Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong is headed to treatment for substance abuse.

Sunday's announcement by the band's rep comes after the rock frontman had a meltdown onstage at the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas. In a clip that has gone viral, Armstrong profanely complained that the band's time was being cut short, then smashed his guitar.

In a statement to The Associated Press, the band apologized for the incident and said their set was not cut short by Clear Channel, the host of the two-day festival.

The Grammy winning band also is canceling some of its promotional appearances. It is due to release the album "Uno" on Tuesday.

Well that sucks big time. Didnt think it was serious just him having a bit to much before a show. :sorry: It did seem a bit odd though to be fair. Well just hope he gets the help he needs.

Yeah, I can't seem to find an actual link to the statement, so it's difficult to see if it's all been taken out of context. There are lots of articles out, but they're all just quoting Associated Press.

It's definitely big news if they are cancelling appearances, but - given the Instagram pictures making light of the incident - I'd be surprised if this is a full-on rehab situation. Could be a publicity move on the part of the label, I suppose?

Hmmm skeptical. On what? For what? Since when? Tested by? Confirmed by?

If their rep confirmed it its most likely true.

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a James Hetfield fiasco where he's gone for like 9 months and the band is on the brink of breaking up

Which rep? Doesn't mention any names. When was this announced? Etc...
