't know what to think. As long as Billie gets better I don't really care. The iHeart Radio thing is done and over with, so I'm just hoping the best for him.
