teresa1988
Here's my rating from the most to the least favourite: 1. Stay the night 2. Fell for you 3. Carpe Diem 4. Nuclear Family 5. Angel Blue 6. Let yourself go 7. Loss of control 8. Sweet 16 9. Troublemaker 10. Oh Love 11. Kill the DJ 12. Rusty James I guess this is it. It's really hard to pick favourites as I love the whole record! Each song has something special to me.
Ritz
I dont know why people don't like Kill The DJ. Its so awesome and different for Green Day. My friend, who is not a Green Day fan, listened to KTDJ and he was freaking stumped. he loved the different sound and when I told him most of the people in GDC didn't like that song much he went mad. He said its the most amazing and different sound that Green Day has right now. And now after listening to UNO, he's a fan of Green Day
Angelfuck.
I really, really dig the album. It feels kind of like the boys listened to my whiny complaints about "less drama opera, more fun melodic pop" after the release of 21st CB and delivered a perfect apology. Nuclear Family is one of my favorites here. I think it's the best album opener since Nice Guys Finish Last. Just so damn catchy and invigorating.Stay the Night is another great "aw, that's so sweet" song, up there with Church on Sunday and 80. Great chorus, great singing.Carpe Diem is a bit derivative. Good rocker, though.Let Yourself Go is awesome. Motivating, although the one thing annoys me is how painstakingly obvious it is that BJ's trying too hard to say "fuck".Kill the DJ is my absolute favorite Green Day song. (Dos and Tre might have something bigger?) For me, it's higher than Private Ale, or Green Day, or Westbound Sign. I just lovvveee it so much, this is what they should sound like. I hear a genius concoction of a modernized Foxboro Hot Tubs, Franz Ferdinand, The Clash in the 80's, Death from Above 1979 - all those cocky, horny, danceable pop-rock groups that fuck you in the ears while wearing Aviators and A/X. Best song on the album for me.Fell for You is one of BJ's greatest vocal performances, I think. Beautiful.Loss of Control is just dumpy. A 40-year old man sings "I'm takin' down on my enemies, cause they're all so fucking useless! A bunch of shit talkin' drama queens, and they're all filled with excuses." Nonetheless, it's another crazed rocker in the same vein of Let Yourself Go, and another favorite of mine on the album. I've been listening to it a lot. I love that chorus, it'll sound great at packed concerts.Troublemaker reminds me of OK Go for some reason. Nice little song.Angel Blue, I don't have much to say about this one. I like it.Sweet 16. This is the obligatory "13-year olds at the mall" song. It's cute. It'll grow on me and become a guilty pleasure.Rusty James, same case with most of the songs here. A catchy, listenable pop-punk-rock song, I like it.Oh Love is my least favorite. Cookie-cutter rock at its worst. Thank god it's the last song on the album. bjrules
My god I am impressed with this album. Love every song, some more than others, but all of them are great. I love 21st Century Breakdown, but this is a breath of fresh air. Here's my little track-by-track review for my first impressions. Nuclear Family: 8/10 - Whilst not my favourite, a great way to open the trilogy. The countdown at the end seems like the band's way of telling us that this is just the warm up. Also, I know they sound nothing alike, but something about this reminds me of Armatage Shanks, I have no idea why though. Stay The Night: 9.5/10 - Amazing. The band did a fantastic job at capturing the live energy of the song, and Billie's hey oh in the bridge makes me smile every time Carpe Diem: 7.5/10 - Good song, not my favourite though. The same chord progression as Before the Lobotomy annoys me slightly, but still, this is a great singalong, and should be great live. Let Yourself Go: 8/10 - The energy of this will make it great live. I think the lowlight of this is actuallly the chorus, but it is great to jump around to. Kill the DJ: 9/10 - Love this song. So good to sing and dance to, and I haven't gotten sick of it yet. The one lyric that frustrates me is "killing you to death" though. Kind of seems like Billie couldn't think of anything else to say. Fell For You: 8.5/10 - Upon my first listen, I was already singing along with this one. The chorus makes me melt, some of the lyrics are beautiful. Do have to say that a guitar solo would not have gone astray in this song though. Loss of Control: 7.5/10 - I do enjoy this song, but something keeps it from rating an 8 or above. The chorus just doesn't sit right with me for some reason. Troublemaker: 7/10 - Possibly the worst song on the album, however I still really like it. Billie's vocals are great on this one. Angel Blue: 7/10 - I like this song, but it has nothing overly memorable about it. Sweet 16: 9.5/10 - An absolute joy. Was not expecting this song to be as good as it is, but it blew me away from the first listen. Billie's vocals are so sweet, a nice one to sing along with Rusty James: 10/10 - Best track on the album. Could not rate this one more highly, Billie's voice is amazing, especially in the first verse Oh Love: 9.5/10 - I am one of the few people that genuinely loves this song. Should be great live, and the chorus is a great sing a long
Angelfuck.
I should also say that the best moments of the album are the tantalizing countdown at the end of Nuclear Family (a trilogy of three albums is about to punch you in the goddamn face so get ready), all of Kill the DJ, and "WE'RE ALL CRAZY, YOU'RE ALL CRAZY NOW!!" iltrenta
I love the fact that you can feel such different emotions while listening to this album, from "I don't give a fuck anyway" to "I'm a mess and you're a work of art". And those falsettos in Sweet 16 are so good!
