¡UNO! Album

Sanity Loan

i love the songs but the production seems thin. Sound is thin. I prefer the live versions I have heard over the album. The vocal harmonies are spot on...but the drums are mixed for booming guitars and bass, and so the rest seems a bit light.

I'll do that rating thing too. Descending order of favouriteness (?):

1. Angel Blue

2. Loss of Control

3. Troublemaker

4. Let Yourself Go

5. Kill the DJ

6. Nuclear Family

7. Carpe Diem

8. Fell For You

9. Stay the Night

10. Sweet 16

11. Oh Love

12. Rusty James

It's not that I don't like Stay the Night, Sweet 16, Oh Love and Rusty James, but I can't place them any higher than that.

Damn, I should have quoted that guy talking about the Blink threads being too cynical.

Hard not to be cynical when your band have turned into making shit music!

It's nice to be able to hold a bit of ground against other bands now that iUno! rocks everyones pants off.

well in my opinion, blink always did shit music and green day does with uno. its funny you claim you can divide music into shit and gold without giving any reasons for it. same counts for me, but i gave some reasons, if you do a little research.

this.

sometimes i think green day could release anything they want. it just has to have some melodys and everybody here will love it.

Melody and a handful of chords are pretty much the heart, soul and main attraction of all rock music that derives itself from The Ramones and their peers. They, especially Green Day, have never pretended otherwise. It simply sounding good is the core of this genre. If you're expecting the onus to be on anything but that in pop rock then yeah, you'll be disappointed and should go listen to The National or The Black Keys if it's more technical and audio depth you want. Until then it is a little short sighted criticising the band for what they are unashamedly proud of doing and what draws a great deal of the fans here. You can't be cynical about music that doesn't pretend to be better than itself.

so, here's my rating about the record

Nuclear Family: 10/10

Stay the Night: 9/10

Carpe Diem: 8/10

Let Yourself Go: 9/10

Kill the DJ: 8/10 (it don't sound that good in the middle of the others)

Fell for You: 9/10

Loss of Control: 9/10

Troublemaker: 7/10

Angel Blue: 10/10

Sweet 16: 8/10 (too sweet, too cute... if the guitar were louder and more distorter it would sound better)

Rusty James: 10/10

Oh Love: 9/10

all the songs are very good and they are getting better each time a listen to it...

also this record is what i was expecting back in 2004 when they released AI... this is just awesome

I think the lyrics on GDA are wrong for carpe diem

Life's a guess and it's running out

should be

Life's a gas and it's running out

Loving the album though. All over a solid 8/10 and only going up

The difference in sound between Nuclear Family, Kill the DJ and Sweet 16 is why I love this band. Sweet 16 sounds really like, 1960's ish. The lyrics are beautiful, actually brought a tear to my eye

I just cannot listen to only one of the songs if I want. Whenever I play any one of the songs in random, I end up listening to the whole album.

That's addiction xD

I caved and listened to it early.

Still trying to fight the urges :P but I'll probably end up listening before the release.

I got an email to say Uno is on its way from HMV...excited!

So what you are saying is that GD have delivered what they said they would, eg throw the Marshall amps out of studio and stick them on the tour bus.

Still holding out. I've waited 5 months since I first heard the news, 5 more days is easy.

Okay, I've listened the album few times so I can put my Top 12 here:

1. Rusty James - Absolutely my favorite song from this album, maybe one of the greatest Green Day songs ever, imo

2. Stay The Night - We got first version of this two years ago, still so epic

3. Fell For You - Sweet and fun power-pop tune, I loved it right away when I heard the little sneak peek on Radio 1

4. Loss Of Control - Awesome melody and kick-ass guitar solo

5. Angel Blue - Sounds like pure classic Green Day, from Dookie/Insomniac-era

6. Carpe Diem - Nothing much to say about this, I like this studio version so much that it got number 6 on my list

7. Sweet 16 - Literally SWEET song, I absolutely love the lyrics

8. Nuclear Family - Great album opener

9. Let Yourself Go - After first and second time I listened the album I thought I don't enjoy this song so much than others, but I think it works better on the album than separately

10. Oh Love - I like this song, A LOT. It may be overplayed, but still I think it's great rock-anthem and works really really great live

11. Kill The DJ - Nice dance, The Clash-kind of song. Party song!

12. Troublemaker - Absotulety great guitar solo, but I just don't like this song so much than others

Anyhow, this is my current Top 12 list of the album, there's no huge gaps between the songs, like LYG, Oh Love and Kill The DJ are in the last four songs, I think they're still really kick-ass songs, it doesn't mean that I don't like them. It's just the list from my favorite to least favorite on THIS album :) Order may change in near future, when some songs start to grow on me or I get bored on some songs.

And for me, this album is my favorite Green Day album of all time with American Idiot. Too early to say which one I like more, but I enjoy this album so much that it might be my favorite, at least in Top 3. But we're getting two more albums in 4 months, so I'm looking forward to them too.

Hell I'll do what everyone's doing

Nuclear Family - 10/10 - Awesome opening track. One of the best IMO, up there with Burnout and American Idiot. Just totally pumpass

Stay the Night - 9/10 - Another awesome track. Just love the sound on it.

Carpe Diem - 10/10 - Loved this since I heard the awful youtube recording in 2010. Studio version is amazing

Let yourself go - 8/10 One of the weaker songs on the album, but still bloody awesome

Kill the DJ - 8/10 Love the different sound on this. Pretty good, still rates lower than most

Fell for you 7/10 - Lyrics just don't do it for me. Still like it but it's probably the lowest on the album

Loss of Control - 8/10 - Love it. Love the angry sound, just great.

Troublemaker - 7/10 another low rated track, sound just doesn't work IMO and the lyrics are a bit hit and miss

Angel Blue - 8/10 Nice hark back to the old old green day sound. Awesome

Sweet 16 - 9/10 - Think it was on here, someone said this might be the new Time of your life, this is a love song, like redundant beautiful lyrics, actually got me emotional.

Rusty James - 9/10 - Badass. Just brilliant.

Oh Love - 7/10 - Not an awful song, but compared to some on the album rates relatively low

That said, 3/12 songs got a 7 and a few got an 8. that's not bad going.

Currently my 3rd favourite album. I like how airy and happy lots of the songs are, it's refreshing from AI and Breakdown. Fun Green day are back!

If we're all doing ratings...

Nuclear Family - 8.5/10

Stay the Night - 9.5/10

Carpe Diem - 8/10

Let Yourself Go - 7.5/10

Kill the DJ - 5/10 (still can't stand this one, sorry guys  )

Fell For You - 8/10

Loss of Control - 7.5/10

Troublemaker - 7/10

Angel Blue - 9/10

Sweet 16 - 6.5/10 (just can't get into this one...)

Rusty James - 9.5/10

Oh Love - 7.5/10 (I like the song, and I like it as a closer, but to me it doesn't really fit with the vibe of the rest of the album...)

My overall rating would probably be a 7.5/10, this album met my expectations but didn't blow me away. I'm hoping these albums are going to build up, so Dos will be better than Uno and Tre will just be epic as fuck.

Was really looking forward to listening to the album this morning, reminds me of collecting all their old albums forever ago and waking up early just to listen to them. :) Would like to write a review but there have been so many in this thread alone I might keep away from it.

I skip all the ratings.

:ninja:

ratings are UGH :P
