Guest
I've been looking at at photos of Billie from the start of the promo tour to iHeart Radio. And the date he was hospitalized -> VMAs and he didn't look so well, especially in his eyes, and when you look at the iHeart Radio event, you can tell (besides the drunkness) he's really really tired. Past exhaustion. Billie deserves a long break, he's working himself overboard.
Heather.
You can believe it or not, but there's this guy on twitter who is the bass player of the band that opened for Green Day in Venezuela a couple of years ago. He is a public figure there and seems like a pretty decent guy. He posted many pictures of his band hanging out with GD backstage, drinking wine with Tre... Well the point is that he tweeted today after learning of the rehab thing that the keyboard player from Green Day (I assume he is talking about Jason Freese) told him the night of the show that Billie Joe doesn't do heavy drugs, but every once in a while, like once a month, he just "sniff whatever he founds". Well I don't know how reliable that is...
The Forgotten
^asshole^ He filters all the comments for the haters and calls Billie-Joe Billy-Joel! The guy has no idea what he's even talking about. Beliebers are insulting GD in the comments for insulting the music industry... speechless

BlackBaboon
Usher didnt go over the show started late there for the artists didnt start at the times that were posted and Green Day was only contracted to play 30 mins GD was on stage for 30 mins no sets were cut short... According to iHeart's own set times, Green Day was supposed to play 45 minutes. You can make of that what you will, but I just figured I'd point it out. spacesauce
Has anyone thought of any ideas of what WE can do for Green Day right now during this crazy time? One thing I thought of is buying two copies of UNO, to show support for the band, and then giving my second copy to someone who I know who might enjoy the album or someone who might not be able to buy one for themselves. I know for some people, buying one album can be a lot let alone two, but I thought this would be one way I could actually support the band right now in a small, but tangible way. Anybody else want to join me?

You can make of that what you will, but I just figured I'd point it out. Their set times never actually said how long they were supposed to play, just when they were supposed to start. We all just assumed that the 45 mins gap from GD to Rihanna was all for green day to play, which could've been entirely wrong, we will never know what really happened. I was at the show and everything was off bc No Doubt started 15 mins late and there were unannounced performers who were not on the list at all. BlackBaboon
Already posted this on GDC, but I thought I'd leave it here because I'm having trouble expressing my feelings on the matter: Turns out they did play the allotted time, so the apology seems more justified. The substance problem, though, I'd believe. We know Billie has always used drugs, to what extent, I'm not exactly sure, but he is forty now. If we take a look, at least at Uno!, it seems to be him going through something of a midlife crisis. Now imagine a forty year old trying to imbibe or shoot up or whatever just like when they were twenty. It doesn't typically go well. Everyone calling his search for help a 'conspiracy' really must not understand this type of thing at all. If Billie Joe decided to seek help on his own, good, I'm glad he realized he had a problem. However, if it took someone else to nudge him in the right direction, that's not a conspiracy. Rob Cavallo is the current chairman at Warner Bros. and I'm sure if the label played a part in this decision he was a major factor. I don't know a lot about Rob, but I do know he always has the band's best interest in mind. He's been with them for a long time and if he senses something is wrong, chances are, he's right. Clear Channel is powerful, but not dumb enough to block all Warner artists. It would hurt their station as much as it would hurt Warner if not more. If anything they threatened to suspend Green Day from stations for a while although they can't really control that either other than their direct affiliates. They just make suggestions elsewhere like after 9/11, their word wasn't God, but they did have sway in what remained playable.
basketcase of suburbia
The Chicago Sun Times just posted this on their website: I understand that Armstrong’s Green Day team — including bandmates Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool— were all part of an intervention to get Armstrong to agree to go to rehab to deal with his abuse of various substances, including both prescription drugs and alcohol. “Billie Joe has been a loose cannon for a long time,” said a Green Day insider. “It’s long past time when he should be getting some serious help.” They quote an anonymous person close to the band as their source: http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/zwecker/15335885-452/billie-joe-armstrong-from-green-day-finally-goes-to-rehab.html

