Billie getting treatment for substance abuse.

Wow, I was not expecting this when I woke up today. I'm shocked, honestly. I really, really hope Billie gets the proper help he needs and he gets better, whatever the problem actually is, even if they have to cancel tour dates.

I'm not going to jump to any crazy conclusions, I'll just wait and see if we get anymore news about it. I just hope he gets better.

To be honest I don't think he was sorry for he did. The fact that they had to get a rep to speak on behalf of the band indicates to me that this is possibly Warner's decision. Either way I really hope and pray that he and the band can recover from this.

I doubt Billie is sorry about his iHeart Radio actions, and I don't give two shits if that "apology" was a disingenuous statement from Warner. What I *do* care about is that his decision to seek treatment is genuine and coming from him, and not also something pushed on him. He can have no regrets about his actions at iHeart Radio, that's fine, as long as he actually is seeking help for a problem he's recognized in himself.

I hope you're telling them that as well as us. I've shared my mind with a few idiots already tonight.

A slightly selfish point I'm making here. One of the things that hits me hardest about this whole thing is that one of the people who have inspired me most throughout the years is (to quote Bad Religion) as infallibly human as the rest of us. Billie's far from perfect, and the fact that I thought otherwise is oh so naive on my part.

You have other reasons to admire him now is all. You can admire the courage it took for him to seek help, and have it known he's doing so.

That is what pisses me off. If anything, I'm proud of him for stepping up and realizing it's a problem. Like I said before, it takes gutts to get help. Would those people rather him continue with his reckless and unhealthy ways? Honestly, continuing in that fashion could make him end up in a body bag. Would they be "disappointed" in him then?

I agree. I'm proud of him too. It's probably something he should have done a loooooong time ago. Like, this boy could have gone to rehab at many dark points in his life, points that *hopefully* were much worse than the present. It'd be scary to think that this is rock bottom for him (I don't think it is), but I guess it's just happening at a time when he's mature enough to seek help for it.

Well, I didn't think he was on rehab 24/7

Don't wanna sound mean but maybe you're too young to see that this is serious. It's not because he just was wasted at a show. There's always much more to it. I don't wanna speculate and of course I don't know the circumstances but if he's going to rehab, than that's 24/7 and several weeks. And after that you still get treatment, you're not just fine after a couple of weeks. The only thing we can hope for for Billies sake is that he pulled the emergency brake in time and that he will get the time and space he needs.

Well Warner can't exactly make him go into treatment, can they?

I've just ranted at my friend, basically he's said he's lost all respect for Billie, I said he's only human. But if it turns out it's drugs then he said " I'm not listening to the new stuff" but if it's only alcohol it's okay...

fuck off please.

Guy can be a dick sometimes.

Also I kinda ruined the previous respect he had for them for explaining what " green day" meant and about longview....

I'd be upset if he stopped listening to them, but GD don't need fans like that

This. I would be more disappointed if he did nothing about it.

Exactly, he's doing the best thing he could possibly be doing. Maybe "disappointed" would make sense if he was just ignoring it (even though he doesn't owe any of us anything so it's not for us to be disappointed in him or otherwise anyway). But to say that when it's just been announced he's recognized he has a problem and is doing the most sensible thing possible by getting help for it? He should be nothing but applauded for that.

I hope you're telling them that as well as us. I've shared my mind with a few idiots already tonight.

Yep same. I think we're gonna see a deluge of idiocy regarding this for some time to come unfortunately.

Oh and fuck off to anyone who's "disappointed" in him. Whatever problem he has, it takes absolute balls to recognize that and willingly go to help for it.

Why would someone dissapoint him?

Jesus Christ I'm fucking shaking. A friend of mine just texted me saying "Green Day will split up, go online right now." What the fuck.

I really hope Billie is fine though. But if that's accurate, I'm proud of him for seeking professional help.

I think instead of jumping to the "he disappointed me" part, we should show support and step back, instead of trying to know every little thing, can you imagine what it was like to make the rehab thing public? give the guy a break. Mike posts one fucking picture and people think Green Day is splitting up. what the fuck.

maybe mike "signing off" was just him shutting off his phone... it does look like he's on a plane haha

I agree, he does.

I'm just waiting for some more official news now rather than jump into any conclusion.

BTW welcome to GDC :)

I knew something was wrong when I saw the iheartradio outburst. All I can say is I wish him, his family and everyone involved with Green Day the best.

Just a thought, not trying to get into anything, any way they have been busy recently with playing shows all over the place and promoting an album its busy and stressful, Billie (and the others) could have been taking some kind of drug, "Recreational" or "Prescribed medication" to help keep them going and keep their stress low etc, then possibly got out of control?

Anyways not mentioned yet don't want people to take this seriously just a thought, i think its all coming down to waiting to hear something official now.

When I first saw these news I got really scared and made up all kind of nightmare scenarios in my mind. I've known alcoholism (my mother) all my life and it's an awful thing. If Billie has a serious problem, that's awful and feel really sad for him, his family and the rest of the band and I hope he recovers well.

But then again.. when he had this "meltdown", he probably pissed a bunch of people off and maybe even broke a few laws (?).

This could be a demand from the people who owns iheart and maybe also from the record company.

Maybe he just had way to much to drink, freaked out and now he has to pay for it.. I kind of hope so.

Pissing a lot of people off, yeah, but I don't think he really broke any laws or rules. The iHeartRadio stream site did say that it was an uncensored broadcast and that viewer discretion was advised, so if there are any complaints from people who saw it, they'd be quickly shot down by the fact that iHeartRadio and Clear Channel DID warn them and whether the person decided to watch it or not was at his/her discretion. The apology could be damage control by Warner and the band, but I do think Billie is going to rehab voluntarily, not because Warner's making him go.

How is their friend an asshole? It was just a frantic text and miscommunication.
