DannyDirnt
I haven't posted on here for ages, but I just have to get it out... There's one thing that I really don't understand: WHY did they post it? I mean if he has a problem, they could have just talked him into getting help WITHOUT announcing it to the whole world! I really don't think that all the speculations about his health and his mental state do him any good in this sitaution! I can only speak for myself, but I really did not see that coming. And I take from a lot of posts I have read that most of you were also taken by surprise. Therefore, it would have been pretty easy to make up some excuse as a cover-up and give him enough time he needs to recover, without anyone knowing about it. I also feel like it was not really anyone's right to just say that he's seeking help (because I'm sure the statement didn't come directly from him), but it should have been his decission if he wants to let people know about it or not. Also considering the release of Uno!, the announcement wasn't a smart move in my opinion. No one is talking about the new album now, the news are just filled with his "drug addiction" (because that's what the media is making out of the statement). I really just don't understand it, but I whish Billie and the whole band the best! Mike and Tré are his friends and I think that if they didn't have a problem with posting it it's because they don't think Billie does either (or have asked him first). And I guess they posted this so we know what's going on and we don't freak out when we see them cancelling concerts and slowing down Green Day's activeness and think they are splitting or something. princhess
They had to cancel shows, interviews etc because of this problem, and legally and just to be decent they would have to give a valid reason. No more valid reason than the truth. They didn't really go into any great detail, so it wasn't like they were embarrassing Billie. Plus, I'd like to think the 3 guys would want to be straight with their fans instead of lying and covering up. But if someone is ill, and a show has to be cancelled, they often just say that it is due to illness. There's no need to go into detail about the illness, and I think that addiction is an illness as well. And yes, they didn't embarass Billie. And of course I don't know how he feels about it, maybe he's fine with the statement. But if I were him, I would feel violated. If he had wanted people to know, he could have said so himself on twitter or something. I just think that problems like that a very personal and should be treated with more respect than the statement showed.

American_edot
He was most definitely drunk. Was it as bad as they're making it out to be? I don't think so. We've seen Billie Joe worse. Exhibit A: The famous "She" video where he's obviously hopped up on something. I would consider that to be WAY worse than what happened Friday. Did the media go crazy after that one? Honestly, I have no idea, I wasn't paying attention back then. He may truly need help. And that's cool, all power to him. But to me, this seems like a PR stunt after a drunken performance. I could very easily be wrong about this though, I'm not one to judge. It just didn't seem that bad from an outsider's point of view. i love that she video

Then again, who knows the severity of the situation? Maybe it'll take months for him to recover. If they said they're calling off concerts due to illness or whatever, especially now they're releasing three new albums, it would lead to more speculation about Billie's health (cancer, etc.) or the band splitting up, and I don't think it would be any good either. I mean, I wish the situation would've been handled in a different way. But I'm glad they let us know what's going on. And I'm pretty sure Billie is fine with letting us know. I really don't think they would announce something like that against his will.

I really just don't understand it, but I whish Billie and the whole band the best! I understand why they posted it, because like everyone said, they needed to announce to fans why the appearances, shows, etc. were getting cancelled. It's the right, respectable thing to do for fans who have purchased tickets, and I admire the fact that even during this tough time, they care about us enough to let us know, even knowing the media shit storm that will ensue from the announcement. (Because although I, like others, had a selfish "OMG what if this affects my concert?" freak out for maybe 5.3 seconds, I realize now after the initial shock has subsided that it doesn't matter if they cancel every show just as long as he gets better.) What I don't understand, like you, is the post GD's PR guys conjured up for the Facebook page. If anything, it's partially to blame for the media's linkage of the "meltdown" --> "rehab" timeline (although it still probably would have happened regardless). Obviously this is more than just a one-night problem if he's seeking treatment. It wasn't just because of iHeart. If iHeart wasn't mentioned in the Facebook post, I think the Facebook post would have been more meaningful -- less focus on apologizing to iHeart, more focus on the real issue... making sure BJ is safe and healthy. People still would have screamed "AHH, PR STUNT!" but at least we wouldn't have GD's PR team to blame.

gerardsangel4977
Does "substance abuse" actually mean that he did drugs or could it be alcohol as well? Anyone else starting to fell like this thread needs its own FAQ? This guy makes alot of sense. Defends Billie Man, that dude's voice is really fucking with my head.... Posted by MTV http://www.mtv.com/n...ppearance.jhtml It's unclear at the moment how soon we will see Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong performing live on stage again, but as the punk trio's singer seeks help for substance abuse issues he will remain in the public eye on "The Voice." Despite checking into a rehab facility over the weekend following a guitar-smashing, expletive-filled tirade at the iHeart Radio Festival in Las Vegas,Deadline reports that Armstrong will still mentor the singers on Christina Aguilera's team on "The Voice." Armstrong's segments on the hit NBC singing competition were reportedly taped this summer, so they will not be affected by recent events. Ignore if already posted here. And those episodes can't come soon enough, imo. I know a lot of the usual Voice audience will be judging him, but it'll be a relief to see Billie being the professional that we all know he is/can be after dealing with this media clusterfuck Did any of you see Fat Mike's tweets referencing Billie? https://twitter.com/...114260854767616 https://twitter.com/...118729277517826 Fat Mike can suck my non-existent balls....I like NOFX's music, but so many of their comments just make them sound like bitter assholes trying to act like they're still piss-poor punkers, even though they're not. There's a video somewhere on the internets, for example, where one of them (I can't recall which atm) said that if they were skinny and good-looking, they'd be just as big as Green Day. What-the-fuck-ever. Agreed. I actually knew what she was referring to and answered by saying, yeah I'm fine. Had a great weekend. You? And let it all go. I know she meant well. Especially since I believe I'm the only Green Day fan in the entire office! To be fair to your friend, I have to admit, I would've really appreciated someone being that understanding towards me. You are entirely right, of course, that this situation should be between Billie and his family, but I know that I, for one, can't help feeling a bit confused and frustrated...and highly pissed off at much of the misinformation and other media bullshit that's been going around. My friends called up and asked me to hang out yesterday, and I declined, because I knew that I was in a mood over this and didn't want to be a bummer to anyone. I simply said "I'm not feeling up to going out today", which was the truth but carefully phrased because I knew they would look at me like I was nuts if I tried to explain the real reason. You may not have needed the support right then, but you're lucky to have someone be willing to understand.