Heres how festivals and show set time work The start time is when they get on stage if the show was on time GD would have started right at 11:05 they would end at 11:35 then the crews would have exactly 15 mins to clear the bands equipment for Rihannas equipment/set up for her 11:45 set time... Plus ive seen a scan of the contract saturday... they were shed for 30 minutes just like Usher people seem to think he went ovet he didnt the show was behind and started late
Holly
My thoughts of course go out to Billie, hopefully he'll make a swift recovery and just needs some time away from it all. It makes me feel so weird knowing he's been admitted to 'rehab' as people are reporting everywhere. It's the sorta thing that I see famous people go into that makes me automatically, and extremely ignorantly, think little of them. Completely different when it's someone that I care about. The headlines are making me sick, stuff like 'Billie Joe Armstrong finally goes into rehab'. I wanna go punch the journalists in the face.

I don't really know too much about the business of festivals at all, but if that's the case I see a larger problem with his rant as well. Sorry if I offended you or anything I just didn't understand. Obviously everyone here wants Billie to be healthy--that goes without saying. I'm trying to think of something that goes beyond "sending good thoughts." Gifting an album to someone isn't really freaking out.
captain peroxide
James Hetfield has a tattoo that says "Carpe Diem" Yeah, because it's Latin for "sieze the day." It doesn't have anything to do with Green Day.
germanfuzaloo
"About three weeks ago, Armstrong was rushed to a hospital, forcing the cancellation of a concert in Italy. At the time, the singer insisted he had lost his voice. It now appears that may have been caused by a tough night of hard-partying." Appears it was partying induced :/ http://www.suntimes....s-to-rehab.html Yeah, because it's Latin for "sieze the day." It doesn't have anything to do with Green Day. I know haha. ParadoxAndPlaid
I was gonna ask the same thing. If anything, he seemed HAPPY. I remember posting somewhere, that he seems less awkward in interviews. That he is generally happy and excited and wants to talk to interviewers. The only red flag for me was the Vegas show. Actually...the foxboro shows way back when were pretty bad lol He had some crazy antics but I had not noticed anything different until Vegas. Irving Show he seemed so happy. VMA's performance was perfect. To me at least, he has seemed more intense than happy. I thought it was weird that recent interviews had NOT been his usual, bumbling and awkward self. It was like he had become ultra focused or something. Like the Ivring show; something about the way they moved and acted then was different than a normal Green Day show. I thought it was just the size of the venue but now thinking about it maybe it was something else. I could be imagining something, it could be I'm just be uncomfortable with the new albums, but there is some feeling I've had that just has not sat well. Foxboro shows were alarming at some points, I agree, but a lot of the was just them putting on a persona for that band and openly partying. This is different. Also some people seem to be reading into this announcement as Billie having trouble with drugs; I'm not sure that is the case, and it's too soon to say (we might never know for sure, it is a private problem after all.) I think it's alcohol paired with the stress of taking on way too much work.

Mar
It just sucks at the timing of it all. This is a time for celebration with a new album coming out, and instead of spending the next week parading around their new masterpiece, the band is going to be silenced during a major time. Obviously Billie's well being trumps all else, and it's quite possible all of this is what caused the problem for him in the first place. It's just sad that of all times, this had to happen right as an album is about to be released. Hopefully he's feeling better soon and can get back to showing the world what Green Day is all about Agreed. I'm just sad on the entire band's behalf that this is going to overshadow everything. Of course, the health of the bandmembers is more important than success, but now there's just gonna be so much discussion about his health that nothing they do musically for a while will be relevant in the media or people outside of this fandom. I've been watching this band for a long time (as in I'm familiar with their behavior through the years by now) and nothing about him seemed off to me before Las Vegas. That's why it was such a shock to see him that way and why that interview before their performance stood out so damn much. Prior to that, if anything he seemed super confident and really into the whole thing.
