Billie getting treatment for substance abuse.

I think a statement from Billie or even a tweet about the situation will stop everyone worrying

Well maybe, but it may be hard for him. A tweet would be enough.

It's unclear at the moment how soon we will see Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong performing live on stage again, but as the punk trio's singer seeks help for substance abuse issues he will remain in the public eye on "The Voice."

Despite checking into a rehab facility over the weekend following a guitar-smashing, expletive-filled tirade at the iHeart Radio Festival in Las Vegas,Deadline reports that Armstrong will still mentor the singers on Christina Aguilera's team on "The Voice." Armstrong's segments on the hit NBC singing competition were reportedly taped this summer, so they will not be affected by recent events.

Ignore if already posted here.

I swear the media is making up 3/4 of this stuff. It's somehow evolved, mind you without anyone saying anything more than 'Billie is getting treatment for substance abuse', into 'Billie was in rehab over the weekend following a rant fuelled breakdown during a live performance'.

I hate how the media twists things. 'Seeking treatment for substance abuse' doesn't mean rehab, if the images he's posted on Instagram are anything to go by he's at home. Silly MTV.

I only have one question. Why is everyone so worries about this? I'm guessing it's only me being ignorant, but I always thought it was like going to a psychologist, but specifically so he/she helps you stop drinking that much.

Does anyone else feel that this is a publicity stunt by the record company to cover their asses?

Hear me out on this:

Billie was offended by being told to get off stage in favour of Rihanna or Usher or whatever shite they were cutting Green Day for. He has his little outburst, calling out Justin Bieber and whatever. By offending the Bieber camp and whoever else in such a public setting, the management or record company may have received complaints. With so much riding on the 3 records, they need to sell well, and Billies little outburst could have damaged their reputation in the eyes of the casual listener. So in order to cover their asses and salvage what they can in record release week, they needed to seem to be taking action to show that this is a once off. This leads to the rehab situation. This shows the public that his outburst was down to abuse, not the actual thoughts of the band.

Just read on twitter that Billie was showing signs that he needed help even before the iHeartFestival... where are people getting this information from? Sorry if someone has already mentioned this :P

It was a source from "inside the Green Day community" (not meaning GDC here.) or something like that.

You can find it approx. 5 pages back or something like that.

in some points you could be right...if billie himself doesnt post anything like 'yes, our set wasnt cut off and i decided by myself to seek a treatment' ill still have my doubts about this whole situation...if its rly that personal and serious i hope everything turns to its best..but if this is just sth forced by media/lawyers/label/... it would piss me off..

It's because if he needs help, things might be pretty bad. And if they can't help him, things get even worse. We obviously all hope that Billie gets himself sorted out very soon, but it's possible the situation could be very bad. That's why we're worried.

I think this has popped into all of our minds in one form or another. But to me if it was just a stunt, why would they be cancelling appearances? they could have easily said he went to rehab, he's all better now. The band wouldnt skip a few shows just to make the lie more convincing! besides, we all know billie was really really fucked up at that show, its clear that the outburst was in fact because of abuse. I wish you were right though, but i dont think so

This came outta nowhere. And to anybody who's said it, I doubt this is gonna be a James Hetfield thing where he's gone for 9 months. Honestly, people make a big deal outta doing drugs and stuff, but as long as he gets help and he doesn't like kill people for drug money, it's not a really big deal. All we can do is hope Billie gets better.

Not a big deal ? Really? Addiction is a massive deal! Drugs and or Alcohol addiction is extremely serious. God its annoying to see people saying its not a big deal. Plus there are still people around the net saying that its a publicity stunt, that its stupid that Warner are making him go to get treatment and that are still pissed at them getting pulled off stage early despite what has been said. In my opinion they were pulled off early but not because of running over or lack of respect but because the situation with Billie on stage was becoming extremly eratic. I believe their own management pulled them off stage because they were worried about Billie which was obvious from the reactions of Tre and Mike and Jason. Anyway the stupidity of some people on the net is mind boggling

it's always drug abuse in sweden.

Not just in Sweden. Whenever you hear a celebrity has died, the news make it sound like it was due to drugs. Fucking disgusts me!

If this is true (I don't say it is or is not, I really don't know) it would have been better to just let him do one awful show than this freak out. Damn management.

The only hint of it being false I find here is that Mike supposedly wasn't drunk, so if he smashed his bass it means the was angry too. It wouldn't make sense that he smashed his bass to support Billie if they were going to apologise. I think they just saw all the hate they were getting and decided it was better to apologise and come up with some excuse.

I just hope Billie only need some time with his family back in Oakland...getting his feet back on the ground. He traveled a lot the past weeks, perhaps he combined sleeping pills, alcohol and other stimulants to be able to hang in there...all eyes are on him. He lost his aunt also not long ago...leaving his family..could be just that it has been to much for him lately. He doesn't have to be an addict, but perhaps lived a bit hard a few weeks, and need to rest.

Don't you have very, very best friends you've known for a long time? It doesn't matter if your friend is right or not, you just support him even if you know this is false and you make a fool outta yourself.

I think he did it to support Billie. To make it seem like a scene. I don't know of cause, but I think so

I just didnt expect something like that from him anymore. I thought he would drink as everyone does. sometimes, but not addictive.

crazy !

the "Sweet 16" Lyrics now are sounding SO bittersweet ("The kids alright, alright as I'll ever be)

wow.

I hope he will get through well

He's done drink and drugs in the past. He still drinks and smokes.. I wonder why now all of a sudden it's a big issue?

I am betting the record company forced him to get help as far as I know Billie has never been to rehab before...

The only reason Mike smashed his bass was so that Billie wouldn't look like a fool, he was probably just as confused as Jason and Tre looked.
