Welp this is where my Britney Spears stanning comes in handy. I've been here, done that with the media nightmare so I ain't the least bit bothered :tired:

Well let's just hope Billie doesn't shave his head and kiss Madonna.

Seriously, why are you guys worrying about the media? What are you worried about? The fact is even if Green Day were all three of them straightedge and never sipped a beer in their life, everyone's perception is that bands do drugs.

What are you worried that headline is going to say, "Billie Joe Armstrong has similar problems to every frontman in music history"?

I'm not downplaying his problem. I sincerely hope he gets clean. But if you think a band's reputation is destroyed by them having substance abuse problems, you must not be familiar with this genre called "rock n' roll."

This.

So much.

John,

the media likes to spin shit out of control and make a situation look like its something beyond horrible.

But that's nothing new? I don't think much could tarnish Green Day's reputation. Quite honestly, they're in the one genre where substance abuse and the like are often times expected.

I'm very sorry that your dad has had problems, but I'm glad he is clean now. You can absolutely fully recover though, as my aunt has and my family is super proud of her for it. Alcohol addiction is very serious, but not impossible to beat. It affects everybody differently though, which is why I am not really "worried" about BJ as much as I am curious about what has been happening behind the scenes.

What I meant by "you can never fully recover" is that if someone puts a glass of wine in front of you after you've been clean for a while, and you drink it, you're fucked. No matter how long you've been clean for.

This sucks :(

No, it doesn't suck. Think about what might happen if he didn't get help. That would suck waaay more.

What made him decide this? We know he's always been a drinker, so I'm wondering if something more serious happened.

I'm sure the roots of it all go all the way back to his childhood.

Do you wanna be a friend of mine :(

Edit: I'm guessing it's not even near as serious as what lead to that song, but it just made me think of it and what made BJA relate to Amy.

You're kidding right? Green Day have always been a band to hit the drugs and booze hard.

What interests me is how he's going to be able to churn through a whole bunch of new material thats all about getting fucked up and partying when he's being hold not to, or if he'll slow it down at all. He must have been on this level for a while.

Yeah no, that's not what I meant. Sure they were always drinking and experimenting with drugs, but it never ended like this. Plus, I somehow thought they had it under control. Especially during the AI era, they seemed really grown up to me. They're all fathers, so I thought they were done with this shit.

this is all so sad and just before the album comes out. I thought at shepherds bush and reading he didn't look right, especially his eyes. I hope he can beat this and get back to his awesome self soon. Xx

I don't think the media is going to blow this up. It will linger temporarily. I know GD are popular...but in relation to other bigger stars such as Lady Gaga, they are small. People will probably roll their eyes and get on with reading another tabloid. It's not something surprising in this genre of music.

Wow... My mum called it after watching the iheartradio 'meltdown' (as its being called), but I didn't want it to be true.

He seems so happy in his instagram. All family pics, surfing, resting in the park ... Doesnt seem like he has a problem. Maybe label is forcing him since clear channel hate them now and own like every station. He was a drug user for a long time and never had an issues before.

This shocks me. Of course, he was a bit off Friday night, but we've seen it before. I never thought it was an actual problem. Either way, it's a good thing he's getting the help he needs. I hope he will feel better soon.

I agree. It's always great when someone is clean for x amount of years....but the risk of getting addicted again will always be one's shoulders. You can be strong and stay clean, but it doesn't go away. Addiction is a disease. It is a brain disease. It can be controlled, but never erased.

I've seen shows where he's obviously been drinking and it was sloppy but he could still perform.

That last performance was different.....something was very wrong. I didn't want to say anything but in my posts in the iheartradio thread I was debating on stating if anyone else noticed it. It wasn't "punk rock" nor was it "cool"....something was really fucking wrong and it scared me :/

I hope he gets better because that man is my hero and I hate to see him suffring :(

He seemed normal to be at shepherds bush. Not drunk or anything; but the band did have a fight before hand.

And might as well say it; makes me double think Schneider leaving.

I'm going to summarize all my posts in this thread in 3 easy points, and I'll be done with it, they are as follows:

1. I still think the iHeart rant was funny regardless of what fueled it, that does not mean I think BJ's problem is funny, but I appreciate the rant itself.

2. "Rock star has substance problem" never has been, never will be a scandal in the media (most people would say it's not even news) so stop worrying about it.

3. I wish Billie Joe Armstrong the best of luck in dealing with his addiction and am glad he has decided to.

Since when is what someone posts on instagram a surefire indicator of what their life is like? oh my god
