Billie getting treatment for substance abuse.

I felt my stomach do a flip when I heard this. I'm glad he's getting help though, and clearly wants to get better.

It's just a reminder that these guys aren't invincible. I was talking about it with my mom at dinner just now and was getting teary-eyed when it just kind of hit me that they're going to die someday. (I know this obviously isn't that severe but it's just a reminder that they're only human.)

It's easy to picture them as always being around, and when you realize that they are indeed mere mortals, it kind of puts everything in perspective.

Btw sorry if this sounds way too in depth or w/e...today's just been one of those days.

/end semi-philosophical rambling.

There's no way green day wanted to play this show. they're not like "oh my god i cant wait to play the I heart radio show!!". They were in vegas at a show they didnt want to do with people they hate. Of course they were drunk. If other shit was involved thats anyones guess. Something pissed billie off and he lost his shit. Good for him hes had his battles in the recent past but nothing has come forward lately. Seems like a mop up by the label to get on clear channels good side. fuck clear channel and i heart radio. i just saw them at the echoplex and it was awesome. they dont pull shit at shows they want to be at. cant wait for part deux when i see them at the same arena in feb!!!!!

Ok, so i just watched the vid. I really don't see him being under the influence of anything. This is just Billie pissed off (and rightly so) like he used to at concerts in the good ole days. Yeah, i'm betting Clear channel or whoever organized the festival just wasn't too happy with his dissent so it's just being wrote off as Billie being a junkie who needs help. Pffft.

Anyway, maybe Billie has got an addiction going on but tbh, i don't see any of it in that clip. Hope he won't have to be in too long.

Did you seriously watch the video?

From the first line of "American Idiot" you could tell there was something off. Even at the comments on the festival thread, everybody was saying "omg, he's drunk".

Watching the Raiders/Steelers game, and they just played Know Your Enemy on the Colisuem PA...as I'm reading the thread.

Sort of ironic. They probably play GD there (in Oakland) all the time though.

It's taken me a really long time to figure out my reply to this and I still have no idea. Dear god, this is just surreal. To think its actually an issue puts a totally different spin onto what I thought was just fun and games. I definitely saw the Iheart radio thing and didn't think twice about it and I still don't think it was 'wrong' but the fact that this news followed makes me so frustrated that I totally just... I don't know. I've literally been ignorant to anything imperfection that Billie Joe has so this is so strange, but in a way I'm glad that, you know, he's getting what he needs before anything happened. I don't know shit about what's going on or his personal life, but I'm so genuinely concerned for him, his family and the band and I'm praying for his strength, that WE ALL KNOW he has.

Dude was drunk before they came onstage. Everyone's so fucking cynical, saying this is a PR move or that the label forced him to do it. Clearly he and his family think it's become enough of a problem for him to seek help for it. I wish him the best and hope he gets back to music soon. Don't see what else there is to say.

Sometimes you can't "see" someone being under the influence. It's not always obvious. People react to drugs differently.

And as others have said, I'm sure if Billie is in rehab it's not because of one drunken night in Vegas. This was probably the icing on the cake.

I'm fucking ashamed of this fanbase right now. Oh, so your poor baby is not feeling so good, he has issues? Well good he has all these motherly fans to tell us that this statement does somehow make the outburst on friday less justified or just plain awesome, because poor Billie was not in control of his own actions, cause those bad druggies got to him - DON'T DO DRUGS KIDS. You know what? First of all, we know shit about the ligitimacy if this statement... Oh wait, no, we may do, cause any person with just a bit of experience with mind stimulating substances on their own and others bodies, and who has a knowledge of Green Day's history, would see that Billie was in fact very much in control of his own actions, and that the alcohol/"whatever" did at best just boost his courage to speak up about something that was clearly "a fucking joke", as he put it. This apology shows how much power the business has over the artists and maybe the reason why so much music is totally unpersonal and static today. Billie Joe going into rehab is probably just the label getting in legal conflict with the festival organizers, and trying to control the damage done.

But most importantly you should all consider that Billie is a fucking grown man at 40, and also an almost lifelong rockstar. He has control of his life, much more than you know. I'm getting so sick of your own contradictions. You say that you can see how Billie may very well have personal issues and that rehab is needed, because you don't know much about his private life. But at the same time you go on in phrases like "he has such a loving family, band, and community, who'll get him through this. ", but how would it get this far out, if that was then the case? I cannot understand how you claim to know him so well, and then just blindly believe in this commercial bullshit. And by that, I mean all of you going "OMG, I don't believe this, good he's getting help". Billie is fine, and I think this whole thing if fucking awesome (except that half-assed apology), cause the world needs provocative musicians again, everything has gone stale, and everything has to be so clean and polished, and it's not just the public wanting all this commercial pop-crap, it's the labels manufacturing the publics wish for it, by force-feeding it to them.

I think everyone just needs to let it go and stay out of it. Billie is in treatment - OK, got it. Great news for him and I hope he pulls through it and gets better. That's all anyone needs to say.

His voice was pretty fucked up.

It was really laughable, though. I don't know why people are treating this as if he was dying.

Heard about this at work but haven't been able to comment until now. I'm very saddened by the news but I'm happy Billie is getting help, would hate to see him go down a darker road. All the best to him on the road to recovery, I hope he knows all of his fans are fully behind him. :)

Ha, i'm a few lines into American Idiot. Yup, someone was very... loosened up indeed. :P This is gonna be a fun watch.

Yeah, he's gonna be fine.

This post is so confusing. At first you said we're not sure of what's really going on with him, and then you started acting like you're 100% sure that this is a publicity stunt. We don't know anything, but do you, really? Also, you're ashamed of Green Day fans for wishing Billie Joe good luck and saying that it's good he's seeking professional help? Seriously? Your rant doesn't even make sense.

I'm just shocked that everybody on here is shocked. It's Green Day for christs sake, of course they're on drugs.

Having said that it's a shame it seems it's gotten out of control and hopefully he'll be ok

It is a sad disappointing and upsetting, but, its good that he's getting help now. Like mentioned before, he's not invincible.

whatever the story may be, i just wish him (the band, and the families) all the best. at first, i thought the rehab story was just something management was saying to 'take back' what happened at iheartradio. but, thinking more on it, (and adi's tweet, mike's instagram, etc.) i do honestly believe he is seeking professional help. it may not be super intensive or anything like that, but professional help nonetheless. no shame though. it's hard to take that step, so kudos to him.

the iheartradio event did embarrass me, but now (after hearing all of this) i am supportive of him getting better. he's been under a shit ton of pressure and stress i bet. a human being can only take so much, and no one is perfect. x

Ha ha. Yeah, not forgetting instances like Geek Stink Breath and Brain Stew being about the negative effects of speed, that Longview's bassline was written when Mikey boy was "frying on acid" and, oh yeah, the band's name itself. lol.

Though it must have been serious enough this time around for him to go to rehab.

Pretty mindblowing news. Don't know how serious it is so it would be unhelpful to comment but the statement shouldn't have come with a tagline of "We can confirm Clear Channel didn't cut our time" that just makes it sound like a PR constructed response. Who gives a fuck about that fucking corporation, even more so if it turns out something is affecting his health. Corporations are not people, even if Mitt Romney thinks otherwise. If he has a serious problem I obviously hope he gets better. I just think the incident and subsequent reaction just seems to have come so out of the blue, even with that cancellation from last month in Italy.
